  1. Thanks for reminding me of it, gonna dig out my copy....
  2. Good idea man! Would need to also play album tracks for that one since there's not enough 45s for two hours
  3. Blimee shocked. Richard S once told me I need to get along there, and I never did!
  4. Rob here is a link..... Enjoy! Steve https://www.mixcloud.com/steve-guarnori/soul-people-plays-chess-19th-feb-2012/
  5. It's not a bootleg it's a 2nd issue put out to meet northern demand in 1975. Think the Fidels or something similar suffered a similar fate.
  6. Howdee partner, and welcome to the C&W Hoe-down forum.: Listen up, no one said that Vickie Baines was a C&W record, it's a Niter sound, we only mentioned that it was found in a Hillbilly warehouse in Allentown and then all of a sudden all these gringos started scaring the horses. Yee-haw! Ride safely now.
  7. Steve G posted a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
Laso - the first album and Laso Square was a biggie for Colin Curtis.
  8. I know just playing along with Tezza a bit. I still have the 45 Ted sold me.
  9. Mentioning the Impressions one of their later ones was held back following complaints from Motown. I know which one it was but it is stored in a difficult part of my brain to access, and I cannot be bothered to try and retrieve it at the moment..... My nomination: Dennis Edwards "I didn't have to but I did"
  10. Hill Billy Soul. Jed Clampett on banjo!
  11. Thanks Steve, that's the one. Ah yes - going senile with the Karen Young "Hot shot" thing.....
  12. The "Hot Shot" one I thought? I know Vicki was also someone else in the 70s.
  13. Joan, it's brill. John A originally found it in a hillbilly place in Allentown Pa. back in the 70s. Does make you wander what audience it was originally aimed for, but wasn't Vicki Baines someone else, Karen Young or something?
  14. A certain person on here also bought your demo in the late 90s......
  15. A very diplomatic answer Joan. You bet Mick is going to get some tickling over this......in fact it's already started
  16. Actually Sean, this period in time is properly documented. An old copy of Blackbeat reveals that Norman Connors was played first by 'Arry 'Ardbottom at the Ferrett & Pidgeon allnighter a full 2 weeks before you spun it mate

  18. Mick still playing that dodgy carver then?
  19. I do prefer this to his other one.
  20. What is it with this record? 4 versions of it, all collectable......
  21. Nice one! And not a backflip in sight
  22. Good. It's a top tune.....
  23. Am guesting on Soul People this sunday on www.solarradio.com Sky 0129 from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. Hope you can catch the show. As posted elsewhere this time I am doing something a bit different - playing two hours of records on the Chess label from the later "dark" years of the Chess empire. In the required Soul People style this will be a mix of crossover, funky, deep, and steppers. All off of 45s, and all on Chess. Very few are really rare and most of these are available with a bit of searching., even though a number are quite obscure. The years feratured are not the widely acclaimed classic soul years for Chess (OK we all know the TNJs, Vibrations and Free Spirit) but features music from 68 onwards and after the main acts started drifting away from the label. It encompasses the years when Chess was a shell company under GRT, buying in mostly songs from other Cities such as DC, NY and SF. Promise some interesting stuff and I'll garnish it all with what I hope you'll find is some interesting info on some of these obscurer names under the Chess logo.
  24. Yes it's one I got as a new release from the Bowl (and then cracked). Think it was about £8 at the time which implied quantity was limited. Incidentally I got my second (replacement) copy some years later that is also now cracked......Old spin for SouL Sam etc.
  25. Etta James only available on Kent CD. They are thinking of putting it out on 7. Does anyone know anything about Ilana - like who was she? Van McCoy production as I recall. So NY, Philly?
