  1. "New discoveries".....are they on a par with Merv Griffin or whatever? "Dee-jaying in their own way".....how is that with a 6 inch needle for their 78's? No wonder the BBC love them.....fits in with all their COSTUME DRAMAS! Pant(omime) season all year round now!
  2. Stan Ogden met Hilda at the Wheel in his vest;
  3. I seemed to remember that The Javells was a Kev Roberts cover up.....although he had gone from Wigan by autumn of '74. It was played around the time that "Sea Cruise"; "Panic"; "Surrounded By A Ray Of Sunshine"; "Take A Letter Maria" etc: I remember being at a mates house and he had just got it from Record Corner in Balham....Nosmo King on Pye.....soon after it was reissued along with The Playthings cover of Samantha Jones. It was of the time.....and yes, it was massive. Anyway, that's how I recall it; but it was 40 years ago!
  4. Lou Pride may still be rare, whilst Tomangoes and George Blackwell are not show stoppers....my point is that the majority of the "golden era" have had it. In a few years time the arse will have dropped out of that market.....because the sound has changed and there are so many of them in collections that may flood the market at the same time.
  5. I was in Blackpool today went to the only record shop there...so I am lead to believe. Inside was the local record nutter pulling out LP's and telling the owner (a mature woman with long grey hair) all about his instant good finds....Rod Stewart...etc...."before anyone knew him..." but it is an LP????!!!! After making my excuses and leaving I noticed that there were posters in the window for events that had occurred and in the future run by Manship, Searling and amongst the pap....featuring The Wigan Young Souls " as seen on the Culture Show"....or some such drivel. The end is nigh!
  6. I really do think that "The Big Lads" are on their way out.....like all handy fuckers they get old and people forget them. The new kids on the block take over and become the latest "big lads".....whilst The Inspirations, Del-Larks and a few others may still command vast prices.....the sound of Northern is changing and the appeal and sound has altered....there are new kids on the block.....the oldies eventually will be treated with disdain! IMHO
  7. It's a pity they aren't asking for DJ's....they would be inundated with a massive response!
  8. If Bobby Paris "I Walked Away" is the best record or joint record of that time....than thank God I had jacked. He had two "oldies" that were far better.......was it that bad????
  9. When it turns up give me a shout, i'll be in the boozer........I may be some time!
  10. The copy I have at the moment Yellow/ Black/ Red was from Texas a few years back.
  11. I will try to establish where my last copy originated from....the Yellow/ Black/ Red one. My previous copy was the Green/ styrene issue that had sparkly flecking in the label, that came off the stall in Affleck's; Dave/ Rod. Hopefully get back later today with the provenance.
  12. Regular Bull Shit.
  13. A pressing!
  14. No, that one is a proper one....from Ian Clark. There was a far more extensive thread about the bootlegs last year....which was very comprehensive. I have also seen a WHITE LABEL/ BLACK LEGEND label on E- bay.....no bids.....obviously a boot. Yellow/Black/Red on vinyl= Original Green on styrene= Original Yellow/Black on vinyl= bootleg Green on vinyl= bootleg White/black on Ebay= b*llocks!
  15. Yeah, sorry once again I am dead wrong....Betty Lloyd was a rare record in the mid 1970's.....it was a £15:00 record like Donna King, Dynamics on Top Ten, Ann Perry.....that's when they were BIG. Betty Llyod was never really big in those days coz it wasn't up to the standard with its stop /start/twangy guitar sound.....and the Detroit Dib Dobs Club hadn't yet formed.....the scene kept moving relentlessly forward and few records got a second chance.....ie.....Fabulous Jades on Rika.....I do not think that Betty Lloyd is £350:00 worth of record....that's all.
  16. The reason you got eleven more enquiries after you flogged it is that, A) You didn't say that it had been sold. B) The interest was from people who wanted it, but thinking it hadn't gone, got in touch, hoping at a cheaper price. C) You sold it to the only person that would pay £350:00 It is 40 years after I first heard it, as I said it was a rarish thing then......I haven't got one now, and wouldn't want one now, even at half the price.....it isn't worth the money.
  17. So you only want to make a 75% profit....sounds a bit unrealistic.....but do tell, where did you get Johnny Manship's mailing list from?
  18. In my day it was a £15:00 record which indicated that it was rarer than most and hadn't been pressed. In the 80's a lot were found by various people in varying quantities, Dave Withers for one.Obviously the price had increased by then....but in this day and age I cannot envisage anyone parting with that amount of money for the record......and it is a great record.
  19. Why is Betty Lloyd £350:00?
  20. Idle Few, yes great record, great memory! Billy Vera and PJ Proby........would you people buy these two records, if you collected records that is?
  21. Isn't that a "TOPPING BID".....and supposing 2, 5, 9 or 20 people did that? Who wins it??
  22. Jagger and Bowie "Dancing In The Street"...
  23. So why no Barney, Hooky.....people who are of that era? What concerns me is that once again the "fame factor" takes over. How can people who weren't there judge the authenticity......or as Paul Calf says, 'have I set myself up with a false opposition'????
