  1. This ties in with my understanding Pete. I heard that her mates at Granada used to go there a bit, basically after the pubs shut, and she tagged along once or twice. Very different to someone like PW who has collected records quietly etc. used to run soul nights and wrote articles.
  2. Hi Nick I'd agree with most of the above except to say there are some pretty strong collections amongst the non millionaire soul fans on here and beyond. But apart from that agree 100% with the sentiment. I think a lot of this tosh is fuelled by jeleousy. And by the way RICH making a comment on TV - how does that compare to people who crave Paul Anka records every week who are also on here?
  3. Re the Jackie Wilson comment, I'd dismiss it as heat of the moment live TV stuff. At least Pete knew who recorded the song. That Louis Walsh chap struggles with even Shalamar top 10 hits and Tulisa has never heard of Aretha Franklin songs when sung by the girl from Manchester (Micha B?). He doesn't try to muscle in on the scene as far as I am aware and isn't opening a soul night near you, so if he likes the music but gets it wrong sometimes, that's ok by me. And Ady his railway stuff is 'top notch' :
  4. amazing as it sounds that's probably doing a dis-service to the beach boys :
  5. Don't know what the fuss is about. He used to write a column (briefly) in B&S in the mid 70s. So he was there. Also seen him on one of them documentaries - not quite right, but I don't doubt his integrity on this issue. Plus I'd love to have his model railway of Leamington Spa or wherever it is :
  6. Jordi Mother of 3 no good I am afraid. In collecting these labels I would have to say Jakki was probably the hardest. I know of only 2-3 copies.
  7. Just like Jakki on Vibration another one that was promo'd but the All Plat labels went bust so no issues. BBP also on facebook by the way.
  8. No it's Melissa Morgan on lead vocals her first ever record. Tremendous tune I think I'll play it on Sunday on Solar.....Steve
  9. Just a note to say that I am back in the chair for Soul People on Solar Radio (website or Sky 0129) for two hours of music and festive fun. This Sunday 10 a.m. Second hour is a festive special featuring James Brown, Al Green, Womack, The Ebonys, Luther, Solomon Burke, The Emotions, Honey & Bees and a host of others all doing Xmas songs!!! No "roasting chestnuts" drivel all good tucker.
  10. I got hold of Curtis (Anderson) in 1981 - not sure how now - probably via phone book as he was a Radio DJ in Baltimore. He sent me over 2 x 12" and a whole host of Charm City 7s, biogs and photos of other artists as well as himself - all of which weren't very good. Remember posting the pic of Curtis on the cover of Blackbeat and doing a little feature on him! The record was still hot at the time (Wigan, Clifton Hall) and I have to say the "boom boom" version always had something about it Andy when you wrote to him he had probably just done "The Hardest Part" - did he send you any copies of that?
  11. Cor Blimee Guv - over £1,000 for a Motown R&W - is that a first?
  12. It's a great floater and his last 45. I read somewhere he got gangreen or something? Yellows with green writing I've always assumed to be the originals.
  13. This is correct on the day I landed in Sydney there was a newspaper article about her amazing at is may seem. She was American originally.
  14. There were three Pye acetates. I have one don't know where the other two are?
  15. I got him to write a regular column in Blackbeat in the late 70s / early 80s. Always controversial, always pushing the boundaries, Sam is a legend. end of.

  17. Different label Richard and that one has nothing to do with Lennie LaCour. Lennie Lacours label was out of Winsconsin (and later Chicago). Yes I bought this for a lot when it was the only known copy. Back then it was def the rarest on the label because no one knew it and we did do quite a bit of research. Just goes to show you......I think they may be a white band and the same dudes as one of the two bands calling themselves the Tornadoes that were on Cuca in the Mid 60s.
  18. I agree Jordi and conversley the Tornadoes was dirt cheap. We didn't even know about it until 5 years ago.
  19. Thanks. Back on air this Sunday at 4 p.m. with another two hour set.
  20. A great record and Melissa Morgan's first 45.
  21. I think they did those programming guides purely to make it easy for dumb old DJs. :
  22. Good to catch up with you Saturday Len, although I did drink too much :
  23. Didn't something similar happen at Prestatyn a couple of years back?
  24. That was much more recent wasn't it?
