  1. Yes good points Ged, I've ben hassled for a number of records that people have found on old internet playlists. Also as others have said the playlist varies depending on the gig. Yes but also times in the 70s / 80s when you heard the same records three / four times a night -Wigan being a case in point. DJ oneupmanship stuff. Remember a couple of years ago a niter close to both our hearts when a famous DJ asked to go on early at a gig - real reason was so he could play his newly acquired copy of Salt & Pepper before the DJ that originally broke it was on. Fun and games eh?
  2. A lot of rare tunes not on youtube, wouldn't it be totally boring if they all were
  3. Sadly John, if you came up from London on the train that would be a very short lived thread, since there was nowhere open at the station, the train buffet was invariably closed etc. and the best you could do was jump off at Crewe and try and get one, and back on the train before it departed - way too risky! Back to playlists then.....
  4. That's a fair point, sometimes it does cause you to go and look out something on yer racks that you'd filed away, a plus side to playlists I'd agree. But we talk about those types of tracks all the time in here...plenty of things people have mentioned that I've gone and pulled out and thought "Yeah, cool". Doesn't need a venue playlist to do it though does it? I seem to recall we had a 'Top Tips for now' thread running to several pages where everyone (nearly everyone ) posted their tips, oh.....apart from the actual thread starter, who as I recall didn't post any of his own tips :g: !!
  5. What does this mean Nev? To be candid I wouldn't just get in a car and go somewhere without checking it out thoroughly first, talking to mates, asking around, is it somewhere I'll like etc. What's the type of sound played? What's the vibe like? Yes OVO or Bootleg Billy's playing crappy sounding versions of the Salvadores?. 30 pot belied old geezers sitting around looking miserable at a pint glass v kick ass atmosphere etc. Do they dance? Do they just want oldies? What type of sound goes down? Fast / mid / 60s only / modun etc etc. I don't understand this obsession with seeing event playlists, if you don't know the titles in the first place posting up the title ain't gonna help you except as an internet searchers tool for trying to get further copies of obscure / unknown titles to "sell on". If you are trying to get DJ bookings it's a good way of showing your wares I guess. But if you are not to fussed about that, why do it?
  6. I think all copies are a bit like that condition wise Nev. Great sound always gets people asking about it.
  7. Yes there is def. an element of truth in that.
  8. Rhonda Thomas I believe? An Atlantean. Still no word on Ilana though.
  9. I don't know Pete, specialist markets / releases and all that. Yes Kim was a couple of years older than me and one of the guys that got me into it all in the first place....
  10. Rhonda also went back to Stax as a solo artist in the late 70s... Mentioning Volt - what about Ilana?
  11. Indeed you'll never get me to find a version of it I actually like Incidentally she told me that in 78, not now.....we were part of the Kent northern gang at the time
  12. Some of my non soul mates have been popping their clogs for years. However a mix of drugs, bad diet, excessive booze, unbalanced sleep, and a lack of exercise save for a frantic round on the dance floor like a teenager again will take their toll on some.
  13. In terms of rarity I remember when UA put out the Bobby Goldsboro maxi single c 1978, Jo Wallace was pretty close to the guy responsible for it. She told me they only did 35 demo copies, so for that reason I made sure I got one . So for a 70s pressing the demos must be quite rare, but as I say, Bobby Goldsboro
  14. From the days of Snoopy Dean et al Modern records were always played at Wigan and later Stafford with Richard, Dave and Robin. At Wigan things like Lovelites, Flaming Emeralds, Silvetti, Eddie Holman (76,77) etc. and later the 79 invasion of things like Bobby Thurston, Roy Dawson etc. so don't think it's something that you can put into tight compartments.
  15. Bull Moose Jackson - comedy lyrics, a firm favourite with the old 6Ts crowd in London. I laugh at all these old chiches, the meaning of the word "Rock" as used in song titles, references to "Back doors", "Bow legged women" "Licking sticks" and the like. But back to the topic starters notion, I am sure plenty of two step will be up your street. Already seen mention for things like Edee Leatherwood "Make it last" and who could forget Starvue "Body fusion" a cheapie that was mass imported.
  16. The Tearra "just loving you" was East Coast - Manny Campbell. And Tearra was a female she did other stuff as well (Teah Louise I believe).
  17. Aren't there also a couple of rare TMG's - withdrawn ones. Masai "Across the tracks" and a few other weird ones on Mojo too I think.
  18. Good points Marc.
  19. Yes I have an issue of this too so can confirm.
  20. separate thread running. It's a belgium boot.
  21. Ahem....
  22. I think the inclusion of "Sad Girl" dates it to 79? Steve
  23. Yes and it's Monday morning and wet Roburt!
  24. Some nice stuff there. Never saw one of those drinks discount vouchers before.
