  1. Talkin bout Dramatics "Bingo" Dave, I remember many moons ago when Arthur Robinson put me onto the flip in the early hours one morning at "The Bothy" the Oh so typically Ric-Tic'ish "Somewhere" what a cracking track! Wonder what Ed Wingate was up to on their first release calling the Dynamics? steve https://youtu.be/ChGHMaQQklY
  2. Agree Chalky, an amazing double sider on Sho-Me then Juana from the early 80's (not a lover of much 80's stuff myself, but both sides of this record are superb imho) sad news again! steve https://youtu.be/32YJY9C9g-c https://youtu.be/jxWqH1MJkRM
  3. Ha ha! far from an "exclusive" Bob, tis well known mate, but glad it's a new track for you (tis what this site is all about for me, sharing and discovering new tunes) And amidst the quality stuff you play on ya show, would fit well I'm sure. steve
  4. Pete sounds like opening lines to Act One on mercury to me mate, "Goodbye Love" the great flip to the dire Tom The Peeper steve
  5. for me, much as I love "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" (and have done since I first heard it on the radio) the flip, "Thankful For Your Love" has to be one of the finest moments The Dramatics had, amidst so many! Wee Gee never sounded better to me. Tony Hester yet again with the credits, and Johnny Allen's arrangement.... Sublime SOUL! (as an aside, Tony Hester should have been a giant in the music industry imho) steve https://youtu.be/sfBsgx4gSEc
  6. I'd take the Jameco over a green Carrie.... now if it had been an orange Carrie... that would be different! different takes as well i think? steve
  7. nice one Jocko, would that be at Shotts? steve
  8. stuff like that really getting me in the mood for Essence's back room! (the music of course!) looking forward to catching up Dave steve
  9. That "I Lost Someone" AWESOME! "propper" stuff Dave why ain't it on a nice little One-Der-Ful 45? steve
  10. Too true Mick! remember picking that lp up thinking there's gotta be another "I Can Feel Him Slipping Away" style track on it (being Don Costa too) but alas! nope! steve
  11. tis a cracker Dave so many great records by The Intruders on Gamble and later on TSOP, just loved Little Sonny's voice, so distinctive it was. Also what about the lovely balled on the flip? "Baby I'm So Lonely" (with more than a little nod to Mickey Stevenson and Ivy Hunter's "Ask The Lonely" in it's opening bars ) Always thought Mr Brown's vocal style excelled on this track. Another sadly no longer with us https://youtu.be/VoqVAsmIAMM steve
  12. Such powerful lyrics, best anti drug song I heard! Sam Dees excells again. here's the full lyrics for anyone interested, also the link to Sam's rendition. Well, now little man, you've grown tired of grass, L.S.D., Acid, cocaine, and hash. Somebody that's supposed to be your so called friend, said, "I'll introduce you to Miss Heroin." Well, honey, before you start fooling with me, Just let me inform you of how it will be. For I will seduce ya and make you my slave. I've sent men much stronger than you to their grave. You think you could not become a disgrace, and end up addicted to poppy seed waste. So, you'll start inhaling me one afternoon. You'll take me into your arm and very soon. And once I have entered deep down in your vein, The craving will nearly drive you insane. You'll need lots of money (as you have been told). For, darling, I'm much more expensive than gold. Signed Miss Heroin You'll swindle your Mama; and, just for a buck, you'll turn into something vile and corrupt. You'll mug, you'll steal for my narcotic charm. and feel contentment when I'm in you arms. The day you realize the monster you've grown, you'll solemnly promise to leave me alone. If you think that you've got the mystical knack. Then sweetie, just try getting me off you back. Signed Miss Heroin The vomit, the cramps, your gut tied in a knot. The jangling nerves screaming for just one more shot. The hot chills, cold sweat, the withdrawal pains, can only be saved by my little white grains. There's no other way, and there's no need to look. For deep down inside you, you will know that you're hooked. You'll desperately run to the pusher, and then You'll welcome me back to your arms once again. And when you return, just as I foretold! I know that you'll give me your body and soul. You'll give up your morals, your conscience, your heart, and you will be mine until Death Do Us Part. Signed Miss Heroin Say! you're holding the losing hand, and you just can't win. Smoking dope aint nothing but a sin. The faith in you, that they had in you brother! What will you do now? https://youtu.be/MYvQ6Wfsqzk steve
  13. Sam Dees "Signed Miss Heroin" steve
  14. £300!!! blimey! wouldn't have thought it was that hard Sean! that one that Pete posted is off me YT channel, sent it up a couple of years back. that one cost me a quid I think? (mind that was off Pete Ludlum back in the late 80's I think?) And agree, great version of Eddie Floyd on flip. Looking forward to a catch up at Essence Sean. Steve
  15. Excellent podcast, really enjoyed ya selections mate. Didn't know Darlettes track, had to get me one, I do love a bit of early Van McCoy steve
  16. Three early tracks I like to play are Flaminingos "I Know Better" https://youtu.be/pknJmW_B7Bg Wanderers "Somebody Elses's Sweet Heart" https://youtu.be/vaGjVpbL2AM Seminoles "I Can't Stand It" https://youtu.be/H4NW1kZm5qY steve
  17. Could be a conection! the writers on the Bee Kays disc (both sides) are credited to just GHK, which I take it is Gamble Huff and maybe Krause? playing both 45's their does seem a similarity in both. Are Bee Kays and Knights and Arthur both the same outfit?? steve
  18. Joan, there's always a download link for the shows over on the EMS forum, I'm sure a link will be posted here too? thought Cliff's records were outstanding today steve
  19. Alas indeed Dave, I love anything this man ever did! and "That's What You Do To Me" is one of (many) fav. double siders by the great man. just thought I'd stick the flip up too mate haunting and awesome, with Mike Terry's arrangement all over it. Deon Jackson "I Can't Do Without You" steve https://youtu.be/O_BLbF1AU9Q
  20. Going by the writing credits "Lewis Lewis & Farmer" I'd have thought Lee's was first version, as It's the same writing team on the flip "Time & Place" Lee's version is Jan. 1970 (acording to label). As for looking for different things in a record, that's the beauty of this music to me steve
  21. The other side of Robert Ward's "I Will Fear No Evil", and like so many mentioned actually the A side "My Love Is Strictly Reserved For You" steve https://youtu.be/E5siRURxat0
  22. Cheers for that Bob, didn't know that version (same backing?) think I'd stay with Lee Moses myself, just love his voice But I'll certainly be picking up The Chosen Few record! steve
  23. Well done Dave, your site is an invaluable reference, and is a credit to you steve
  24. the other side of Lee Moses "Time And Place" current big fav of mine "I Can't Take No More Chances" steve https://youtu.be/n1BByGX2Doc
