Why do some people include "let's have no politics & just enjoy the music" in their posts then do precisely the opposite?
Can any dj honestly say they have never played a record of "dubious" origin?
Think about the word honestly before you answer.
Collectors & djs have this misconception that they own the scene - many of whom are so anally retentive that to actually be bothered to spend some time on a dancefloor & heaven forbid "enjoy themselves" is beyond them.
Twenty dancers or one "chin stroker" - which of these adds up to a good night at a venue?
-
Think all the "die hard" northern fans should carbon date DJs records to make sure the record wasn't manufactured after December 31st 1969. Heaven forbid that they would actually like anything made after that date.
What do people think records like "Grooving At The GoGo", "Out On The Floor" & "At The DISCOtheque" referred to !!!!!!!!!!
All the clues are there .

Hey - This is the future - soon we'll all be doing them - think they are referred to as "wakes"

Russ would only take part if it was in the "poppy" section!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Pete
Carstairs has gone massive again all over the country while you've been away - 12inch remix of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Jimmy Ruffin - "I'll Never Let You Get Away". B side of "Farewell Is A Lonely Sound".
-
I mentioned on a previous thread that way back "then" Chubby Checker was "At The Discotheque".
I don't think "At The Place That Plays Rare Uptempo Sixties Soul" was ever considered as an aternative title.
-
I think Uncle Dickie called it "Love You Like A Man" - by who I can't remember. Don't lie awake at night thinking too much about it though.
-
How Sad.
Don't care what sort of soul floats your boat - we have lost a legend.
One of the "truly great" voices of soul.
RIP Luther.

Didn't want to disappoint Pete - as you haven't me.

QUOTE "Paula Parfitt Love Is Wonderful, whats it going for at the moment"
Going for a lifetime of never being played again would be my wish.

IMHO the trick is to listen to everything - that way you don't miss out.
Soul music was good yesterday & it will be good tomorrow.

The 7 inch has a slightly less of a "boogie" feel. Different mix
However even Chubby Checker liked being "Down the Disco" sometime in the midst of the 60s.
-
Nice to hear you put the 12inch version on Pete - just forget the 7" & album version - long version reigns supreme. Big tune @ Family Tree gigs - an anthem.
Ebay has copies on quite regularly - between 30 & 40 quid now.

Like the JJ Barnes "Everybody Needs Somebody" Motown acetate - anyone got a soundfile of this?
-
That is a fake mate, it's just had the pitch changed, I know this for a fact because I recreated it myself and I'm pretty sure I posted it up here about 2 months ago. Just need a program called "the amazing slow downer" and you can speed up the vocal while the backing track stays the original speed.

Sneaky eh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Must be Henri Camara's agent behind this one.

Look At Me Now - Carl Carlton (Same as Terry Callier)
Ego Levine played it from an acetate on the Dick Searling show some years ago
-
Until You Come Back To Me - Aretha Franklin
Never Can Say Goodbye - Jackson 5
Tell Me What You Want - Jimmy Ruffin
IMHO These are just good soul records - I think the word "commercial" refers to the fact they sold well & hit the mainstream charts - this does not detract from their quality. Perhaps we sometimes get bogged down in the rarity & value syndrome to listen to what real quality is hiding in the dark corners of our boxes.

Glad that is sorted then - I only said he was white upon information recieved.
He could be from the planet Zod as far as I am concerned - what a wonderful piece of music he has given us.

Tragic news indeed - hugely underrated IMHO - had his own unique style - another sad loss to the soul scene.
RIP Willie
