  1. The Real Housewives Of Upnorth A series documenting the unconventional lives of a group of middle class women in the picturesque counties of Northern England - and of course they are all married to soulies! They are constantly followed around by the cameras and each week we get to see the highlights of the previous week - like when they were all down at the Ktfagogo club dancing round their handbags to "Just Loving You" with their hands waving in the air as if they are at a particularly boisterous gospel meeting - and when they stagger up to the DJ and tell him to "knock that crap s**t off and put some proper northern soul on" I also like the bits where they are talking about how their husbands went to Wigan Casino every week until it closed (I wonder how many of them were really into Bay City Rollers for a while) The show really livens up when the lads are shown regaling the girls with what new sounds they have bought and how much of a bargain it was and how it is really worth a lot more. Of course our heroines are not as affluent as their North American counterparts but they know deep down, that when their hubby's finally depart to the great all nighter in the sky and they sell all those records worth £000's then they too will be able to live the lives of The Real Housewives Of Orange County
  2. I gave this one hundreds of plays back in the day. I think if you really like 75% of a comp. (like enough to get the vinyl) you are doing well. I can't think of any compilation where every single track does it for me. Lost Soul Oldies vol.6 1. Pretty Little School Girl/Emory & Dynamics 2. Give It A Chance To Grow/Toppiks 3. Yes I Do/Bleu Lights 4. Look Up, Look Down/Soft Touch 5. All Roads Lead To Heartbreak/Symphonics 6. I Can't Wait/Dontells 7. You Stood Me Up/Specials 8. Someone/Lovers 9. Thinking About My Baby/Geminiles 10. When Your Baby's Gone/Billy Butler & Infinity 11. Where You Live/Flairs 12. How Do You Say Goodbye/Heartbreakers 13. Please Baby Please/Sensations 14. A New World Beautiful/Donald Jenkins 15. I Can't Tell A Lie/The Gas Light 16. This Love/Joy Tones 17. I Shed A Tear/Don Hart & James Shorter 18. Sugar (Don't Take Away My Candy)/Jive 5 19. Pick Your Self Up/E.G. Taylor & Sounds of Soul 20. Surrender/Toppiks 21. Love Has Gone Away/Combination Inc
  3. I've been saying for ages that I'm going to give this a visit - the playlists are right up my street. Well I've just booked my train tickets and hotel (2 nights tho' ) for the next one in April. Counting down the days already!!
  4. I've never managed to get one of these yet. It's a cracking track but it's the other side that does it for me and one you rarely hear.
  5. Superb article thanks - this record personifies the girly group sound and the northern sound all in one - two for the price of one! and is definitely in my all time top ten. I have a question though if anyone can help? My copy (and the one in the article) show "Hotpoint Music" but there is one on youtube that shows "Irene Music" - does this suggest that there were 2 pressing runs?
  6. Hi I have a stateside demo which is at least E+ both labels and E+ vinyl on feel good side. The only your love side vinyl would be e+ if it wasn't for a needle scratch right across playing surface resulting in an annoying click. Apart from that it really is a thing of beauty. I'd be looking for £60 to include 1st class sign for.
  7. One step ahead of the lads? I'd go for Jo Law who has put me on to so many great tunes over the years and her taste in music is wonderful.
  8. To answer the original question I think that the later pressing is rarer. There have been loads of the Gloreco sold over the past 3 years - I'm just surprised that it still commands a high price. Still a brilliant record though but I'm waiting till the price falls.
  9. Thanks Stu -it's the 532 I want cos I'm after the other side (say it isn't so) which I know is on 537 but I reckon 532 is cheaper as 537 has a good a side
  10. I'm looking for the following Carnival records pls Car 532 - Lee Williams & Cymbals Shing A Ling USA Car 546 - Symphonies - Need Someone To Love Pls PM with condition & price Thanks
  11. Best buy for me was 7 years ago when I got 30 records off ebay for $1.99 which included a very nice copy of Linda & The Pretenders. Stopped doing the regret thing some years ago as I always got much more than I had paid and I must have needed the cash at the time however I do wish I had a copy of the Sweets which I sold for £30.
  12. Hi - am after The Fuzz - Do just what you can. Please advise condition. & price thanks

    Wendy Rene R.i.p.

I only knew the BBQ track ( which I've never liked) until what will tomorrow bring was on Dave Godins first deep soul cd - in fact I am sure I heard him play it on a Sunday radio show ( must have been R Searling's?) anyway I bought that single and yes it had After Laughter on flip. Since then I've discovered so many sublime tunes by her that she is, along with Linda Jones my fave female vocalists. does it get any better than After Laughter, I wish I were that girl , Crowded Park, Crying all by myself et al? rip Wendy and thanks for the pleasure you've given us
  14. I never heard the kittens played at Wigan cos I only went a couple of times in late 70's. I do seem to recall a blues and soul article showing top sounds of 74 and the kittens was near the top. Next time I'm in the loft I'll hunt out the list.
  15. Some great bargains here and some brilliant records. That Fantaisions should be in everyone's collection.
  16. They are very similar but I think the difference in the "s" is easier to spot- as already said - what a lot of work to produce a boot
  17. Yes I've seen these reissues franc (sure that Craig Moerer) had some - it is the begging side I'm after - that Impressions cover doesn't do anything at all (funny how we all have different tastes) I'm sure one will turn up eventually and if not then there's always the cd
  18. I can do both for £60 inc sign for shipping in uk
  19. I know it's a hard one but there are 3 on popsike - and I'm sure anglo were auctioning one last year (or was it year before) but I wasn't solvent at the time! i also have a vague recollection that someone here on ss was offering it in past year or two . It's been one of my faves since late 90's when I had it on a Chicano tape from US- I know it's not a "soul" record as such but it's my type of sound and if you are right Dave about the limited number, I'll just have to hope that one of the current owners want to offload it
  20. 568 - I like everything about you b side to loving you is sweeter than ever
  21. Thats a perfect description for the Peggy March tune - white poppie shite describes a lot of the tunes played at Wigan - and yes I love it too
  22. Kittens ---Ain't no more room louise Lewis - Wee oo I'll let it be you
  23. I remember Stevie Z in Greatstone saying he had both versions and there was no way to tell by looking at the record. i can't recall whether he was talking about demo or issue - I've had quite a few demos and only 2 issues and all of them played the YouTube version (which IMHO is the superior one) wonder if records of this ilk will ever get played out again?
