  1. Looking for the following: The Astors - More Power To You (US Stax) Aaron Neville - How Could I Help But Love You (US Minit) Thanks
  2. Appreciate that there is a list of projects, just thought it would be good to see some of these early tracks placed together as most people haven't heard this stuff, despite being avaliable on CD. Thanks for your comments.
  3. Hi Tony I had suggested to Ady (although I didn't follow it up with the track listing I had prepared) that perhaps Kent could do an 'Early Motown' Comp Cd as part of the Kent 'New Breed R&B' series. Here's the sort of tracks that could form the basis, All tracks are avaliable either of the Complete Singles series or on various anthologies. Amos Milburn - Money Barrett Strong - Misery Barrettt Strong - Yes, No Maybe So Chico Lavett - Solid Sender David Ruffn - One Of These Days Lamont Dozier - Fortune Teller (Tell Me) Don Mckenzie - Whose Heart (Are You Gonna Break Now) Eddie Holland - It Moves Me Eugene Remus - Hold Me Tight Frank Wilson - Ain't Gonna Tell you Hattie Littles - Is It True (What They Say About You) Hattie Littles - Love Trouble Heartaches And Misery Henry Lumpkin - Mojo Hannah Jimmy Ruffin - Don' t Feel Sorry For Me LaBrenda Ben - The Chaparone LaBrenda Ben - I Can't Help It, I Gotta Dance Little Otis - Baby I Need You Marvin Gaye - Never Let You Go Sherri Taylor and Sammy Ward - Lover Sammy Ward - You've Got To Change Sammy Ward - Big Joe Moe Saundra Mallet - All I Got Stevie Wonder - Waterboy Stevie Wonder - Fingertips (tribute to Uncle Ray version) The Charters - Sign Me Some Sign The Downbeats - Don't You Know I Love You Baby The Miracles - (I Need Some) Money What do you think ?
  4. Sorry if this is in the wrong area. Thanks TTM
  5. Here's one: containing dancers of mixed age, including Keb and Tomas (from the current mod scene, who only about 19/20)
  6. We all should, he is basically 'stealing' and no royalties will go back to the artists or any other interested parties. He doesn't own any of the copyrights to these tracks, and is blatently making money off other peoples property. Some of the stuff he's making are major labels, Chess etc and these companies should really be clamping down on any of this sort of activity. It's the BPI who really need to get involved, but its probably too low level for them. Although I'm sure if any of the major record companies saw this stuff on ebay and the numbers involved they would act. Trouble is these days the likes of EMI, Universal, WB's and Sony own so many copyrights would be able to spot some of the non-major labels these boots are on.
  7. What are the tracks?
  8. Thats what happens when big Mod tunes crossover to the Northern Scene, prices and demand rocket!
  9. 2nd Line - something about 'The World Treating Me Like A Fool'??? Thanks TTM
  10. So if what Tony said is correct none should be rarer than any others? I have quite a few by individual artists/groups, but hardly ever see the Motown Memories Volume 2 around, has a great sleeve with West Grand Bld on the cover, track listing is also superb. Amongst my most treasured are Earl Van Dyke and Marvin Gaye (Stateside).
  11. Just found this! https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JOE-E-YOUNG-TONIKS-SOUL-BUSTER-UK-TOAST-LP-/360309921776?pt=UK_Records&hash=item53e42517f0
  12. I have a single on UK Toast and a Mexican ep with a couple of great tracks. I know he also had a Toast LP, does anyone know what tracks it contained?
  13. I've frequented the 100 Club since 1979 (Mod Revival days) and I've dj'd there with bands quite a few times in the last 15 years. I love the place, on a great night the atmosphere is electric due to the unique shape and make up on the space. Having said that I think the main reason the club will close is it's close promixty to the new Tottenham Court Road Cross Rail Station, it's right opposite. The block opposite has been demolished and the redevelopment of east Oxford Street means value and rents of building will be very high. Here's a scan from today's Metro showing what the station will look like::
  14. Manship has a Junior Wells for £40, but for £20 you can buy 'Up In Yeah' which is the same backing track with different lyrics.
  15. Being a motown fan as well as liking mod/northern fans, this series offers great value for money and the cd's not just aimed at Northern collectors. As a viable commercial product it has to appeal to different music fans. I personally like the Frank Wilson track which has potential on the mod/r&b scene. On the subject of the 6X6 vocal, can a sample of the track not be put up on then we can all judge if it's genuine, until then I'm in agreement Tony. Let us all see and hear the proof and then we can decide.
  16. Willie Bollinger - Shake Shake Shake, hidden away on the 'Memphis 60' comp is absolutely superb.
  17. I pre-ordered mine, and received an email saying it had been reduced to £6.99
  18. Got mind yesterday from Amazon UK, had a quick listen and love some tracks on first listen. You can't get this much value for £6.99.
  19. Played by Booker t Jones!
  20. The mostly likely candidate is Benny Benjamin, Motowns mainman drummer from 59 through to the late 60's, although it could be Pistol Allen or Uriel Jones. There would have been no reason to bring in outside sessionmen as Motown had a rich pool of Detroit jazz players and the Funk Brothers were a large group of musicians on whom BG and other producers could call on at anytime.
  21. Ebay is flooded with all these R&B/Rockin' 50's, early 60's repro's, I'm sure they are not legit. Does anyone know who's producing them?
  22. Probably but those were the only issues I have.
  23. Not forgeting the soulful version of 'Let Me Down Easy'
  24. Been to see both Sharon Jones and Eli Reed recently, and Eli was the better live act. SJ is a great singer, but her live act is very showy with dancing and audience participation, whereas Eli just gets on with it and puts all of his energy into his singing. He is diefinately better than James Hunter live, saw them on the same show at the Soho arts Theatre and JH was couldn't follow Eli's smokon' performance. On the recorded front the new Eli album is a smoother production than his first, and SJ is very consistent across all of her albums. I suggest anyone who doubts how good ELi is check him out live.
