Lowest price on popsike is £21 sold this year, highest price is £65. I paid about £25 which I think is fair but It took some finding on a 7. Another track which is listed really low and is really hard to find on a 7 is Laura Lee's 'Your Song' on Fantasy. I had a search on ebay for 4 years before I got a VG copy for £10! I suppose it was the 12 that sold in numbers. With quality 7t's tunes like this and Randy Brown I suppose alot may be in collections.

Is Playing A Boot At A Venue Ever Acceptable
Matt replied to Dave West's topic in All About the SOUL
No- If a job's worth doing it's worth doing well!!! Plenty of great originals at low prices if cost is an issue! The people who pay on the door deserve to hear original recordings! -

Get well soon , Keith, hope to see you at a venue soon- ktf

I bought a Vernon Harrell 'Slick Chick' (Lescay) single off of Francoise Ferlin (Thompson) on the 11th August. I received good communication and received the single in good time. The item was well packaged. I haven't left feedback as I haven't a clue how you do it on Soul source! I hope this clears up the matter as I found the seller good to deal with. I hope the problem can be sorted out between 'soulsunny' and 'thompson' -
Top draw Neil- received my book the other day! well worth a look - totally recommended to anyone who hasn't yet seen a copy!

I have one but I will never sell it as it's such a great record. I always remember Johnny Rolfe at the Hilsea soul nites having one for sale in his box for £300 and this was in the mid eighties, at the time I didn't buy it. It took me a long time to find another copy as Johnny had sold his, which I paid £250 for but it's not mint, I'd say Excellent minus. I bought this in about 2000 and since have never seen many go through the auctions.

Have you still got the Vernon Harrell, Slick Chick for sale- if so how much? all the best from Matt -
Most of the time if you have a Manship's bootleg guide you can suss out if it's a boot or not. If i'm unsure I'll ask the seller and if they are dishonest you can send the item back and get a refund or if not report the seller to ebay. I've bought boots in the past to have the sound to play at home or put on a CD for my own enjoyment, never to play out at a venue in a spot. However recently I've been to a few venues where boots have been played and in large halls they often sound terrible! I'm not gonna mention names of Dj's etc but I wish they'd just play cheaper originals if they can't afford the real deal. I'd much prefer to hear a copy of the Dells 'Make Sure' than a booted copy of a track like Lou Pride , Salvadors etc. ktf

The joy of collecting records is in getting the bargain and searching through loads of tunes to achieve this. We've all been there in record shops, at boot sales or at the village fete! On ebay it's really hard to get big bargains as we're all chasing that elusive tune! I think it's sad what Vince has expierienced as he had the bargain and now it's being taken from him! I can understand the guy has made an error in selling it but that's the way it is sometimes, you can't win them all! ktf and please don't go to the same bootsales I do! lol

Funny I was chatting to Woody about it at Mick Lloyds last Worcester do and he told me the story of how he bought it- you have both great taste and I look forward to hearing it out soon- try to hear his spot next Friday in Worcester- all the best and ktf

One's just gone through ebay- rare old tune- great sound!

It's in my top 5 and I've been looking for one for ages, it brings back happy memories from the 8t's when Gary Spencer used to play it I think, my mind is a little mushy now so I may be wrong! Anyway at that time I bought a boot of the record which I think is still rare. I know a few people who have the record on Southern Artists but the Bell copy is more desireable. This copy went for too much in my opinion but the book price is low considering its rarity to other records. I will still look out for the original on either label as I think it's a tremendous tune. It's great to read all these comments on the record and that not all are tastes are the same!

Been after one of these for years! top tune! after you have one can I be the next in line!

I agree with all that has been said- the main thing is time as this is the most valuble thing you can give anything! By having help from others you probably won't get as much in money terms but you will be free to use your time as you please. Some people love the social thing of selling tunes if that's your bag then do it yourself, if not get the pro's in!

I would like the Hytones if you still have it- I can paypal you or let me know- all the best from Matt

Used to love these nites run by Johnny & Beccy Rolfe- the weekend certainly started here. I'll always be thankful for Mr & Mrs Rolfe for letting me play a few tunes to start the nites off and for some of the tunes Johnny sold me over the years on the way in! I met loads of friends for the very first time at this venue , too many to name just now but they know who they are- a great social occasion with a wide spread of tunes thrown in!

My first allnighter, I often would ride over on my scooter after going out in Bristol to Racquels by the ice rink. Great mix of tunes played there, got me into so many different tunes of the time, always remember everybody shuffling to the likes of Cheryl Berdell etc and Dennis Lee winning the dance comp! great to see so many of the old crowd still going to soul nites up and down our wonderful land! Andy Hutchins, Steve Green, Chris Harvey and myself put on a all dayer at the Bath's Yate in the late 8t's (maybe early 9t's my minds going!)- remember some of the Dj's from the night i.e Dave Thorley, Gary Spencer, Edwin (Blackwood), ourselves etc- sorry too long ago to remember everyone- happy times.

I'm not a great lover of funk however now and again I hear a tune which will make me want to dance. I don't mind hearing different gendres on the scene as long as they are good and worth listening to. I think for many years the scene has gone in different directions to keep the numbers coming through the doors, I'd hate the scene to die all together and if it helps then carry on.
