  1. Why didn't you just check before you accepted. It seems to me that some people need to learn the art of communication...."IT'S GOOD TO TALK". Not all the promoters in the areas our spreadsheet cover see eye to eye, but having one person who is not a promoter or a DJ (ME) and is totally impartial pulling it together we seem to avoid major clashes. As I said before we also list other key dates where we know people in our area are likely to travel to i.e. 100 club, Rugby All nighters, Rayleigh, Prestatyn, Solid Hit Soul and Cleethorpes. there are some nights not included in our lists but that is down to the promoters. Requests for dates for the are posted on here ongoing from about September the previous year so its up to the promotors to contact us if they want to be included and regular updates are circulated through a mailing list. With the one small night that I am involved in, Blue Skies in London we don't have a regular date, just wait and find a gap in the calendar when we feel none of our punters will be else where, book it, but this is more of a get together than a full on soul night, mind you the quality of the DJs and music is top notch and would be difficult to match for this type of small night. We purposley did not want to go up against any one but just fill a gap on the odd Friday night when we knew like minded people had nothing else on. Its all about soul night complementing each other and not competing. I always find the new nights start up against established ones when would be DJs think they can do better and very seldom do they achieve this. QoFxx
  2. AT work at mo so a bit difficult to trawl through them all, any cheapies you can think of to tempt a 60ts girlie fan like me. QoFxx
  3. I would say, find a free night when there is nothing else on within 50 miles. If you are looking at genre, most smaller nights are one room so tend to be across the board so if you start up say an oldies or modern night you may clash with another across the board night even if you think you are providing something different. Within our area we work together circulating dates as soon as available to avoid any major clashes, which thankfully for 2008 we have managed to do this without any major clashes taking into consideration weekenders, 100 club etc. We start collecting dates in about Sept/Oct for the follwoing year. The other key, IMHO is not to run to many i.e. every first firday in the month etc because you will always clash with something at some point. Most in our area keep them down to 4-6 a year depending on available dates. Its all about working together. QoFxx
  4. Brilliant track, play it often QoFxx
  5. I will confirm this, Steve has banned me from playing HSJ when he is about and I don't even put it in my play box anymore just in case he fancies a game of frisbie It has been relegated to "red label" in my colour coded system which stands for "pure girlie 60s pop and DONT EVEN GO THERE!!!!!!!!! " QoFxx
  6. I know what you mean but at least you can dance to Friday Brown QoFxx
  7. My comment was a little tongue in cheek, I am a great lover of 60s girlie pop, but see it for what it is and now and again when I think it will work I will slip one or two into my spot, some of the reocrds I class as girlie 60s pop some people herald as great soul records so I feel its ok to play the odd one or two i.e. Friday Brown, Peggy March, Barbara Mills - (Take your time not QOF), Joey Heatherton, and the odd Dusty track etc etc Most people I know, know that 60s girlie pop is my thing and Its just a bit of an in joke and I appologise for that QoFxx
  8. ahhh bless, I never knew you cared QoFxx
  9. Carol Fredricks - I Couldn't Care Less QoFxx
  10. This happened to me last night, there I was quietly having a good time as always at Blue Skies with great mates and great music when Jon Downs played Liz Verdi - You let him get away, I thought I had died and gone to heaven, I will show my ignorance here I had never heard this before and it blew me away, today I listened to the B side and just as awesome.......guess what is top of my wants list QoFxx
  11. There was a DUffy thread running somewhere a few weeks ago. Great track The girls got talent QoFxx
  12. Sorry Dave forgot that one, but would only play the B side, apart from on a very rare occasion when the QOF is expected of me QoFxx
  13. I don't own nor would play any of the above you have mentioned but there are one or two I would play that I actually class as 60s soul/pop crossover that I would. i.e. Peggy March, Friday Brown, Joey Heatherton, Dusty. Any of my other 60s girlie stuff stays safely out of reach of the public as I don't think that the majority of them should be played. So I am in both camps on this one, yes I like it but nooo most of it should not be heard at a soul night. So there QoFxx
  14. and sometimes who plays it..................... QoFxx
  15. I just play it and sod em all I think they have come to expect a little of 60ts girlie pop/soul from me at Blue Skies and would be suprised if I didn't play any. Both the above are great tracks and should be played but unfortunately not in my collection YET!!!!. QoFxx
  16. 60s girlie stuff is my thing predominantly soul but other stuff as well, and I rate her up there with the likes of Dusty but as you say, with better choice of songs whe would of been so much bigger than she actually was. An amazing voice. QoFxx
  17. At the Top of the Stairs - The Formations Blowing My Mind To Pieces - Bob Relf Bok to Back - Fathers Angels Queen Of Fools _ Barbra Mills to name just a few more..............brain ain't working too well tonight QoFxx
  18. I think its a great 60s pop record and but as you say not a soul record and love to hear it played at the right time and in the right place which is not a soul night. I am a big advocate of 60s girlie pop and this is up there in that context with some of the best. QoFxx
  19. Crossover maybe QMPxx
  20. Simon you just aint getting it . Just cos it's girlie vocals doesn't mean that it fits the Mamsey Pamsey label, Mamsey Pamsey has to have soul and tends to be mid tempo. i.e. Terri Bryant - Geni, Ch Chi - If your gonna love me, Halos - Just Keep on Loving Me, Maxine Brown - Seems You've Foresaken My Love, Fontella Bass - I can't rest, Darlettes - Lost, Honey Cone - The Day I Found Myself, Dusty Springfield - What's it Gonna Be, etc etc etc. I must admit I hadn't heard for years when I posted earlier but now after listening again I rate this as 60s girlie pop, and would not play it at a soul night but from a 60s pop angle I think its ok and slightly better than 9 times. So the official rating from me and Bearsy, cos he looks up to me as the font of knowledge of all things Mamsey Pamsey, is its 60s girlie pop (which I quite like in the right place at the right time) and not Mamsey Pamsey.........so there QoFxx
  21. It is very much as Mamsey Pamsey (girlie) record but I just couldn't resist a pop back at Si the Disco Bunny (private joke). I do quite like it but on a more serious note to me it it more of a £30-40er and wouldn't be prepared to pay much more than that at the moment. QoFxx
  22. Not a favoirtie of mine, OK but not worth that sort of money, maybe a tenner You still haven't quite got the hang of the Mamsey Pamsey thing have you QoFxx

I'd rather you told me where I could pick up a copy of Carol Fredricks for a tenner On a more serious note James, you said in your reply to me that money wasn't the point it was the quality of the tune, well that may be so in your case but I think the record is ok but IF I had £2500 free to spend on vinyl this wouldn't be my first choice as there are other records I prefer..............just down to personal choice, no probs with anyone spending vast amounts of cash on records they like. QoFxx
