  1. Pressings Bob, because it was deemed a nicer term than bootlegs.
  2. Pete I got one in a Soul Pack a few years ago, and threw it in the bin
  3. British Red and white demos - yes fantastic. There's something special about them. With a number of them you wonder why did they release them here? WHat was the market? Good case in point "The Drifter" - championed by DJ Alan Freeman no less at the time, but clearly not going to be a big seller. And yet someone at UA decided it was one that should go into the quota and get a release here (no doubt in exchange for the US releasing a record by a UK act). Even more bizarre some of those European releases - I mean 7 Souls, Joey Irving, Wil Collins and Willpower etc....anyway I digress, having a good British box is a must in my view....
  4. I'd still collect records whether there was a scene or not. ANd I am sure there are plenty of others like that. I like the "scenes" (since I am on a number of them), but to me hearing a new record that's just popped through the letterbox is always my biggest thrill. The scenes I am on are either for sharing music with others, via DJing and hearing others DJ (which you don't really need a scene for since you can MP3 tracks), and for socialisng with people who like similar music.
  5. I had a look at the bids and all 20 of them are exact amounts.....no pennies anywhere, a bit odd I'd say.
  6. Yes and I think for all his faults, this is what James Trouble tried to do in London a few years ago, which as a City has always had problems on the travelling side. Problem is I think these trendies can be a bit fickle....and can vanish as quicky as the snow melts in a Chicago suburb in January Bob....
  7. What a shame he didn't buy them with his own money.....
  8. Yes I agree Jerrio. There are still collectors out there too (not that many in the UK now) who don't go to venues but quietly buy records.
  9. No drugs there then Bob ? That's what keeps some of our dancers up and asking for more......
  10. I like it....
  11. Oh great, sweet soul at the start, now there's a thought!
  12. Good post and it's as you say the same with most forms of music. I call 'em Status Quo fans - because a) they like the same records they've always liked and b) because like most Quo fans, they have no receptors to hear new music. Younger people are as you say the lifeblood of the scene, but they are not going to come to venues where their dads and grandads are still going to - which is the problem in the UK. Same with the 'talking heads' that always get wheeled out here to reminisce about "how it used to be". Over her northern and rare soul gets confused which is not surprising as rare soul fans do like northern by and large. Long live rare soul!
  13. Just different pressings, nothing to worry about. STeve
  14. You can hear Al Boyd of the Imperial Wonders tell the story here of how they went over to LA etc....and became another version of The Younghearts https://www.mixcloud....h-al-boyd-2002/
  15. Not "Blue Jean baby" by Lonette (McKee) ? If so it's an unissued MS side which Butch has.
  16. I agree. That's what makes this thing of ours such an interesting thing to do, there's always another record out there, it never ends.
  17. If there was anything decent in there surely the seller would have named a few as 'teasers' to attract bids.
  18. Everyone wants to be a DJ Bob, most don't make money although some of the mega weekenders do. For some people yes, exactly the same as the Teddy Boys and Rock and Roll etc. And yes a lot of people too old to travel long distances :
  19. Just noticed this Matt, def. v rare. Even the discos list the artist incorrectly....Steve
  20. Cheers will do. Steve
  21. Indeed, not quite heart failure Ian but a large "what???" over my morning tea....
  22. Didn't see it but like you already have the Velma Perkins....Steve
