  1. WENT FOR £85!

HAD IT IN MY WATCHED ITEMS BUT DECLINED

    NICE CHOON THOUGH :P

NOW THAT YOU MENTIONED IT ,IT IS SAME CHOON AS MARBOO,A TAD BETTER IMHO

Marboo & Brief Encounter are completely different records - only the titles are the same.

  2. I've noticed, for years, that there has always been a strange predeliction with asking £10, £20+ for recently released 'house' records that are deemed soulful enough to be played on the soul scene - I can remeber 'Deja Vu' back in the day being flogged for £20 when I still had it in the racks @ it's correct £2.99 - why is is it? The majority can be found on Ebay for 99p.

If anybody wants my copy of Deja Vu make me an offer.

  3. It's getting back to the days when they played any old crap with a beat.

Sadly that has been the case for many a long year. When people are tipping tunes by Tom Jones, Cilla Black etc there has to be something wrong. To be honest it is no better than when Tony Blackburn, Derek & Ray etc. were played - How far has the Northern "Soul" (sic) scene progressed really?

  4. Only 52 weekends in a year - take out 6-8 weekenders - leaves you with approximately 45 weekends to go at. Blackburn & Prestwich in the North - which are always well attended - take out another twelve - how many are we down to now?

Too many gigs - not enough attendees.

  5. HOWS ABOUT BUYING A DEAN COURTNEY MGM DEMO MINT AT A A GREAT PRICE LOVE YOU JUST CAN WALK AWAY

IT ARRIVES AND OPENED UP PACKAGE TO FIND THEY,VE ONLY SELLO TAPED THE RECORD TO THE CARDBOARD WITH 2" SELLOTAPE IN A BIG X CROSS LABEL ACTUALLY COVERS EVERY BIT OF LABEL !!

NEVER MIND THE RAIN THIS IS OUTRAGIOUS BEHAVIOUR !!!!!!!!!!

Things that make me cringe? People who constantly post on forums IN CAPITAL LETTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Yes Mike Terry and those other crack Detroit session men playing on it are committing crimes against music aren't they :D

Yes - those Detroit greats did a fine job - it is a pity you can't polish a turd though.

  7. He was from Lebanon not Israel. Apparently.

With tunes like that around no wonder there is always unrest in the Middle East - Nabay is one of the worst atrocities inflicted on the western world. thmbdn.gif IMHO of course.

  8. And at The Fleet. Not a Wigan tune at all, more East Coast :P -Mecca! Feck,it was all NYD & Funk before Narbay came along

Let's all agree that NYD & Funk is crap - & pop music from Israel is wonderful - glad that is sorted then.

  9. Not many replies to the actual title of the thread - once again it has descended into an oldies v newies battle.

Has this topic not been done to death already?

Don't go to many Northern venues these days so if anyone wants to tell me what "post sixties" records are being played feel free.

  10. Sorry but this is ballocks! As a promotor you need to cover your costs, and that includes paying the DJ people who have agreed to grace your venue. It's no good saying you don't know how many are going to turn up, you need to treat it as if enough people will turn up and have enough dosh in your old wallet to cover those costs. If punters don't turn up and you lose money, then sorry but don't promote gigs. It's simple really and a promotor should always pay their DJs - end of.......

    EXACTLY

  11. Only problem I have with DJs pay is when the amount of paying guests dictates the pay you recieve.

To me the cost of a night should be calculated on the following:-

    Cost of venue hire

    Cost of promotion

Cost of Security Staff (if required)

    Cost of DJs.

That is the total "kitty" - the promoter should have this in hand before one person pays any admission price.

Have seen quite a few gigs where the promoter is nervously pacing around the entrance hoping 20 more people would arrive so he could afford to pay the DJs without going in to his own pocket.

Does he get a reduction in room hire? - NO

Do the "bouncers" get a reduction in their fee? - NO

Does he ask the DJs to take a smaller fee? Invariably YES.

The quick answer to promoters is DO YOUR SUMS.

  12. Used to love hearing this in the 70s & 80s when the thicko mobile jock would play it at wedding receptions - don't think he actually listened to the words. thumbsup.gif

Closely followed by "Young Hearts Run Free" - can just see the tears of the brides mother rolling down her cheeks.

  13. I have no worries if a song should be remixed as long as it's the standard Northern etc. You can get good 12" versions of songs like Out on the Floor

and released a few years back was Diana Ross and the Supremes - Honey Bee (out on the Floor Mix) which is really good as the original version.

The worst is getting it remixed in some dance style which is nothing to do with soul music

Are you saying if a soul record is remixed badly - it ceases to be a soul record?

  14. Jose Feliciano.....OUTSTANDING.........5 TRACKS IN.LOVING IT. Brilliant stuff Andy.

    Brett

Cheers Brett - Mr Feliciano will always remind me of you & I first meeting each other at Morecambe - now be a good chap & send me an mp3 of that wonderful Frankie Nieves track.
