  1. Its not!! have you ever done a cd for somebody or a tape now thats worser in my books and if i own the record or whatever ¬'ll carve it if i want for my own use,its not a bootleg until i sell it maybe ? you cant tell people what format to use can ya'.

The point I was trying to make was how much the playing of CDs on this scene is seriously frowned upon - yet playing carvers is deemed by some as acceptable. If you carve it for your own use I think that is fine - if you DJ with it - again IMVHO that is not acceptable.

  2. If it's only release is on LP - Play the LP

If it's only release is on CD - Play the CD.

If you copy any of these formats on to a carver IMVHO it is a bootleg - no matter how many different ways people try to justify this practice.

  6. i agree !!!!not awesome at all

levine does a record he gets slated , good bit of publicity, how can it be northern anyway it aint even been relised,

I THOUGHT THE SCENCE DIDNT WANT "TAILOR MAID 45s" OR HAVE I LOST THE PLOT??? ID RATHER LISTEN TO PUNK ROCK THAN DUFFY

Why do people assume that if a record has a certain sixties feel about it then it must be made for a relatively small underground scene in England ?

I think the likes of Sharon Jones, Nicole Willis want to make money out of their craft - relying on the Northern Soul scene to provide them with an income will leave them sadly disappointed methinks.

  7. Thats bollocks I'm afraid. People destroying classic records is far more likely to screw up the scene than people complaining about it.

As I said in my earlier post Pete it was played in jest - a bit of fun - having a laugh - people enjoying themselves- not taking things too seriously - are you beginning to get the picture?

It was played at "Soulful Dance" evening - I would not dream of playing it or wanting to hear it at a rare soul event - others might - that is their choice.

  8. Agree with you a 100% Pete, what a load of old Tosh, whats more worrying though it was played at the Orwell :wicked: ,

but are they aiming at the younger market?,or trying to make a quick buck out of the scene??.

    Dave f..........

Yes it was played at The Orwell in the Soulful Dance room - I know 'cos I was the guy who played it !!!!

I only ever intended to play it once - just for a little bit of a giggle & the needle heavily weighted with irony - it was played for a bit of fun - no more no less. The dancefloor seemed to like it judging by the number of people swaying along to it with smiles on their faces.

The sad thing is the reaction on here is exactly why the scene is so screwed up - lighten up people & try enjoying yourselves every once in a while - you might get to like it!!!!

  9. Lorraine Chandler - "What Can I Do" - The way that the sax just bubbles along subtley in the background is pure bliss.

A record that whenever I hear it I am reminded why I got into soul music in the first place - absolutely wonderful!!

  10. Modern or oldies ? - let me see ...........

All records played are " oldies " ........

The only difference in records , is that there are obvious musical differences of style , tempo and content , and the year the were recorded in ........

Now that observation will put the cat amongst the pigeons .........

    Malc Burton

But-as everybody knows :- All records were modern once!!!
