  1. This is quite common at venues in the south mate. Especially if you're not playing bog standard 500 oldies. One venue I went to had three non DJ people, and being one of the three I spoke to the other couple and turns out the husband was a DJ too. So technically only one non DJ amongst the public attendees.
  2. A few records I am looking for my collection….any help with these appreciated via PM. Thank you. 1) Althea Spencer - Bitter tears (AV) (her second one) 2) Billy Stewart - Tell it like it is / My sweet Senorita (Chess) 3) Imperial Wonders - Thats alright (Day Wood) 4) Imperial Wonders Mean ole Mis Treater (Day Wood) 5) The Kaldirons - To love someone (Twinight) 6) Perfections - Why do you want to make me sad (Twinight) 7) Harmonica George - You make me tick (Twinight) 8) Syl Johnson - Send me some lovin (Twinight) 9) The Versatones - Rollin rollin (Magic City) 10) Sam Moore - Give you plenty lovin’ (Atlantic) 11) The Webs - Keep your love strong (Atlantic) 12) Dynamic Concepts - Now that you’ve left me / Funky chicken ATB Steve
  3. Florian Taylor too (Chess / Cadet).
  4. One last year c £150 -200 I think. Its a pretty rare Stan Watson label and one that doesn't show up often. Odd ball but at the same time is sort of charming Philly.
  5. Great information as always. Re: the Toppiks, I had a note on my copy to say they were an early incarnation of Blue Magic. The above notes correct that note as it was just one singer from the Toppiks who joined the group who became Blue Magic. Thank you for the excellent in depth info, which is always fascinating and very informative.
  6. Hi Marco, you really don't need to justify yourself to a couple of bitter old "keyboard warriors" with their half baked theories and obscured memories of "how it was" for them. Hope all is well with you and E.
  7. "Killer Joe" Ady? Someone is having a giraffe.
  8. Ten of the best you say? At least three of them were candidates for ten of the worst.
  9. The Fascinations released on Mayfield in 1971? Does that make my UK Stateside and Sue copies rare then, since they were released here before the record actually came out? Sorry thought it was just another poor write up, how anyone can cite "Afternoon of the Rhino" in an all time Top 10 beggars belief. has anyone actually played it out since 1975?
  10. Records appear to just disappear.
  11. You are right there, or at least there were. I remember John A telling me he filled his holdall with as many copies as he could from the warehouse when he saw the stock in there.
  12. Dekka you are reading way too much into the second sentence. I wouldn't go to a venue if I didn't enjoy it.
  13. Used to post playlists, stopped doing it a few years ago, agree with Dave's sentiments above. These days the venues I do DJ at, just turn up, play records, and go home at the end of the evening.
  14. Its an acquired taste Paul. The disjointed-ness is part of the charm. Great New Orleans, but if we all liked the same thing it would be boring.
  15. Yup 507 a boot. "I peeped your hole card" here Paul Capon, got it from Soul Sam in the 90s.
  16. I suspect someone has told them that they are complicit in encouraging the sale of illegal copies or something like that, hence the clampdown.
  17. What is the story on the Ronnie Dyson mark, mis press of what?
  18. real collectors don't buy bootlegs.
  19. We're all only guessing, but the 100,000 presumably comes from John, but I have also heard he has 39,000+ customers on his database alone. But that will include people no longer active I would have thought, and of course the many casuals. There are plenty also suffering from with retinovinyl disease (the types who slowly paw through every record box, looking intensively at each record but rarely if ever buying anything). Hard core collectors that buy regularly / semi regularly well under 10,000 WW is my guess. But it is just that a guess.
  20. Got mine early 90s and it was more than £50 back then LOL.
  21. An excellent release. Well done SJ.
  22. I believe they were all 'bought in' efforts, there is a wide variety of writers and producers.
  23. John, Look at 45cat if you don't believe me.....https://www.45cat.com/label/mr-g Pop outnumbers soul easily on this label. It was a pop label.
