the problem is if you start playing CD only tracks on a CD player - the best place to play CDs I've always found. tell you what Ill just burn the tracks I play on to one - Which is exactly the same as playing a carver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Newday - Wait a minute - On Top £12 Somebody buy this - fantastic group sound - best 12 quid you will ever spend!!!!!

Collecting & DJing are two seperate things. Nobody on here is ever going to convince me that a carver has any more credibility than a track played off a cd where the only "legitimit" release of the track is on a cd. If you crave a certain track that you must have it so badly that owning a carver of it is the only option then that is fine & dandy for your own use but please DON'T DJ with them.

Yes - if a forward thinking promoter has a CD deck in the rig he provides. Or is that too simple an answer.
  5. Epic replied to Bazza's topic in All About the SOUL
The point I was trying to make was how much the playing of CDs on this scene is seriously frowned upon - yet playing carvers is deemed by some as acceptable. If you carve it for your own use I think that is fine - if you DJ with it - again IMVHO that is not acceptable.

If it's only release is on LP - Play the LP If it's only release is on CD - Play the CD. If you copy any of these formats on to a carver IMVHO it is a bootleg - no matter how many different ways people try to justify this practice.

  14. Why do people assume that if a record has a certain sixties feel about it then it must be made for a relatively small underground scene in England ? I think the likes of Sharon Jones, Nicole Willis want to make money out of their craft - relying on the Northern Soul scene to provide them with an income will leave them sadly disappointed methinks.
  15. Just remembered - it's Loleatta Holloway.
  16. The lyrics are from the song "We Did It" by Syl Johnson - I have heard the female version before but the name of the artist escapes me.
  17. Yes the DJ is very well hung - thankyou!!!
  18. As I said in my earlier post Pete it was played in jest - a bit of fun - having a laugh - people enjoying themselves- not taking things too seriously - are you beginning to get the picture? It was played at "Soulful Dance" evening - I would not dream of playing it or wanting to hear it at a rare soul event - others might - that is their choice.
  19. Yes it was played at The Orwell in the Soulful Dance room - I know 'cos I was the guy who played it !!!! I only ever intended to play it once - just for a little bit of a giggle & the needle heavily weighted with irony - it was played for a bit of fun - no more no less. The dancefloor seemed to like it judging by the number of people swaying along to it with smiles on their faces. The sad thing is the reaction on here is exactly why the scene is so screwed up - lighten up people & try enjoying yourselves every once in a while - you might get to like it!!!!
  20. Reissued in 2004 by Warner/Atlantic UK - "Here I Go Again" is on the other side. Always plenty on Ebay for about 7 or 8 quid.

Nice 70s Philly version by The Intruders.
  22. Fantastic tunes - really heartwarming that there is still quality out there yet to be uncovered - keep diggin' people.
  23. Lorraine Chandler - "What Can I Do" - The way that the sax just bubbles along subtley in the background is pure bliss. A record that whenever I hear it I am reminded why I got into soul music in the first place - absolutely wonderful!!
  24. Better still get the album (quite hard on Brown Door) - got a reissue on Concord. The track is completely different on the LP - lot crisper & longer in duration - in fact it sounds like a completely different take.
