What about the OVO tribesmen ?
-
It was pressed up at Monarch Pressing Plant in Los Angeles in 1974 (Delta # 102402). It was rumoured that it was pressed up by Simon Soussan. If it had been a legitimate re-issue by the owner, Roger Bass (or whoever owned Sound, Inc.) in Detroit, why was it pressed in L.A. Should we really assume that British record dealers paid Bass, or whoever owned the rights to Sound City's recordings, for issuing that record? I rather doubt that.
Thought it was later than '74 - it certainly wasn't "big" over here until after that.

Scenario at a lot of venues is DJ comes on plays a couple of unknown/semi known tunes & empties the floor - he then sticks on Moses Smith/Rufus Lumley etc. & fills the floor - so it all goes round in circles again.
The people who go to a lot of gigs don't want to listen to anything new to their ears - they are too busy going to dance classes, flash mobbing or attending venues in shopping centres !!

Think every ground in the country plays it - Wigan Athletic usually twice before kick off !!
Went to watch Wolves at Blackpool last Saturday & the stadium announcer played it followed by the phrase "You can't beat a bit of Northern Soul !!" -
It's not the only re-release !!!

Was it ever released by him? Or just shopped around as a songwriters demo?
Quite amazing that the song kept being recorded during such a long period of time by different artists. From 1966 to 1972.
Apparently there's a version by Richard Williams as well on an LP called "Where Do I Go" on the Quad label produced by Johnny Pate. Has anyone of you heard it?
Yes - I have the album - slowish version but ok though - not amazing !!

Good version on Motown by Kiki Dee

Just be thankful that it wasn't "The Nation's Favourite Northern Soul Songs".
They are played out every week - don't need a TV programme to tell you that !!
-
Wonderful ...
Whoever decided that that David Bowie record has any resemblance to Northern Soul needs to go outside & have a very severe word with themselves !!!

There is a "Mecca Memories" night at The Samlesbury Hotel (Preston) on November 22nd.
DJs Colin Curtis, Pete Haigh, Steve Naylor & Andy Lett - the music is the post Northern era - 1975-77/78 & focuses on the Disco & Jazz Funk tunes played there.
This is an annual event - we are now in our fifth year & the previous four have been brilliant !!!
Sounds right up your mates street !!

Poor ticket sales seems to be the reason - wonder if you get your "booking fee" returned with your refund ?
-
Think it was a spin at The Torch originally.

That was the "informative" one about how we all spent 6 days a week down a mine & then came out to dance to Rain - "Out Of My Mind"
