  1. This is a strange one this record

You never see it for sale hardly at all even on EBay - seems like alot of people have it in Aberdeen as its well known up here but not that well known all over.

Hope you get one Tony - I see Haydn might be able to help you out :thumbup:

Two copies that I know of on The Fylde Coast - mine & Pete Haigh's. What is the going rate for this tune now ? It will help me decide if it is a "Northern Classic" or "Disco Dross"

  2. If you listen to CeCe Rogers-Someday this is a perfect example of House hitting Northern Soul

(or what happens when an irrestible force hits an immovable object)

THERE'S SOUL ALL OVER THE PLACE.......................!!!!!!

Yes that wonderful piano riff was used in many dance tunes thereafter - I love "Someday" absolute classic.

  3. What!!!

4 of these ara amongst my favourites and I can tolerate the other and Barbara McNair I also like.

That's a hefty burden you've got off your chest there ! Are you sure that it's not just that you're tired of them rather than never got them? I go through that phase with many overexposed classics but they usually come back good as ever after a rest.

    Andy

Honestly never liked any of them - reasons below

What Kind Of Lady - Dee Dee Sharp (Ms Sharp, who I adore, becomes Ms Shouty on this)

Let Her Go - Otis Smith (SingalongaMax chorus)

Girl Across The Street - Moses Smith (Dreadful lyrics)

Nothing Can Compare To You - Velvet Satins (Rock & Roll)

'Cause You're Mine - Vibrations. (Extremely noisy)

  4. Epic,

I've got some bits of 100 yr old floorboard in my garage, you want to make a bid for them? I'll quite happily pour beer and talc on them and lets not forget to stamp Highland Room on them if you want.

    Ron

Only if the beer is watered down "Wilson's Bitter" - authentic Highland Room ale !!

  5. Bloody typical!

What's the betting there'll be a big pile of rubble there for the next few years until the funding unfreezes.............? What a waste........

    Ian D

To paraphrase Kevin Costner "If we (re) build it, they will come" - I have a piece of dance floor in my house................. well, it's a start !! :)

  6. Possibly my favorite LP, definatley my favorite LP cover.

As you say a great LP all round - as regards the cover & name it all adds up to being a heavy funk group - of course when you listen to it their soulful harmonies take you to another level - if you only ever own one 70s album this the one you should have - it's blinding !!

  7. FFS!!

So if something doesn't exist on vinyl, has never existed on vinyl, it cannot be played at all, because it never existed on original vinyl? Tell that to the guy's who got the studio tape of Kae Williams, and had cuts made; or Adey who got unreleased tapes from RCA and had cuts done to play at the 100 club! The thing does not exist on vinyl!!! Ergo, ANY vinyl cut made from the Cd or tape is the original i.e. first, vinyl it has ever existed on! If anything appears on vinyl for the fist time ever, is it not original vinyl? Not gonna argue the toss over this anymore, some folk on here would argue black is f**king white just for the sake of it. (Either that or they are genuinely thick) frusty2.gif

Adey then put all those brilliant tracks on 2 blinding CDs - The Sharon Scott tracks are absolutely brilliant & I would not have a problem with any DJ playing these tracks off a CD at a venue. In fact I think it is a crying shame that the said tracks are overlooked because the CD is, in some quarters, regarded as "the devils work" & should be avoided at all costs. I understand that a lot of gigs do not have CD decks but let's be honest they are not exactly the most expensive pieces of equipment are they ?

  8. OK, an update.

The Frank Wilson original copy is now in the hands of John Manship.

Plus there's a LOT of media interest from all sorts of unlikely places.

But where do we think this record is going?

At this early stage (some 4 weeks before the auction actually commences), the talk on the street is that it will almost certainly be heading out of the UK. So does that mean that one of the two known copies will leave the UK perhaps forever? And where will it go?

    Ian D :D

One thing to consider - if the tune is going to leave theses shores - where does that leave the Frank Wilson OVO fans?

  9. PPS I am a total OVO Snob, but where no OVO exists...... Does someone have to drag in a reel-to-reel tape player 'cos they only have the studio tape?

Surely those two words kind of defeat any argument you may have - OVO is what it is - ORIGINAL VINYL ONLY !!

  10. We are talking about Tammi Terrell in this thread...it never got an official release...as has beren stated...So what I can gather from what you're saying...is that if it hasn't had an official release then it can't be played out at all? Am I right? Because judging by your last post that's exactly what you're saying

My view is clear...if you can buy it on Original Vinyl then get it...if it HAS NEVER BEEN RELEASED on Original vinyl then if you want to hear it in a club there is no other option than to make a boot of it...simple as that.

First off, at no point in my postings have I said it can't be played out.

I really don't want to sound like a radical but let me make a completely off the wall suggestion ........................... play the CD!!!! That way it DOES get played out & to make things even better you can play it in it's only official, legal release format. - Motown see the popularity of these CDs thus releasing more previously unissued gems for us all to enjoy You don't have to buy a carver or play a boot - everybody's happy!!!

  11. What? Even if it's never been released?!

You talk some utter bollocks sometimes...seriously :lol:

I didn't make the rules about OVO - other people do that.

To help me understand (& so as not to talk some utter bollocks) please explain to me why it is acceptable to play a carver (bootleg) & not okay to play a legally released CD track. If anybody can give me a definitive answer to this question I will graciously concede to their better knowledge.

  12. To me OVO should mean just that.................. not OVO but I can play the odd carver or two.

Once people take the high moral ground about original vinyl that is where they must then stay. Anybody IMHO who pays to have a piece of music copied onto an acetate or carver has broken their own code of conduct & is not in any position to criticise anybody else who doesn't happen to play OVO.

  13. I am now entering "Barry's World" - I have this vision of Kenneth More djing in an old dis-used aircraft hangar - he drops "The Aeroplane Song" onto the floor comes Douglas Bader - when the tune hits the break Bader attempts an ill advised back drop (just to show he can) of couse he is now flat on his back & cannot get up. Nobody bothers to help him until a kindly seventies childrens TV presenter - we shall call him Derek, with the help of two cuddly toys, walks over & helps him to his feet. "There, there all over now Douglas - let's go home through the arched window & we'll listen to some "Soulful Playhouse" tunes on the way there"

  14. Too bloody right Rod.

Just had this terrible image of everybody sat round with boxes full of records all armed with digital verniers comparing thicknesses of records.

Just to put this into some perspective your thumbnail is about 1mm thick so now divide it by 100 & you'll realise just how mad this really is.

Digital Verniers?????????? What's up with a genuine 1960s Moore & Wright 0"-!" Micrometer (batteries not an option).
