  1. Always a favourite - Dickie Searling plays it quite often on "Cellar Full of Soul"
  2. Quote "The 'under £20' night may happen before that" Do you mean people pay MORE than 20 quid for their tunes? Are they mad?
  3. Don't you just love the cut & thrust of a good debate?
  4. Makes a bit of a nonsense of your signature about all modern records Pete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. The Philly Steps Tom Moulton Remix of Yes I'm Ready is always the last record of the night at The Family Tree gig. Love it when the owner of the club asks to play one more before closing - eight minutes later they are still dancing - bet he wishes we still played two & a half minute stompers. Brilliant record IMHO.
  6. Margie Joseph Lorraine Chandler Brenda Holloway
  7. Haven't got it myself - when I get two, I'll rip you off with the second copy
  8. Somebody listened to Solar this morning - didn't they?
  9. Somebody must have been playing The Traditions in the studio beforehand - "That's proper northern soul - innit"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. A record is ruined for me if it has the words Bill & Bush in the singers name
  11. Remember Ian Levine playing it in the Highland Room around '74 I think. Always found it a rather weak record - quite surprised it went huge at Wigan - not really got that "All Nighter" feel to it.
  12. Zola - King Errison Rosemary What Happened - Popcorn Wylie Cool Off - Detroit Executives None of the above titles are bad - in fact I love them all - they are just "different"
  13. "I'm Waiting" - Bill Bush - seriously dreadful - or do you want opinions on bad SOUL records 'cos I don't know what category to put this pile of poo in.
  14. There was certainly copies on at 12 noon today - it is still @ £87.00 - Methinks I shoulda bought some more copies - but I will leave exploitation & plain stupidity to others. Debating with myself which of these two evils is worse.
  15. Word to the wise - Daybreak back on Juno - Bidding starts & ends @ £5.56 + VAT - you could always buy it off Ebay for over £75.00 if you want to.
  16. The upload is Bettye Swann - the track is actually called - "I Want Sunday Back Again". Bought the Maxine Weldon version on a Monument single off Neil Rushton around about 75/76 for 30p.
  17. I too was at Lowton - looked at the said record - looks genuine to me - different - yes - even got all the right stamps in the deadwax - can't imagine bootleggers going to that much trouble. Flanny is one of the "good guys" - he would rather do you a favour than any harm. If he thought the record was a boot he would have said so - either way Flanny couldn't exactly retire on the proceeds of a Bobby Relf could he? Sometimes people on this site are too quick too crucify others - opinions are like a**eholes - we've all got one!!!
  18. Don't think it was ever booted - great record that it is - was a last hour tune from The Mecca in '75 - played by Colin Curtis. Very rarely seen - you are a lucky boy.
  19. "Everybody Needs Somebody" - JJ Barnes - Brilliant!!!!!!!
  20. Can't believe that nobody has mentioned - so I'll do it for you "Walk Away From Love" - David Ruffin AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
  21. Think one of the reasons that records are not "broken" easily is down to the amount of venues per month all spread around the country. Back in the day when Mecca & Wigan were the weekly gigs the same djs would push their new discoveries to generally the same attendees. Put a Sunday All Dayer in the mix & you would here a "new" tune possibly 6 or 7 times during that weekend - two or three weeks later that record was "big"- sometimes even overnight.
  22. Not wanting to sound too picky but some of the records listed in this discussion are over 25 years old - do we still percieve these records as "modern"? The Four Tops were recording "modern" records once - but that was in 1965. Just realised - anything recorded after December 31st 1969 is classed as modern by some contributors on this site. Soul music was good in '65 & 40 years on the new releases are still good - open up your minds - you're missing out!
