  1. fantastic pairing, Marv an Tammi. two that gets to me are..... "If This World Were Mine" "Hold Me Oh My Darling" Steve
  2. Was gonna mention The Volumes mesell Mark! truelly outstanding, esp. with Eddie Union on lead! I kno he left before the Twirl, Impact an Inferno stuff but was bak late 60's for "Aint Gonna Give You Up" and was there for the Am Arts pair (ace tracks!) I got an Acapella cut by em "You Put a Spell On Me" and vocally... it's AWESOME! well it is in my humble... steve
  3. Three from me to end the night would be...................... Ray Paige "Don't Stop Now" Marcelino &Larson "Bittersweet" and finally.. HB Barnum "Gotta Go" Ray Paige an HB probs well known but "Bittersweet" probs not... stuck it on post in case anyone interested... Steve..... "sucker for them "beat ballads"
  4. Yup! LP only, of the fantastic "MPG" album. Wot do ya think of "Only A Lonely Man Would Know" and "It Dont Take Much To Keep Me" off the same LP? Steve
  5. Great tune there Billy Apart from the obvious, a couple of fav's of mine by Gene are "Such a pretty Thing" and "I'm Just A Fool for You" Steve
  6. If i come across another copy will giv ya a shout! Gotta mention the flip too, great version of Steve mancha's "Storyteller" that's wot I originally picked it up for, and was chuffed to bitz when i flipped it Steve
  7. gets a few plays here in the record room,Likes it a lot! Did it get much interest when spun? Must say tho, I prefer the stunning flip, an their version of the old Shondells hit.. "Crystal Blue Persuasion" mesell Steve
  8. Apart from the "tear Stained" soul lyrics of so many tunes, I love a lyric that tells a story from begining to end, for me a great example is the Teddy Randazzo tune "Reputation" recorded by Little Anthony on the flip of "Hurt So Bad" probs get it wrong typing it out, and ya need to hear the walking pace backing to appreciate it, so I've stuck the file on ere... Now this is 1st attempt so soz if I cock it up! Steve
  9. First time I've heard flip! wow! another fantastic tune IMO so.... a great double sider!.. so that halfs the price... bargain then! Thanx Chalky for posting the files up! Steve
  10. Marvin Gaye and his "MPG" album, With tunes like "It's A bitter Pill To Swallow" "Only A Lonely Man Would Know", "It Dont Take Much To Keep Me", "Try My True Love", "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby", "This Magic Moment". All good stuff IMO And the coolest sleve I ever saw, Marvin Pentz Gaye Steve
  11. Ooo! agree wid this un! apart from the ultimate "Someday" such top tunes as " I Dont Want To Lose Her", "I Cried For You" and the bestest version of " Aint No Big Thing".. all top tunes IMO Steve
  12. Talkin bout Ronnie Milsap, anyone else rate his other Scepter outing "When It Comes To my Baby" a great Ashford and Simpson tune.. love it mesell... bin playin it a bit ov late. Steve
  13. IMO it IS overated, the man done some ace stuff, but I'd have "Because Of You" way down the list! Steve
  14. Gone for "dont want me no more" Ultimate Northern IMO! Mind missin from list is in my view is his most soulful.... an thats "I" flip ov "Aint No Soul" Love it! steve
  15. Agree wid ya Billy, I too think Northern has "grown up and changed" but I've felt this was driven be the need to find new tunes. delving further back into the "birth of soul". It's important to me now, and that's why I can embrace tunes like "I Cant Stand It" The Seminoles, "In Between Tears" Lenny Miles, "With All Thats In Me" Marv Johnson, Somebody Elses Sweetheart" The Wanderers, "Kidnapper" Jewel & the Rubies, and the like. Once over, my blinkered view of soul would never let me do that. Think 1st issue of 5 Royales on Home Of Blues was from either 1960 or '61. Steve
  16. Am gonna pick Ronnie Milsap, but I love the Major just as much! was thinkin bout Ray Paige's effort!... just picked this up recently.. but it was for the stunning beat ballad ont flip "Dont Stop Now" slurp! Beat Ballads are like tits to me!..... am a sucker for em both! Steve "these old laces that took me places........ they just wont tie!"
  17. Hey! these sheep! I know them! real soulful crew from Cumbria... I mean just look at their feet... covered in talc steve "Never made a U turn, but I can sure make her eyes water!"
  18. Without doubt it's Marvin for me. I never heard his version before! Is it from an LP or unissued? am pretty sure Marvin could sing a shopping list an make it sound soulful! thanx for posting this Craig! excellent tune to start the day wid! Steve
  19. Gotta agree here! IMO Edwin's is a much better production, The intro is one of my top intros of all time. As an aside do ya think Doni Burdick had his eyes set on the British soul scene? judging by his output! Steve
  20. Hmm! keepin me in suspense eh! ok I give in! I know it's a B side but wots it called? Take it its the Instrumental then? is that right? thanx Steve
  21. Cheers Ady, wud love to know what the alternative flip is!... any idea anyone? Steve
  22. Love the Wilson Pickett track... great early sounding moover by the man. Dont know any ov the rest.. is Shirley Mattews the same lass as The Big Town Girls on Atlantic. "Count On That"? Steve
