  1. Please tell me then your definition of a pop record over a soul record - in a Northern Soul context .
  2. Are we assuming that if the singer is white the record is a "pop" record ? That seems to be the trend here. Danny Wagner - "I Lost A True Love" - a "pop" record that is as soulful as you can get !!
  3. We were dancing like that (or trying to !!) at a club in Blackpool called Disco '72 - way before people were "Dancing the Kung Fu" !! Never seen the link to Soul music & martial arts myself although I was a blue belt in Origami in 1975 !!
  4. The truth is certain people would sooner listen & dance to a worn out pressing of"Girl Across The Street" than have the slightest interest in who Mike Terry even is. He may as well be a carpet fitter from Runcorn as far as they are concerned !!
  5. The sad thing is (& I have said this many times before) that these tunes will not get played in clubs so people can truly appreciate them. a) The OVO brigade won't touch them b) The "Top 500" crew won't even know this CD exists. I take my hat off to Ade for getting these CDs released - it would be great if they were given the recognition they truly deserve.
  6. Jesse James "If You Want A Love Affair" "I'll be the daddy, you'll be the wife, we can play house for the rest of our life" .............. that James boy has vision !!!
  7. Betty Lavette appeared at the same venue at a weekender in 2002 !!!
  8. What Would I Do - Superiors Shing A Ling - Cooperettes Rat Race - Righteous Bros Band Love Love Love - Bobby Hebb Stop & Take A Look At Yourself - Shalimars What Would I Do - Tymes I Worship You Baby - Glories Stirrin' Up Some Soul - Marketts Just Ask Me - Lenis Guess/Elsie Strong Have More Time - Marvin Smith ........... & they all still sound great to me
  9. What about the OVO tribesmen ?
  10. Thought it was later than '74 - it certainly wasn't "big" over here until after that.
  11. On "The Way You've Been Acting Lately" - what is it the girls sing before the say "The Way You've Been Acting Lately" ?
  12. Sharon confirmed to me that the "I Have No Choice" is not her on vocals.
  13. I spoke to Sharon McMahon earlier this year & it was never released - she has a whole load of stuff from the 60s unreleased - watch this space though !!!

    Two Wanted

    Sharon McMahon is acetate only.

  16. Scenario at a lot of venues is DJ comes on plays a couple of unknown/semi known tunes & empties the floor - he then sticks on Moses Smith/Rufus Lumley etc. & fills the floor - so it all goes round in circles again. The people who go to a lot of gigs don't want to listen to anything new to their ears - they are too busy going to dance classes, flash mobbing or attending venues in shopping centres !!
  17. Think every ground in the country plays it - Wigan Athletic usually twice before kick off !! Went to watch Wolves at Blackpool last Saturday & the stadium announcer played it followed by the phrase "You can't beat a bit of Northern Soul !!"
  18. It's not the only re-release !!! https://www.discogs.com/Don-Gardner-Cheatin-Kind/release/2678114
  19. Yes - I have the album - slowish version but ok though - not amazing !!
  20. They are played out every week - don't need a TV programme to tell you that !!
  21. Whoever decided that that David Bowie record has any resemblance to Northern Soul needs to go outside & have a very severe word with themselves !!!
