  1. I liked Hubert Laws - Chicago Theme from that era.  Probably a lead balloon now,

Hubert Laws is still a classic tune - one of the records that typified where The Mecca was in 1975.

  2. i have all the tracks written down - took  me ages was gonna type em up....wud take WAYYYY too long so not gonna bother,,,,16 podcasts ...lots of xover which im not into but lots of forgotten/new quality stuff aplenty of good 60s/70s...

I have listened to all the podcasts & I think he has duplicated one record - do you know which one it is ?

  3. Blimey, with the current pulling power/popularity of that record and profile of the event, we might well have witnessed a watershed moment! !

Only time will tell whether it's for the better or the worst! !

    Cheers,

    Mark

Northern Soul has already had its "better & worst" moments - past caring to be honest - I have had great times listening, dancing & buying this wonderful music. I am at an age now where how people enjoy it is up to them - perhaps we should just rejoice in the fact that the music is still being listened to nearly 50 years since its creation.

  4. I know Ian Levine said he didn't want to be part of it unless it was actually at the Mecca which, of course, is impossible. I'm also aware of Les Cokell's demise and  the sad state of Tony Jebb's health.

I'm not really in favour of trying to recapture anything from the past as it's an impossible task. Anniversaries are fine if the club is still open (i.e. the 100 Club) but rather pointless if it has been shut and subsequently demolished for over 30 years. Also dressing up like you did 40 years ago when you're in your 50s or 60s is also rather sad. I remember laughing at the Teds when they had their revival in the mid 70s and they were only dressing up like they did 20 years before!

We tend to focus on the post '75 tunes - the jazz funk/disco - new release from that period stuff. We even dress normally too !!

  5. :hatsoff2: HI ALL  I must agree with the above TONY JEBB was &  the best, however integral for a MECCA revival, where will you get people to give the authentic atmosphere that the Highland had, it's also having a Keele all-nighter without me selling records and Mick Smith not doing his set, I would guess it would be dull & dim &. the dance floor covered in Vim  DAVE K

PS:- YES YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT TONY, VERY SAD, THERE WAS TALK LAST YEAR OF A SPECIAL EVENT FOR HIM IN BLACKPOOL?

There is a benefit night for him on November 29th in Blackpool.
