  1. It's light entertainment, not a scientific history. Enjoy it for what it is. Sunday evening TV. The story will either be good or not good. I am not going to be dissecting how well or not they portray the scene. The sort of thing that should be upsetting people is when TV do something like a Burt Bacharach special and find the worst possible versions of many of his songs.
  2. Yes no one has ever seen a Jesse Fisher album, it would be great if they put it out.
  3. Nice one, was listening to your Chuck Jackson interview the other night
  4. Right but it's a bootleg. Just as long as you know.
  5. Probably just a rip off version of the Traits then. The Traits were from Houston and did Harlem Shuffle after they fell out with Roy Head.
  6. Both Inclinations 45s are fabulous! PS: Thanks for the clarification Tony.
  7. Joey dee's an interesting one, I presume Marvin Schlachter had signed him to Janus, after his limited run out at Scepter in the early 60s with the Peppermint Twisters thing. Assume it's the same fella - very different style though.
  8. Just seen a trailer for the new series - apparently an ep. with a Northern Soul 'theme'. Wonder how they'll cover it
  9. It's v hit and miss I find. I just got one of them grey cards through the door, usually I buy low value items anyway and don't get cards. i am currently filling in the gaps in my Scepter collection - very tedious!
  10. Just found a Junior label listing that puts the first one as 66 and the second one as 67. That makes more sense I think? But the Junior numbering and release dates are a bit confusing - some Philly afficianado needs to sort it out
  11. Yes Pete, Dave Rimmer site for one puts it as 64 and a number of others do as well. I have serious doubts that it would have been before Lorraine's came out which I believe was early 67.
  12. I might be being a bit slow here, or might have forgotten..... But why does everyone say "I can't change" by Yvonne Baker was a 1964 release, when Lorraine Chandler who did the original didn't get it released on RCA until early 67? Surely that puts the Junior release out to 67 as well I would have thought or am I missing something? STeve
  13. Ok thanks to nsoul2 for posting the old feature and the stuff I dug out earlier - including her old interview - same Patti Jo then.
  14. I posted an article about her on here, it should be in the archives. It was a feature she did in 'Black Stars' and Bob - pix of her in Chicago Roburt must admit that "Swinger" dating bar caption you've posted doesn't like the sort of place to take yer missus What year is the Barry Smith article please?
  15. Good job it was a dub. Think a polystyrene orig of Duke Browner would be starting to hiss by now the number of plays / takes. Bags on the stage is a good point, but the scenes I saw were panning from the back of the hall to the front, and the stage wasn't in shot. Long haired DJ very Curtis / Roberts we thought. DJs didn't say too much beyond the record and titles and what they did say was pretty muffled at Wigan, and recall Richard occasionally did silly announcements always remember "Lee Moore & The Resourceful Ones and Your love....Keep me....Pissin". The clapping after individual records is an interesting one, so didn't happen in 74 then? I didn't go that early but did go before I remember clapping each record starting c 77 by the sounds of it. We were also debating if DJs were clapped at the end of sets, not sure that they always were and we thought it depended on the hand over and what the next DJ on said (and whether he got on with the bloke he was following). Liked the table and chairs laid out, at the back, as close to Wigan table and chairs as you'll get. Not too fussed about the balcony not being the same, as I don't think that'll show too much on the final edit.
  16. Thought it was really good Saturday. Elaine is working hard to capture the real spirit of the 70s in the film and the shots we saw certainly did that. The dancers are excellent. The balcony at Wigan tended to be either "tourists", people asleep or people watching the dancers below.I am sure there was some movement but it wasn't really full of people jiving about like a gospel choir in full flow either.... The thing is you never saw someone over about 25 at Wigan (apart from Brian Rae maybe), so why some 50 somethings thought they'd be in it was funny I must say. We were debating when clapping at the end of records really came in - 78 maybe? Anyway looking really good. Steve
  17. Just to clarify the "slow version" of the Promatics is a fine crossover record with a nice heavy backbeat booming along in the style of groups like New York City / Spinners etc. It's not really slow, more midpace, just in case anyone things it's like a ballad or something....Steve
  18. "At the Motel" an old Yarmouth "Soul Essence" spin from quite a few years ago.
  19. Not surprised you got people like Colin and Richard playing it back in the day - fabulous piece of soul from Mr Phil Perry.
  20. Yes that's it Tony, thanks. I asked him to let me know when he wanted to sell it, but he forgot and I've lost track of where it is now Never mind it would probably have been v expensive. Cheers steve
  21. I believe it was Curtis who played this first at The Mecca.
  22. There's also that unissued Phil la thing Sam had which was a version of a Barbara Lynn song if I recall.
  23. Thanks Ian that'll be great. Steve
  24. Yes it is Flip Wilson - six track 7". On Thunder.Lightening .Rain I reckon this was planned as a release at the same time as Benny Gordon (which was issued next number) and who was touring in Florida (and released the same title of his Phil La 45 there on a local label just before it came out on Phil La). He probably recommended the group to Phil La. at the time. I don't think Phil la ever pressed it up though. Steve
