  1. Hi Andy, Those two names loads of them on Facebook and can't see some of them due to their privacy settings. So can't contact them. Nothing back from Pat yet either. Times like this remind me how much we lost when we lost Edwin. Steve
  2. Quite a bit of Scepter was on vinyl, it depended on which pressing plant they used. Also have a few Wands on vinyl. The NY stuff (including Garrison presses) was mostly styrene. I think when they got stuff pressed elsewhere - like down south - is when you tended to see the vinyl. The Humphrey Stomp above is an issue, the stars just there too highlight the A side, not indicative of a demo.
  3. Yep interesting. I didn't think the interview was that good, but that is down to the interviewer / editor. It is one heck of a collection of albums that's for sure, and as a label collector myself I know what it's like to try and get everything on a particular label including the dross. I think he's done well and should be proud of his achievement. I do wonder how much it costs him to ship this stuff about, both in financial terms and strained muscles.....

    Working OK now.....
  5. He has "Spend some time" the 7". As far as I know he doesn't carry 12s that often these days.

Yes indeed Chalky, from my perspective.
  7. No it's essentially "Spend some time" beefed up a bit.....I prefer the 12!
  8. Right so Humphrey stomp was pressed at least three times in the 60s and issues are two a penny. Beyond that I have seen an issue of Alan Bruce, and maybe a green issue of Honey Bees (I might have dreamt that!). All were styrene as far as I know, Scepter's favourite type of product for singles.... Steve
  9. Pat doesn't know either although she is making enquiries......Gawd what a mystery. Steve

    What an excellent post!

Hi Dave, yes, but not majoring on them. So will mention some of the licensing deals and countries. Steve.

Hi, I am 72,000 words into The Scepter Wand story so far and still on 1966 (!).....This is covering all aspects of the labels....not just soul, but of course will include some difinitive detail on the soul side of things......I expect to have first draft finished by March...so hopefully out in good time for Xmas 2013....Steve
  13. sorry, a few of us thought your comment "rec. nyc" meant recorded there rather than released on a NY label. Ok. cool.
  14. Yes this is all consistent with what I have read Robb.
  15. OK so no definite answers yet. We know the Garrison 45 is Detroit (not NY Marc). It's either The Andantes with a different lead or some Edwin Starr touring singers (my alternative suggestion) - Don Mancha the other writer was actually Edwin's trip manager at the time....but we're still waiting some replies. So we don't know for sure yet. Roburt - The Honey Bees came out in Feb / March 67 time. Garrison was over by May 67. I don't know what Flo Mar has to do with it, since that's just Scepter's publishing arm, and appeared on most Scepter distributed 45s at the time....they just put that on as many records as they could. Onwards and upwards....

Jerry got a feeling the Jamaicans were into it pretty early on....that may have prompted the thought of an Atlantic reissue in 68. We can't measure everything by what was or wasn't played at "The Wheel"...that wasn't the only gig in town....
  17. I am also sure I confirmed that he was different at the time of Blackbeat. I must have rung him or something when he was at Beverly Glen. That's the only way I would know he was different. Or maybe Stuart Cosgrove did. I can't remember now. Of course at the time all seemed well, and no one knew of the rip offs to follow. Beverly Glen was a top label at the time as far as we were concerned.
  18. Yes Sean is right, different Otis Smiths.....A common name....
  19. He was the BOSS in New York. Everyone rates him....it's him on The Constellations records btw - amongst tons of others....
  20. Played at Wigan in 76? ROFL. :
  21. Thanks Andy. No word from Pat yet. Steve
  22. Indeed, it's on Jimmy's own website. which is pretty good I agree...Jimmy was the only artist to sign a recording deal with the label, the rest were brought in masters.....Steve
  23. I am sure I read it on Soulful Detroit Flynny... Two Garrisons in fact NY area records, Jimmy Raye and Alan Bruce.
  24. Right but that's not surprising since the mission statement of Pete Garris was to "bring in new R&B masters from around the country". Of all Garrisons releases only one was truly from the NY area.
  25. Bargain. Great 70s dancer and the best of their two on the label. Someone snap it up.
