  1. Brilliant track - but sorry my original post didn't make it clear that I was looking for tracks that have never appeared on an official 45. I've amended original post.
  2. In the best Moments record thread Still Diggin reminded me how good this Alicia Keys clip is - absolutely spellbinding
  3. Not On The Outside is just sublime
  4. If there was just the one track (that has never appeared on an official 45) that you would like to have an official 45 release which one would it be? I know we could all list loads of potentials but rather than this being a test of your knowledge please pick the one that means the most to you. The one for me is “I Have No Choice” credited on a Kent cd to Audrey Matthews (but apparently denied by her and also Sharon McMahon). Anyway whoever is singing it, is there any chance that the guys at Kent can get it out on a 45?
  5. I should probably have put this one by Gents And The Lady in the Low Rider Scene Thread but for some reason that thread takes ages to open for me.
  6. I would guess that the original post is asking for a "soundalike" to the general public rather than to us anoraks. I've always thought 123 had that Motown feel although I couldn't pin it to a specific record, and this extract from a John Madara interview shows that Mr Gordy also thought it sounded like a Motown Record. In an interview with Forgotten Hits, Madara explained: "In 1965, with '1-2-3' being the #1 record in the country, we were sued by Motown during the period when Berry Gordy was suing anyone whose records sounded like a Motown record. We were sued, saying that '1-2-3' was taken from a B-Side of a Supremes record called 'Ask Any Girl.' The only similarity between the two songs are the first three notes where the Supremes sang 'Ask Any Girl' and Lenny sang '1-2-3.' After that, there were no similarities, but their lawsuit said that our goal was to copy the Motown sound. Well, needless to say, Motown kept us in court, tying up all of our writers' royalties, production royalties and publishing royalties, and threatened to sue us on the follow-up to '1-2-3,' which was 'Like A Baby.' So after battling with them for two years and having a ton of legal bills, we made a settlement with Motown, giving them 15% of the writers' and publishers' share.
  7. One that springs to mind is Len Barry 123
  8. There are some of these for sale in Discogs
  9. I've been playing this one by Smoked Sugar a lot lately
  10. Last bump on this one guys - your help would be much appreciated
  11. Last one on ebay in March last year was $169 for a VG++ copy so maybe £200 is a bit high. Suppose it depends whether you are buying or selling lol
  12. I didn't think we were meant to make comments about the price on sales posts?
  13. No this doesn't sound like Al Kent
  14. I love this one by the Sweethearts - an early girl thing that reminds me of a Mary Wells track (which I can't think of now) Bad news is that the only one I can find on youtube is slowed down slightly - I wish they'd stop doing that!!
  15. I'm not too sure about this Dave. It's not the type I'd normally go for but I can see the appeal of it and how it could get played at certain venues. It may be one of those that hits me in the future lol. I'm planning to post some sounds on you tube soon (once I can figure out how to do it) so I'll deffo load this one. Thanks for the Witches tip though lol.
  16. How much was Soulmasters listed for pls?
  17. BUMP - and 2 more added.
  18. Even though I'm in the ovo camp I think the music is much more important than our vinyl collections. I personally would love to see more nights that are youngster friendly and if that is on mp3 /cd then so be it. In fact if you think about it, it's a bit primitive to cart around a huge box of vinyl when you are only going to play 20 or so tracks. I might add that I would not be seen dead in such a place but I'd love to see the youngsters getting into the music and then (just as we did) seek out new sounds outwith the top 2/3/5 or whatever hundred sounds through visiting the ovo events. An added benefit of mp3 events (I'm thinking of THAT post from yesterday) would be that it would put the bootleggers out of business as the DJ's at these new events wouldn't need the vinyl.
  19. If you are in town this Saturday I'd recommend going to Blacktrackin' at Glasgow south side. This is only on once very 2 months and is well worth going to if you like across the board lesser known ovo.
  20. $39 + $10 shipping for a strong VG so it's not the end of the world if I'm disappointed.
  21. Well Dave based on the quality of the witches I've just bought this Columbians - I haven't bought blind for a good few years so I'll be holding you responsible lol if I don't like it
  22. Wow that is wonderful to someone who loves the girl sounds. I want one of these.
  23. I'm retiring in 6 weeks so this is my last attempt at these longstanding wants cos after then I can't justify collecting vinyl The Mansion - The Girl Next door - Gibbs Royal Chessmen - Begging You - Custom Fidelity Pages - Heartaches & Pain - Sunstruck Ster-Phonics - You Know I Love You - Mas-Tok Witches - She's Got You Now - Bang - now sorted Please pm with condition & price if you can help. Thanks Tony
  24. It is definitely the Whispers and it does sound more similar to the Dore version. There is an alternative version on the Northern Soul of Dore cds but as I haven't heard the cd I can't definitively say that the one on Youtube is indeed the Dore alt take but would assume it is.
