  1. The album The Embers brought out about 18 months ago is worth checking out if you haven't heard it. https://www.cdbaby.com/cd/embersmusic2/from/streasures Like the title track & also their version of Ronnie Limar's "You Mean The World To Me Sweetheart"
  2. RIP Chris Bartley - Love his Vando album - bought in a newsagents/record shop as a cutout for 99p back in the day - stunning work from Mr B & Van McCoy. BTW - How good is "You Get Next To My Heart" ??????????????? Wonderful !!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. In 1972 a tune I heard at a local youth club was Bobby Hebb - "Love Love Love. I bought a copy from Starpic in Blackpool & played that record all Summer long in the school holidays. It became a favourite of my late mums - like to play it every now & again just to remember her singing along to it - wonderful tune & memory of a very special person in my life.
  5. https://vanmccoymusic.com/van/home.htm Brilliant site about this true genius - go on the discography - it has some great soundbytes on there. BTW "Soul Improvisations" (full album version) - How good is that !!!
  6. Modern electro pop/dance ??????????????? Been listening to Soul music for over 35 years can't recall ever listening to anything like that - must be the wrong "high street" clubs I've been to.
  7. Took the words right out of my mouth - I would love to attend all these "high street" nightclubs that play modern quality soulful dance music - a few people on here must have their addresses because they are in every town up & down the country.
  8. Agreed !!!! Us Northerners no nowt !!! Believe Lou Edwards had a couple of spins thirty odd years ago in the area where the M6 has cobblestones. My underplayed (& always has been) tune is "Somebody I Know"- Wales Wallace. I suspect had this record been rare it would be a true collectors trophy piece.
  9. In my opinion (& it's not a humble one this time) Maurice Williams is quite simply the greatest record ever played on the Northern Soul scene.
  10. Not The Marrying Kind - Kenni Lewis Wake Up To The Sunshine Girl - Joey Delorenzo Someday The Sun Will Sine - Deon Jackson plus the unreleased Motown tunes discovered since Wigan - Lewis Sisters, Brenda Holloway, Barbara McNair etc. Unreleased RCA stuff - Sharon Scott , Lorrainne Chandler - "You Only Live Twice" etc. September Jones unreleased tracks The already mentioned "Love Finds A Way" Think all the above would have seen some Station Rd dancefloor action

  12. Can see my point was totally lost on you. If you are going to all the trouble of insulting somebody think you should at least make sure you spell their name correctly - it's L-E-V-I-N-E !!!!!
  13. Back in 1977 - The Highland Room had some new decks fitted. My brother "liberated" one of the old decks - it was just propped up on the little stage where Levine & Curtis spun the tunes - end of the night it somehow made its way under his coat. Think of what tunes had played for the 1st time on that deck - that is what you call "proper" memorabillia !! Not saying where it is now,but I see it every week !!
  14. Think these charted on release, before being played on the Northern Scene.
  15. Great memories of a great record - Haigh, Naylor & Lett grooving along to The Rimshots - sliding from side to side until the all important "Do, Do Do What You Feel" chorus blasted from the Highland Room speakers - then it was on the spot, up on your toes - head bobbing up & down legs kicking out in front of you. Fantastic period in mine & everybody else's life who loved the Mecca so much back then.
  16. Albert Finney & Granny Clampett (Beverly Hillbillies)
  17. Walk Away From Love - David Ruffin Never Can Say Goodbye - Jackson 5 Golden Lady - Stevie Wonder As - Stevie Wonder Pastime Paradise - Stevie Wonder....................... ................................... etc.etc.............................. there is hundreds !!!!!!
  18. One In A Million - Maxine Brown Heartaches Away My Boy - Christine Cooper
  19. I am happy to like both O'Jays has better harmonies whereas Metro's is a better dancer.
  20. Crossover is what Northern Soul fans listen to when they grow up (or old!!)
  21. All I can say about this tune is I quite like the sax break
  22. Think you'll find it's called "Bring Him Back" by Cissy Houston.
