I think you will find that the only legit release of this is on Ace/Kent's stunning Lou Johnson CD Ady compiled a couple of years ago, certainly a track which Kent could put out on it's Select logo.
Mark Bicknell.
Never been played at OVO venues then ?
-
Why do some people find it acceptable to play a carver but would not play a track off a Kent CD of previously unissued material. Is it just a format thing ?
-
Quite. Or an eight page thread done for the umpteenth time on here! It's simple, if you're charging folk to get in, you must play ovo, otherwise you are ripping punters off. Carver's & such all fine & dandy, folk should know the score by now.
IMHO that is where the argument falls down carvers are the same as bootlegs !!!!

Got another dilemma more on the "Modern Scene" than any other......................playing from a laptop or downloads a lot of it going on from what I see
Should that be in another thread ????
Julie
If it wasn't for downloads there would not be a "modern" scene (in it's true sense ie current releases) - many many tunes never see the light of day on vinyl or cd - fortunately OVO is not a consideration on this scene but original downloads - now you're talking !

So nearly 3 pages on this & here is the conclusion that we always come to.............................
No..............................but if .....................................that's ok !!!!
Glad we are all agreed on that then !!!!
Just as an aside - Original, boot, reissue, emidisc, carver, CD, minidisc, USB stick, Traktor or laptop - what is the effect on your "dancing experience" when any of these mediums are played ?
-
Im going to play Friggin In The Riggin at our next do ....always wanted the Pistols to have a northern soul record
.............................it's a "step up" from Tony Blackburn !!!!!

Re Eurovisuin Entries
"Keep On Walking By" by Midnight which has had a few spins in recent years is the 'b' side to "Don't Bother To Knock" which was an entry in the UK heats of The Eurovision Song Contest entry in 1978.

Northern Soul is anything from Paul Anka & Benny Troy to Bobby Womack & Linda Jones.................... it's not "pure" but nevertheless has been enjoyed by many for over 40 years.
-
Wigan Casino putting on it's 1st "Oldies All Nighter" - the start of the "same old ,same old" tunes being played over & over.

Not a new genre really - quite a few "northern" tunes have been housed/jazzed/discofied in recent years courtesy of people like Pilooski, Al Kent, Bamboos etc.
-
Yeh but is that a live rcording or is it just the one bit live or dubbed on to the track, as the crowd are pretty quiet for the rest of the track ?? great track stll.
Yes it is genuinely live from his "Weekend In LA" album.

T
I'm pretty sure I remember the live version of "George Benson - On Broadway" getting a few spins back in the late 1970's/early 1980's
Des Parker
Think the "live" version is the only one that he cut to vinyl - didn't Dave Evison play it at Wigan ?
-
In the early 70s in the Blackpool area the local midweek soul nights used to play Major Lance "Ain't No Soul" off The Torch album & "The Ghetto" from Donny Hathaway Live was massive in clubs in & around The Fylde Coast - it packed floors too !!!

There was a version of The Exciters "Blowing Up My Mind" released on Contempo which was recorded later than the original RCA cut.

Whilst I applaud the ethics in this thread there is a part of me who says "you pays your money - you takes your choice".
The records sold on ebay may have been bought buy somebody who doesn't know or even care whether that piece of plastic they bought is original - if it gives them pleasure that is all that matters to them.
