I'm selling all my records over the next 6 months apart from one box that holds about 60. Most of the ones I'm keeping are so cheap they are not really worth selling but out of the other ones the very last one to go would be Linda & The Pretenders "Believe Me"

Are you selling it? (PM sent yesterday)

the greatest NORTHERN soul artist of all time
Gointoagogo replied to Geeselad's topic in All About the SOUL
As mentioned it is so difficult to come up with a greatest NS artist and there are some pretty strong candidates suggested already. Given that I can only have the one "greatest" I would go for Smokey/Miracles. Not immediately identifiable as a NS artist as in the Major Lance / Lorraine Chandler mould but he did make, and wrote, some outstanding tracks that were played on the scene. Apart from that, his works are the ones I always go back to when I start getting a bit bored with the NS stuff. -
I like it - one of the top Northern tracks c/w a perfect deep sound.

Cooperettes & The Toppiks - Win All Your Love - Soul Junction
Gointoagogo commented on Chalky's article in News Archives
An absolutely brilliant track - I do prefer the Cooperettes version though. When I first heard it I got one of those wow feelings that used to be so common in back in the day but have been so occasional over the past couple of years. Can't wait till it drops thru the door next week! -
I'm sure we have had threads before about favourite double A sides and there are tons of great examples - there must be 100's on the Motown labels alone! A couple of favourites of mine and imho are in the "every home should have one" category are the Masqueraders I'm Just An Average Guy c/w I Ain't Gonna Stop and The Soul Majestics Missing You c/w I Done Told You Baby but what about those that should have been paired on the same record? - what would your perfect Double A side be? To kick off, mine would be a pairing of 2 Brief Encounter tracks - "Just A Little Notion" which was released on a 45 and "Where Will I Go" which was recorded round about the same time but was never released until much later. These two superb tracks sound to me as if they were recorded at the same session and would have made my perfect Double A.

Playlists - Horse and Groom, Doncaster - Chillout October 15th

Think I must fall into that category -or I've got dyslexia! I've liked their version of Never Be Over For Me since I first heard it about 20 years ago and since then I've always thought of them as THREE Midniters.

Playlists - Horse and Groom, Doncaster - Chillout August 13th
Gointoagogo replied to PS-Soul's topic in Soul Media
As usual another set of impressive playlists guys - what I love about the H&G....... There is always something different played - you hardly ever have DJ's playing the same tracks they played at previous event The mix between common/cheap and the rarities and the imaginative across the board selections Best of all - the DJ's have that essential (but sometimes elusive) quality for a DJ - fantastic taste! -
Yes to playlists from me too. Not that I get out much nowadays but when I visit family back in England I do like to get a nite (or an afternoon in) and knowing what type of music to expect is my main consideration. I do think that stating demo/issue/french etc next to the title is a bit too much though. Playlists linked to events listings might work but what I'd like to see in every event listing is a clear indication as to whether the event is OVO or not.

I'd forgotten just how good that sax break is on this oldie by the Appreciations. Well overdue for reactivation I'd say.

Female "big Beat" Ballads - Your Faves?
Gointoagogo replied to Ljblanken's topic in All About the SOUL
Glad this thread has been resurrected although I agree that some of the later ones are way too fast to be ballads. I've always loved Take Me For A Little While by Evie Sands - she doesn't half sing with soul for a white girl! -
What tragic news this is- what a nice guy Jim was. My sincere condolences to Liz and family.

Charlie Gracie - He'll Never Love You Like I Do is a blue eyed classic and imo it is, and always was a horrible sound. Utopias - Girls Are Against Me is another classic which I rate very highly and to many others is a horrible sound, but mentioned above is Timi Yuro which imo is the ultimate example of a blue eyed classic. One that I've been getting into lately is Charlie Rich - Don't Tear Me Down, wonder if this will ever become a classic.

Is it time to sell up? For me it most definitely is. Although I've been selling quite a few over the past two years I'm now aiming to get rid of almost all my 45's over the next year. I just happen to be at a stage in life where there are so many justifications telling me that now is the right time for me. I've been buying loads over the past few years (financed by sales) but the only time I ever play records nowadays is when I receive them to check the quality and maybe digitalise them, so I don't see the need to keep them if I don't play or even look at them. I never thought I'd ever say this but I don't get the same excitement listening to "Northern Soul" and this is probably down to familiarity breeding contempt. After thousands of listens any record will sound a bit stale and I'm just finding the northern stuff a bit uninspiring to me now. My wants list is down to just half a dozen or so and some of those are just for completeness - I don't really NEED them. Although there is one in particular which I would pay over the odds for lol - but as I said I don't really need it. I'll be 65 next year and apart from wanting to convert 45's into cash - buy a new car? special holiday? new greenhouse etc etc I really don't want to leave a load of 45's for my wife to try and shift. Not a consideration but as an aside I do believe that in general the price of the vast majority of 45's have long peaked and although it will be nice to make a nice profit on some items I do know that I will lose £100's on other ones. But as mentioned earlier it's not about buying to make a profit. Apart from property, I can't off hand think of anything else I've spent my money on over the years where I'd expect to get that money back later in life. The collecting was never about making money but more about that inexplicable urge to have THAT 45.

A lovely bit of blue eyed soul from Jack Moves. This is a very pleasant 2010 cover of the Ledgends original 1970? version on Red Balloon which is impossible to find.
-
Great track this. Did it actually come out on 45?
-
These playlists are consistently high quality, very soulful and very imaginative. This latest selection is just wonderful to me with lots of my favourites, lots of things I'll never own cos of their rarity and plenty of new ones. I love the way that you always get cheap underplayed sounds played alongside class rarities - I never thought I'd ever see 3 Miracles tracks played in one session and has "I've Been Good To You" ever been played out before? - Just a fantastic set of playlists - well done guys!

This nice bit of RnB from Dolores Johnson on the Carnival label is quite hard to find.

Sweet Deep and Soulful, Durham City, March 11th Playlists
Gointoagogo replied to Kev Cane's topic in All About the SOUL
Fantastic playlists guys - well done to all of you. -
This is strange lol - out of the ones I picked from youtube I got the "give me a kiss" on the 149 below. I've known there were 2 versions since the Inferno one came out - was it included in a LP btw? I actually preferred that version to the one had on Wand but I can't remember which Wand one I had and its long gone. I got another one recently and I'll check it when I'm back from hols. I was at a do in Crewe late last year and I mentioned to my pal that they were playing Hand It Over for the second time in 90 minutes but at least they played the other version.
-
Worth another bump?
-
Does anyone have a shagged out copy that doesn't even play but has a pristine B side?
-
Wand 149, Kent 45 + Inferno 45 all have "The way you let me have" + "come on baby and give me a kiss" Wand 169 + Pye Int 45's both have "will you let ma have" + "come on baby take me for a ride" Edited 08/02 - I am totally wrong about the 2 Wand 45's. It now looks as if on these 2 releases it is hit and miss as to which version you get.
