  1. Jees Russ, this list of names is now longer than the jobs queue in Greece Nice try though! Before all the "mates mates" come on with their lists of "buddies" which I am sure will be what happens  Regarding Richard, if he's making a comeback he'll do well in my opinion. But a word of caution - the number of people who want to hear new material is limited I am sorry to say, no matter who spins it, and the upfront / rare scene today barely supports viable allnighters anymore. I have no doubt Richard would draw in a crowd for whoever booked him; rather like James Bond his reputation preceeds him - and for all the right reasons! However any swell in numbers might well be people wanting him to play "Wigan oldies", "I'm on my way" etc. ? Food for thought....
  2. Oh right, we were talking about it a while ago. I think someone questioned whether it existed. Not you then....As I don't have it, what is it like? Steve
  3. Yes there is wrong info on the internet about this 45 (what a surprise!) - usual guesswork 'fare' Thanks Bob I shall check that later, I wrote to the engineer and he couldn't remember the session at all. And in the spirit of trading info - the Reflections definately did sign for Polydor, so whether their 45 came out or not I don't know, but it isn't just a discographers mistake as may have been suspected. Nice PS release in France as per usual for Sweet Music! Thanks for the replies. Steve
  4. Does anyone know who the three birds in the group "Sweet Music" were? I think it's them that re-recorded as Sweet Life on West End, although I haven't checked that yet. Steve
  5. Now you've done it Kegsy. Expect to hear an "exclusive" Carstairs instrumental played at a venue near you, followed by a "legitimate issue" next year.

Butch and Lars have this. Great atmospheric 70's tune, there's a long waiting list for an original.

Paul, I've asked them if they have any planned recordings..... Will let you know if / when I hear back. Steve
  8. Good I am pleased to hear it. Richard has always had impeccable taste.
  9. Ha ha! Record collecting never stops Mark.
  10. Seem to be getting through here. Had 22 parcels at the PO on Saturday. Usually 1-2 weeks. That being said I'd better double check to see if any haven't arrived....Steve
  11. You should have heard Dave Godin talking about them! He went to school with a couple of them, the mere mention of their names in earshot would send him off like a fire cracker! I thought Dave was usually a good judge of character.
  12. These records have been out a long time. They picked up an unissued Sweet Inspirations which isn't a bad pair of sides (one quite recent), Eddie Billups, and a couple of unissued sides by the bird that did "Gangster Boy" (the old "Dentist" spin Wanda McDaniels). I picked them all up (apart from King Moses which I already had) but was never really sure how legit they were.
  13. Yes I do realise that Bob. But it is a useful comparrison. I mean she still has to eat, sleep and get here and back. STeve
  14. Last year she was part of "giants of rare groove" with Leroy H and Nat 4 at 02. I don't think £20 /£22 for a live act is "fleecing fans" in this day and age in London Chalky. The £4 admin charges for the ticket agency is however "taking da piss". The venue has a max cap of 500 or so, and is unlikely to sell out unless there are others on (which there may be?). Lee Fields didn't sell out there, and he has a young funky fan base. Also you should see how much the rock / pop 'munters' willingly shell out for live concerts. There's a shed load of costs and risk associated with bringing Ms. Mason and her frocks over. I have not seen her recently so don't know what she'll do, or how good her voice remains, but she's certainly a "name" to be reckoned with amongst the soul 'hoy-palloy'. Maybe we are spoilt from the live acts we see at weekenders if we think £22 is a lot for a live performance. When we were in Chicago last year we nearly went to see a contemporary R&B / soul act (Eric Benet). Equiv of £60 for a seat about a quarter of a mile from the stage just for comparrison....Steve
  15. Venue is pretty good actually, saw Lee Fields there, 5 mins from highbury & Islington station. Accoustics fine. Will go to this "interesting minor soul performer" (where does it say that?) for sure.
  16. Hi Bob, yes we discussed the Red Star release on here about 5 years ago I think, there's another thread somewhere....
  17. Interesting theory. I have all the records but not the facts behind the label. Always assumed it was set up as a Philly label (based on 45s like Imperial C's, Ernestine Eady, Enamons, Herb Ward, Vicky Baines, Tony Talent's group on the label for example). I don't think it set up to release stuff from Miami, but clearly there was some tie up. Steve.
  18. I always had a feeling when I collected the Phil La of SOul label that the number of Florida releases was as a result of a Clarence Reid connection? Also a few of them weren't really Fl records like Benny gordon "Give a damn", which did come out on a fl label but was originally on a SC and NY label deal that Phil -la picked up.
  19. I Don't know about Jocko being the link. Know he had shows in NY and Philly, didn't realise he went as far south as Florida. Steve

    Blimee, excellent.
  22. Blimee talk about digging up the corpse of a thread Remind me what was all this about again? Mr & Mrs Baloney hopelessly out of their depth trying to book a live act or something? Or was it Patio Grading? :
  23. The price is amazing...
  24. Or signed by the artist "To Sally" of whatever.
  25. Except when it comes to the "budgets" to pay the Directors.....
