Absolute Sacrilige
Yes it was played at The Orwell in the Soulful Dance room - I know 'cos I was the guy who played it !!!! I only ever intended to play it once - just for a little bit of a giggle & the needle heavily weighted with irony - it was played for a bit of fun - no more no less. The dancefloor seemed to like it judging by the number of people swaying along to it with smiles on their faces. The sad thing is the reaction on here is exactly why the scene is so screwed up - lighten up people & try enjoying yourselves every once in a while - you might get to like it!!!!

Fantastic tunes - really heartwarming that there is still quality out there yet to be uncovered - keep diggin' people.- Mike Terry
Lorraine Chandler - "What Can I Do" - The way that the sax just bubbles along subtley in the background is pure bliss. A record that whenever I hear it I am reminded why I got into soul music in the first place - absolutely wonderful!!- Marvin Holmes, Clarification Please
Better still get the album (quite hard on Brown Door) - got a reissue on Concord. The track is completely different on the LP - lot crisper & longer in duration - in fact it sounds like a completely different take.- Graham Warr Catacombs Discoveries
Wow!!. - What a great list. Must have been fantastic hearing them for the first time - stiil looks like great "oldies" spot to me. CLASS!!!- Birth Of Modern Soul
But-as everybody knows :- All records were modern once!!!- The Pointer Sisters
Just out today. Enjoy or despise!!!!!! https://www.juno.co.uk:80/products/305078-01.htm- The First Choice- The Player
Big fave round these parts is "Running Out Of Fools" - nice, moody, Philly groover. In fact the whole Armed & Extremely Dangerous album oozes class.- The First Choice- The Player
Brilliant record!!!! Philly Classic Love the re-mix that came out a couple of years ago - far too long for the niter crowd - but a great tune nonetheless.- Tymes Timings
Way Of The Crowd is 2 minutes 51 seconds long. Good version it is to IMHO.- Birth Of Modern Soul
I love the curiosities this wonderful scene of ours throws up. 1969 - The Twisted Wheel plays records that are possibly 2-4 years old - that is Northern Soul. 2008 - "Anyvenue" plays a record from 1975 - that is Modern Soul. Bizarre!!!- Wigan Casino Top Twenty
Seem to think the song contained the words "Spiderman - where are you coming from Spiderman" - very uptempo if memory serves me correctly.- Wigan Casino Top Twenty
- Wigan Casino Top Twenty
IMHO Wigan went pretty much downhill after 1975 - can remember Biddu etc. being played - they were just a taste of the shape of things to come.- Wigan Casino Top Twenty
Would love to see a list from a year earlier - think the tunes would have been a tad better than Tommy Hunt- Flower Shoppe - Biddu etc.- The Second Most Important Venue......revised
Yes - Blackpool Mecca for me. Northern, Modern, "The Last Hour"(Birth of Crossover) Disco & Jazz Funk. The Highland Room did it ALL!!!!!!! & that was before 1977.- The Second Most Important Venue......revised
Think most people would agree that the "golden era" for the discovery of the classic northern soul tunes (now sometimes referred to as "played out oldies" in certain circles) was 1971-1974/75. This obviously encompasses Torch, Mecca, Va-Va, Catacombs & Wigan. Wigan did not open until 1973 & was heavily influenced by the other clubs listed above. In 1976 the "oldies" nights overtook the regular Saturday nights in popularity. In fairness I think Wigan clawed some credibility back in 79/80 when Richard Searling was playing some awesome tuneage.- Wilson Williams
One time member of The Platters. Loads of the 12 on Ebay at the mo. - plenty of "buy it now" from 4 to 7 quid.- Repeat Plays By Djs
It's not rocket science - or has that already had an outing (twice)- Titles
Close........ but no cigar!!! See post #27 for further details.- Titles
Think you need to listen again!!!! The line is "Baby please don't make me wait too long" etc.etc. Just after the break he sings "Girl don't ...........don't make me wait"- Titles
