  1. Hi Benji, I think there is an issue knocking about. Label went bust of course so it never got out properly but I am sure someone (Adam possibly) had an issue.
  2. And that's the tragedy. A lot of em are pretty good records, but honestly I am so friggin bored of hearing them. I've got virtually all of them, and I NEVER play them. They just sit there doing nothing. Frankly if you know all the words to a song, it's time to move on to another one. This is a good point. Those that put WC on a pedestal as the "ultimate of ultimates" need to keep this in mind. There was a clamour to play new stuff, and a few DJs aside (Richard etc.) most others couldn't keep up with the frequency. But it was a money spinner and a good "thang" for the guys running (and coining) it. Most of us were just kids who were caught up in the atmosphere / vibe, "KTF" "We're not divvies" etc. I am even pretty sure I danced to Helen Shapiro and Burning Bush - yikes! Until I realised.....
  3. Tom Moulton's first production he says.
  4. Interestingly I've never heard the B side. The copies I junked in london in the early 80s for 10p were demos with "AICD" on both sides.
  5. ....and there was me about to offer you $5 to take it off your hands for curiousity sake. We could always ask Chuck if he knows of it. Maybe it was just a novelty thing that was given out at an event or something? Done quite a bit of research on Al Browne, which is why I made the connection, but have to say I had never heard of this one before. Seems from what I can make out there was a reasonable independent record scene in Brooklyn which is odd since it's so close to Manhattan. You'd be forgiven for thinking there would be nothing there record wise. Steve
  6. Shrine - the "chequebook collectors" dream A few goodies, backed with quite a lot of mediocrity.
  7. Classic detroit double sider...
  8. Dean Parrish? Not a hint of soul? Great singer. Helen Shapiro is a good singer too (non soul). The man with the missing Constanant - Paul (W)Anka is I think the example of a soul-less piece of dross that you're looking for. Every one of his so called "northern" records are "charming pop" turnips. Followed by Bobby Goldsboro - more soul in a 10p piece than in that old cowboy .
  9. Avoid the Holloway Road I'd say unless someone can confirm it's been re-gentrified. One of the reasons (only one mind!) that The Rocket allnighters stuttered attendance wise was that on the first night about 20 people got their cars done. All these out of town soul heads parked up in the bus lane, and lo and behold a few hours later, broken windows, radios gone etc etc. Not nice. Luckily I parked round the back
  10. Read the thread Denbo, what did yer last servant die of
  11. F*ckin ell mate if Chuck Jackson was dead, he'd be turning in his grave at this pile of steaming horse shit Fortunately Chuck is still very much with us.... What is interesting about this record though is the Al Browne connection. Since he was responsible for the first ever record on Wand and the second ever record on Scepter a year before. His Brooklyn records (of which there are 3 x CDs dedicated) were usually recorded in the back of a record shop and range between awful, to pretty good. So I wonder why he put out a cover version of Chuck's big hit? I think he also produced / released Ray Dahrouge's first ever 45 (the doo-wop one). Trivia. It's an interesting record, but in terms of 'clearing a room' on about the same level as a 'rotting cabbage' fart that some people seem more than capable of producing. Combine the two - bad record and bad fart, and your room will surely be clear
  12. 2 x Mad Lads. I think Tony Rounce also thought he had a R&W Charmels. Presumably "Please Uncle Sam"? See you tomorrow.
  13. So have we established whether there are more than 2 of the red US ones, beyond the two we've already identified? To be honest personally am more interested in the red US presses rather than Jamaica, Bahamas, Trinidad or anywhere else.
  14. Yes maybe picture it as a Butch cover up exclusive rocking niters to a full floor, and people would see it in a better light methinks.
  15. Awful to my ears, but some people think it's the epitome of northern soul. One from me "Put me in your pocket" - never understood it, just a clink clink beat and a poor vocalist to me.
  16. Good pop....bad pop? I don't know...
  17. Well he certainly can't sing that's for sure. i could do a better job. In it's day a very rude comedy record, full of double entendres, so I find it quite amusing. Wouldn't like to hear it out now though...
  18. Yes Jordi. Got it off of Butch I think. Steve
  19. Yup I think I got all of those 45s. Thanks for clarifying. Steve
  20. Bob, Do you know which members of EW&F were in the Salty Peppers on Capitol? It often gets mentioned as EW&F's first record.....not sure if it's all of em or just some of em? Steve
  21. Beverley Ann = Beverly Bremmers, still garbage though
