  11. My gut instinct and memory tells me that Rod and Dave got the tapes and played these after Stafford started, without question Dave definitely played them at Top of the World. I have since checked with Dave who has now confirmed that this was the case and they were in fact played after Stafford had started. After being played for for a while, Dave and Rod produced a limited number of acetates to order, at £25 each of which I bought one of these first batch 'Suspicion' to be exact, still think its a fantastic track to this day. (This is probably where Ady Pountain and others referred to got theirs) ...George
  12. Red SoulCraft is the original and a completely different version.
  13. Agree with this totally, the 70s and 80s were a different game. Records were buyable or should I say affordable, however they were harder to find. Soul Bowl's list every week was a contest to see who could get on the phone first (landlines only then). There was a flourishing, brisk trade in record bars, Wigan and later Stafford, lots of records sold, bought and traded on the night. It would seem now (internet based dealers, ebay etc. etc), by comparison you can pretty quickly buy any title you want provided you are happy to pay top wack. ...George
  14. If you want to buy over the counter in London, try Phonica in Poland St. (phone first) big for techno, house etc.etc. they do though also sell some northern, soul, R&B and jazz 7" re-issues. As they stock lots of accessories just a chance they may sell card sleeves over the counter. Lots of record collectors shops in the Soho area near Phonica too. Rough Trade in Notting Hill (vintage vinyl downstairs, including soul) and in Brick Lane, real record shops, again may well sell card sleeves over the counter. Hope that helps
  15. May be wrong but I believe the MG belonged to WC manager, Mike Walker. Searling caused muted uproar that day by playing mcfadden and whitehead ain't no stopping us now, in the middle of his set! The only person enthused and not bemused I seem to remember was Sam.
  16. First saw these stick on demos in the record bar at Wigan, two guys had just got 'promos' of one of the later releases directly from Richard that night. The story went something like Richard felt the printed demo copies were having an adverse effect on the sales of the formal issue copies. I can't remember for certain but not sure if there were ever printed demo copies of those last few releases as a consequence.
  17. it looks like the copy offered on here, in the sales section a few months back ... along with the other shrine titles. the same seller I think
