Why's This So Expensive?
Oxfam and many of the other charities now enlist the services of vinyl experts to look at any records they have had donated and have been listing them for a while. As part of her job my sister oversees a charity book shop but soemtimes they get people asking if they will take vinyl if she thinks it is worth looking at and not just junk they get it valued and on to ebay...............for some reason she doesn't let me any where near it. Wigan-why Can People Not Move On
I have to agree with you, I went from late 73 till I moved to London early 76, and felt it was on a slippery slope even that early on and never once did I feel I was missing anything or the yearning to travel back there. I do feel privileged to of been part of the very early days but certainly do not regret moving on from it and experiencing other music such as punk, punk may not of been to everyone's liking but it certainly gave the record industry the kick up the pants it needed in the mid to late 70s and as it moved on as a scene it seem to merge with the mod scene with the likes of the Jam/Alarm etc which comes full circle back to soul in some ways. Wigan was great in the early years but from what I can see and I hear it just became a money venture for a few people who thought they owned the Soul Scene, I am glad I stopped going when I did as I may of become as cynical as others instead I just feel lucky that I was there in the best years QoFxx

Wigan-why Can People Not Move On
Wash your mouth out young woman, I sold my soul to Punk in about 1977 after spending a couple of years in London with people who were in the music business and introduced me to it...........Siouxsie Sioux has a lot to answer for. When I got back from London I helped promote a local punk band who went on to grerater things, one of them I am now doing some promting work with at the moment. The punk years were as much fun as the early wigan years but in a totally different way. Until I came "home" to soul I sort of wandered in the wilderness of music from about 1982 across all genres except for that Duran Duran Ultravox type stuff. I never went back to Wigan after I moved to London the first time in about 76, and to be honest never really felt I was missing anything, always thought I had experienced the best years. QoFxx

Did You Clench Your Fist And Say "geddin There You Beauty!"
This happened to me on Sunday night. Have been looking for a record at the right price for some time, got a PM on sunday night telling me that someone had it on their sales list. Couldn't wait to get on the phone on Monday morning to secure it. Was shaking with excitement all day, still walking around on a high. Can you imagine how I will be when it actually drops through the letter box. Then last night I was browsing a sales list on SS and came across another one I have had trouble finding. Then today a record box I have been waiting for from the states arrived Think it will be about christmas before my feet hit the floor at this rate Note to self..............................Get out more QoFxx

Help Wanted In Search For Promoter
Have to agree with you Bridget Great someone new posts, admits to knowing not much about NS and just because they mention wigan, which to be honest is what most people on the outside relate to the scene, people start taking this piss. Great welcome isn't it. Pete is right here, take the emphasis off Wigan and concentrate on Northern Soul. There are some great promoters in and around the Manchester areas who if couldn't help you themselves, I am sure would point you in the right direction. Try sending a PM to little-stevie or Paul Sadot, not sure of his exact name on soul source but someone will let you know, and I am sure one of them will be able to point you in the right direction. Whos Gunna Carry The Soul Scene On?
This must be umptieth thread on this topic in the last year and I for one am getting very bored with it , Will people stop writing us older peeps off, hopefull we have a good few years left yet and there an loads of people on the scene in the 30-40 age group who have another 20-30 years and they will slowly be replaced by younger people and so it goes on. To be honest in 1973 -1975 how many of us thought the scene would still be as strong as it is now in 2007. I am getting very p*ssed at some of the younger soulies (14-35) thinking they are the saviours of the scene and they have a god given right to it and we should be changing to suit them. The scene has naturally evolved to where it is now over at least 40 years or more and it will keep on evolving as the younger people replace us, so lets just have natural progression and stop winging and moaning about it and enjoy Don't get me wrong, I love to see new young people on the scene (16-25) and some of the people I see also as young (30-40s) leading the way forward now with great passion and knowledge but it is not something they have achieved over night. I have loved experiencing the changes over the last 33 years I have been about but by pushing change you could kill it. Your time will come leave it to grow and evolve natuarally through time as it always has done. OK rant over QoFxx
