  1. Only just got round to listening to this - really enjoyef it - good work Pete. Good to see that The Gaturs hasn't been forgotten - brilliant tune !!!
  2. When God gets his box open - he ALWAYS plays Maurice Williams - the best Soul record ever - FACT !!!!!!!!!!
  3. One Love - Celi Bee & The Buzzy Bunch (TK) Disco tune - spun by Ian Levine at Blackpool Mecca
  4. "Blowing Up My Mind" - The Exciters (RCA)
  5. Nice idea - provided you offer the same deal to the following :- The person you bought the flyers off. The person who hires you the venue - who in turn offers the same deal to the bar staff & the following days cleaner. The door staff (a brave person to try that !!!) The person who hires you the sound system. A DJ is part of the whole package of the night - pay them the fee agreed (as with all of the people above). If you can't afford it - don't promote !!!!
  6. Think this is the one you mean - there are a few mixes of it out there.
  7. Totally different cut of the brilliant "You'd Better Keep Her" on the album - longer & it does not have that "muddy" sound the 7 inch single posseses.
  8. The original release is on Brown Door (a rare piece) Kon-Kord is the re-issue.
  9. Johnny Ross & The Soul Explosion - "I Can't Help Myself" - 'twas massive back in the day !!!
  10. Permanent Vacation - Marion Sodd (Great record too !!)
  11. How about Bobby Womack ................... "Harry Hippie"............................I'll get me coat !!!!
  12. Northern Being Without You - Maurice Williams (The finest tune to ever hit vinyl - FACT !!) Sitting In My Class - Ronnie McNeir Gonna Be A Big Thing - Yum Yums On The "Modern" Side Dreaming A Dream - Crown Heights Affair (No other Disco tune comes close to this - perfection !!) If You & I Had Never Met - Magic Night Mainstring - Oscar Perry (Always sounded so "special" when played in The Highland Room) Last Hour Winners I'm Catching On - Betty Lloyd We're Gonna Make It Big - Don Gardner California Montage - Young Holt Unlimited (So many wonderful memories surround this tune for me)
  13. Too many gigs & not enough people to go round. Modern rooms are generally not as busy as Northern rooms at all-niters. Where promoters cut back on outlay - Room hire - DJs - Door Staff etc. you will find it is the modern room that will get "binned".
  14. The instrumental went down well at Lytham last week - far better than the "Manuel from Fawlty Towers Vocal Mix" !!!!!
  15. If you never went to The Mecca - how do you know if it was not as good as Wigan ?????? Myself I absolutely loved The Mecca - enjoyed Wigan as well - we were privliged back then to have both. Used to leave my house at 6.45 pm on a Saturday & arrive home about lunchtime Sunday after doing both venues - magic !!!!!
  16. Have followed this thread very closely & one question is burning away inside.................................what qualifies a person as an expert on socks ? or if you prefer Webby - Sox !!!!!
  17. Go on then - I'll swap it for Matt Munro !!!!!!
  18. I always put Ron Hall in the same bracket as "Lord" - Alexander O'Neal & "That's What Love Does" - Vince Montana - they seem to sit well together. There is still plenty of good modern soul dance music out there !!
  19. That is THE mix to have- just think of it as 6 Northern tunes all added together & enjoy !!!!!!
  20. Has been played on the Modern Soulful Dance scene since its release - an anthem of modern uptempo soul !!!
  21. Take it you will be wanting the 7 inch single - although the 12 is far better IMHO Some for sale here https://www.discogs.com/sell/list?release_id=641403&ev=rb
  22. That one was distributed by Sequel.
  23. WTF ??????????????????????? https://www.groovecollector.com/lpp/2/30/1/2450/isley-brothers-my-love-is-your-love-why-when-love-is-gone.html
