  1. Pottsy I don't really want to say any more on the subject. You are on my mailing list and the 3rd of September was on the calendar sent out in November 2010. If you don't bother to read it, that is my point on why I am going to stop with the calendar which was set up 6 years ago to avoid things like this. I do not want to fall out with you and certainly have no problem with Geoff or Hammie. Your digs about what sort of music we would be playing was totally out of order and an insult to some of the best DJs around some of the comments you made on your thread were an obvious dig at my event. Anyone who reads your Stewartby thread and yiour post made 2 days before my event can put 2 + 2 together and make up their own minds if this was a blatent dig or not. Lets all just move on from this and so you know well in advance, my date for next year is 1st September. QoFxx
  2. I'm not down Geoff, in fact quite the opposite, last night was great. Somebody asked me why I start sdo early..........my answer is because it means that I get great people like you DJing for me if I didn't start till 8 how could fit in such a fantastic line up. It's an honour to have you all there every year. Bring on next year, already in the planning and the date will be................. Saturday 1st September So put it in your diary QoFxx
  3. As some of you know, for the last 6 years I have kept a calendar of dates for the Beds, Herts and London and the South East. This was started to avoid clashes wherever possible and has worked well for a number of years. However the irony is, that after putting this calendar out on Soul Source, Face Book and through my own mailing list, it seems that a certain promoter takes no notice and I feel that recently my efforts have been in vain. The date for my annual charity event was circulated back in November 2010, and been on Soul Source since March and still a local promoter, who is on my mailing list, put a night on the same date splitting the local crowd. Clashing on purpose is not big and it's not clever and then blatently insulting my DJs on his onwn thread is just childish. I wouldn't mind but I have plugged his event on my face book group in the past for him and ensured that it always got a mention on Sean Chapman's radio show along with any other local events. To infer that the likes of Ted Massey, John Weston, Steve Gaurnori, Woody, Steve Clarke, Bearsy, Lou, Kev Draper and a few more would be playing chin stroking, obscure mid tempo dross is an insult to some of the best DJs around. I really don't care what people say about my sets as I am not a DJ but dust off the vinyl every now and again for a bit of fun but it hurts when someone is prepared to insult the DJs that have kindly travelled half way around the country and given their service for nothing. Well we may not of had the numbers last night but we certainly had the quality of toonage and raised around £400 TBC. I will no longer be putting together the calendar but will keep the group page open on Face Book and will plug any events I feel are worth plugging. So thank you and good night. QoFxx
  4. The dreaded reptile ................ the lyrics are just so wrong and Johnny on The spot just think it's crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!! QoFxx PS and I am with Pete Smith on the Carstairs
  5. I know but I can't afford it till middle of next month and need it for the 3rd for my do, so I will just have to go without it this year. Mind you it would be good, if even just to upset bearsy QoFxx
  6. It was I beleive, the last record of the night so is that such a big deal, had he played it smack bang in the middle of his set even I would of questioned it. There were plenty dancing to it at Wellingborough. Many of us older folks started our soul journey via the skinhead scene, for me in about 1971/2 and SKA was as much part of our music as motown was. 7. Not a big fan of instrumental, my feet don't work if I cant sing to it I wasn't really knocking it, I dont care if the odd ska track is put on at the end of the night, I don't moan about modern soul being played and I don't even like much of it so people shouldn't moan about 2 1/5 mins at the end of what, knowing Sean, was a floor filling set and didn'[t the original poster say he was suprised to see people dancing to it....................I think there's your answer most people don't mind it's just the odd chin stroker or oldies fan that gets uptight. QoFxx
  8. Will be on the Tudno Soul train. Will be good to hear you all again, have missed quite a few recently as been working away a lot. QoFxx
  9. Got no one to play it at my do this year as I haven't managed to get myself a copy yet QoFxx
  10. Spot on Dean, as always, and what the hell is the beef. Sean played one track at the end of an hours set, its not like he played it for a full hour, get over it, I like Dean am not a fan of modern but endure full hour sets and don't complain, there is room for a little diversity on the scene, how many modern rooms now adays play quite a large amount of latin since when was that true northern soul some of it is more suited to a salsa bar. Stephanie McKay is an awesome track. Loved it ever since I first heard Kris Tebbutt play it at my charity do a couple of years ago. Go Go Children, Deans do, in Bristol is one of my favourite nights in the country purely beacuse it is a little off the wall and pushes the bounderies a little QoFxx
  11. Probably because Al Capone was average and Stepanie McKay is a fantastic track, I have been raving about it for about 2 years, Filled the floor at the Wellingborough Alldayer as the last record as well. QoFxx

  21. A tribute will be really appreiated Russ, unfortunately I wont be able to be there but I am sure you guys will do the Big Man proud. Hammie played the Valantinos "Sweeter" as a memory of Trev tonight at Esquires which really got to me, although I didn't know him for long he was an all round great guy and he made Mandy very happy. 22. Was going to read this thread but then thought " cant be arsed" same old pro/anti wigan comments The years I went 73-75 ( what happened after that I can't comment on) gave me my love of the music and the scene but It brought other types of music within our radar. To me it was just a place to go after work on a saturday night to hear fantastic music. To be honest I have heard far better music in the last 7 years I have been back on the scene than I did in those 2 years. But no I don't think it killed it. It kept it alive to many people who have stayed on the scene for all these years because of it we have got to listen and dance to many of the fantastic discoveries that they have made since and keeping them on the scene passionatley discovering new stuff for us to listen and dance to. QoFxx
  23. If anyone wishes to attend the funeral, please can you contact me via PM for full details. Chrissie
