  1. Bob, the next issue on the label 1802 (Ernie Hines - Elactrified Love) is Stax dist. so, don't know 'bout "Stripe Productions" but this Temprees release I guess, is only one not Stax dist. ?? don't know how the address "Pinecrest" relates to Stax's normal "North Avalon" in Memphis, if at all?? not got an issue of Temprees to see if address is different only the demo that I posted in this thread of my youtube upload. steve steve
  2. brilliant footage Mick! first time I seen Maurice McAlister singing brill post mate! steve
  3. yup another cracker Brian, and one I'd have thought just right for today too! as a side note, I love the deep flip too "Please Don't Desert Me Baby" steve
  4. yeah same here that greeny SS7 label is a 70's reissue! As has been said by Mark, Mick and yerself... a brilliant track, one of Joe Simon's best for me steve
  5. Martyn, a great double sider mate, tother side "When Love Goes Wrong" is a great jazz edged Northern dancer imo. steve
  6. Classic as ya say Andy! and the flip ain't too shabby either mate steve
  7. Know what you mean regarding Lou's caberet stuff Brian! but with David Axelrod at the healm, Lou had some great 45's at Capitol. Can think of "Dead End Street", "When Love Goes Wrong", Show Business", Love Is A Hurting Thing", "The House Next Door", "You Can Bring Me All Your Heartaches" to name a few, and a few of his Philly Int. tracks too! though again at Philly there was always that "caberet" feel too! steve
  8. Walking Proud... great track! I've got that EP, a few years back I came across this and thought what a great track. In my ignorance thought it would be totally unknown, great to see it got played back in 1970.. just goes to show Brian, you can only say something is "unknown" to yourself! Have looked for a 45 single release on this, didn't know it came out in Germany, thanx for that. steve
  9. Here's a great crossover track from 1969, a "Vietnam" song no less! Although not credited on the label, I believe that HB Barnum was involved with the arrangement? Jimmie Ellis - "Happy To Be" https://youtu.be/Q6Q4lRdJrp0 steve
  10. nice one! agree, He's looking in great shape, love the man's 60's beat ballads! steve
  11. Always really rated this version Martyn, ya know Tony Bruno, who co-wrote and produced this track (under his other writing name "A Puglisi) wasn't aware that it had been done later by George Smith? and his name was also missing from the credits!) In the 60's Tony Bruno had one name for ASCAP published tunes (Puglisi, his real name) and one for BMI (Bruno) ... useless info I know LOL. Got a lot of respect for Tony Bruno and his 60's work (love his own beat ballads too) I mean, anyone who had a hand in writing Marie Knight's "That's No Way To Treat A Girl" is ok by me! steve
  12. looking at the 45 for Maxine the writer is Tony Webster. Maxine's version is on the flip of her great "I Want Sunday Back Again" in case you looking for a copy. hth steve
  13. Didn't know Teddy was responsible for "You Gotta Let Go" cheers for that! Regarding "Salty Tears" yeah! how could I have forgotten to include that! Teddy originally cut it on Mara Lynn Brown in 1972 on Laurie records, I know he didn't produce the Thelma Jones take a few years later, but the Thelma Jones version is the one for me, she just nails them great lyrics perfectly. The Mara Lynn version is good.... but just not as good! The man was KING of the beat ballads for me. another great track I forgot to mention was Little Anthony's version of "Get Out Of My Life" Also whilst at DCP Teddy was responsible for the arangements of Kenny Seymour's 2 outings with The Impacts "Just Because" and "Wishing Well" steve
  14. BIG fan of Teddy Randazzo's stuff myself would add these to the ones you've listed.... Derek Martin's - "Sly Girl", - "You Better Go", - "Bumper To Bumper" Gayle Harris - "Ain't Gonna Let It get me Down" Kiki Dee - "On A Magic Carpet Ride" Little Anthony - "Call Me The Joker", - "It's Not The Same", - "Reputation" Porgy & The Monarchs - "That Girl", - "If It's For Real" Royalettes - "Out Of Sight Out Of My Mind", - "When Summer's Gone" Timi Yuro - "Big Mistake", - "Can't Stop Running Away" ...and of course his own two... "You Dont Need A Heart" and "You're Not That Girl Anymore! steve
  15. Another great double sider, this one on We Produce is before the Stax dist. stuff, Is this their first 45? One side sweet and one side great crossover imo https://youtu.be/2dk0cbnkXxY https://youtu.be/BFIFZG1fTBA steve
  16. not on all the copies though Pete. I know mine plays "Here She Comes" (as I believe most do?) "I Won't Cry Anymore" is a great side, I used to think it was LP only for a long time steve
  17. Yeah, record labels would try and hoodwink the radio station producers back then into thinking their record was fitting of the "two minute thirty" rule that a lot of stations went for to try and fit their fast flowing concept! Regarding the co-writer Tony May, often overlooked and under rated writer and producer from back then. The man who gave us Bessie Banks "I Can't Make It" and Geminis "Can't Let You Go" (also wrote under the name "A Cotto") I've seen his name in credits on a few Randazzo things. Tony moved into the engineering side of the business. steve
  18. sorry mate but the words "Spyder Turner" and "defo down at the bottom" should never appear in the same sentence! as Bob said this track was talked about very recently, and I kinda agree with Bob the Dontells version has to be up there as one of the best versions of a tune that to be honest would be hard to do a poor version of! all "imho" of course. steve
  19. Fantastic 2 hours of music Sean & Tats! well done lads, an education in Just Soul steve & tina
  20. mornin Dave, hope ya both well mate, we looking forward to it! great little taster of tunes from the lads this mornin' Excellent stuff! steve & tina
  21. just settling in for what will be a great 2 hours of just soul music. Sean, should be sorted for 24th mate, coming down with the wakey's steve
  22. different font and title to my copy Ruben, mine is "With Out You" this disc to me with "Would I Do It Over" is one of the best things on the label, I've asked many times, but would love to more about The Ultimations, I find it hard to believe that a group of this quality would have only one 45 release??? https://youtu.be/RNmqWzBAuVg steve
