  1. Reak it's "On The Avenue" aka "In The Neighborhood" Ist time I seen it was on a Jobete Acetate a mate had up here, was uncredited, but think on "Cellarful Of Motown" they had it down to Jimmy Ruffin... might be wrong tho! steve
  2. The wealth of quality within the Gordy empire during the 60's amazes me still, Motown 'B' sides have provided me with many favorites over the years. A few I don't think already mentioned include............ "Just Too Much To Hope For" ("This Old Heart Of Mine") Tammi Terrell "Hold Me Oh My Darling" ("Cant Believe Yo Love Me") Tammi Terrell "Baby Dontcha Worry" (" Come On And See Me") Tammi Terrell "I've Got To Find It" ("You Made Me So Very Happy") Brenda Holloway "Ill Be Available" ("Operator") Brenda Holloway "Save Me" ("Come Round Here") The Miracles "Happy Landing" ("You Really Got A Hold On Me") Miracles "Your Cheating Way" ("Danger Heartbreak Ahead") Marvelettes "I Want A Guy" ("Twistin Postman") Marvelettes "Goddess Of Love" ("He's A Good Guy") Marvelettes "Keep Off No Trespassing" ("Here I Am Baby") Marvelettes "All Because I Love You" (" Behind A Painted Smile") Isley Bros "Who Could Ever Doubt My Love" ("Take Some Time Out For Love") Isley Bros "One Way Out" ("Love Bug Leave My heart Alone") Vandellas "Without You" ("Sweet Darling") Vandellas "Another Train Coming" ("Just Loving You") Kim Weston "Blackmail" ("Oh I Been Blessed") Bobby Taylor "If You Love Her" ("I Am Your Man") Bobby Taylor "Wonderful Baby" ("If I Were A Carpenter") Four Tops "Since You Been Gone" ("Standing In Shadows Of Love") Four Tops "Dont Bring Back Memories" ("What Is A Man") Four Tops "Where Did You Go" ("Ask The Lonely") Four Tops "Hey Diddle Diddle" ("Little Darling") Marvin Gaye "It Hurt Me Too" ("Stubborn Kind of Fellow") Marvin Gaye "Taking My Time" ("Soldiers Plea") Marvin Gaye "When I Had Your Love" ("One More Heartache") Marvin Gaye "I Want You Round" ("What Good Am I Without You") Marvin & KIm "Everybody Needs Love" ("Ill Say Forever") Jimmy Ruffin "How Can I Say Im Sorry" (" As Long As There Is LOVE") Jimmy Ruffin "I Want Her Love" ("Dont You Miss Me A Little Bit Baby") Jimmy Ruffin "If My Heart Could Tell The Story" ("Way Over There") Edwin Starr "Stepping Closer To Your Heart" ("Just Walk In My Shoes") Gladys Knight "Im Giving You Your Freedom" ("Run Run Run") Supremes "Goin Down For The Third Time" ("Reflections") Supremes Steve
  3. Just place the 45 adapter over the record after you have centered it on a revolving deck, using the record arm as a guide (when it aint swaying, it's centered!) then with 45 adaptor placed over record you can draw round adaptor with fine point pen... then next time you wanna play it, position record on deck with adaptor lined up using mark on record... well it works with me!
  4. After discovering Del Shannon, he went on to launch some fantastic soul records with his Karen Carla and Moira labels! what a pity he hadn't had more daughters... we could have had more fantastic soul labels! Steve
  5. 20 years time!!!! think the scene will go back to being "underground" like it's birth... only this time... 6 feet underground! There just aint enough interest from todays youth to maintain the scene as it is. and to be honnest why should there be? They have their own music, their own scene. In my opinion the resurgence in the scene over the last decade or more, has been fueled by "returnees" (like myself) folks who have had kids grow up, have the proverbial "disposable" and the time to get out more and relive their youth. A point of interest Hippo made was with regard to the hyped prices asked for records!, as a collector I wont pay the ridiculous prices asked for what sometimes, is nothing more than "The Emporer's New Clothes". Today i might pull a record from the racks and think "So this is going for 500 quid now!" 20 years from now I might be pulling the same record, and think "Wonder what this sounds like?" Ah! Altziemers!!! I cant wait! think of all the new tunes am gonna hear! Steve
