  11. Hi "boba"! 1. They cut for Chess "You Should Be My Lady" with Andre Williams. Ron Banks: "...we just knew we were ready to make it happen. Then we ran into something we knew nothing about called 'backstage theatrics'. We were getting ready to do the project with Chess/Janus, but Andre Williams and one of the Chess brothers had a personal problem about some lady. It set us back again, and the frustrations were added again." Incidentally, there's also an album that they cut with Steve Cropper in the winter of 1969 that's still in the can. 2. Yes, the line-up of that "splinter" group was William Howard, Elbert Wilkins, Arthur Phillips, Dupree Sims and Isaac Red. There are a lot of quotes on that group in the Dramatics story, part 2, and I can't possible reprint it all here. Altogether the whole 4-part story is 27-page long + later updates. As far as I know, the Theatrics cut that single in 1980, and that other Dramatics lasted only for about a year or two, so it can't be them. The real Dramatics called the other group 'the Fanatics'. 3. You'll find me at heikki.suosalo@wmail.fi Best regards Heikki .....................

  15. I have some interesting guests this time telling about their new product, and I'd like to emphasize that in each case the music is really, really good. Ronnie McNeir has released a new solo album, and inevitably we had a few words about Ronnie's past career and the Four Tops, too. Wendell B out of St. Louis surprised me with his thoroughly soulful and deep Southern soul CD. Our recent acquaintance, Abraham "Smooth" Wilson, has dropped his "New York CD", and interestingly hot on the heels of his "West Coast CD." On top of that, there are as many as nineteen new Southern soul albums - some quite disappointing, but some remarkably impressive - nine recommended classic soul compilations, including the magnificent Fame box, and three books reviewed; plus as a bonus my earlier interview with Larry Hamilton. Best regards Heikki Ronnie McNeir, Wendell B and Abraham "Smooth" Wilson are interviewed at http://www.soulexpre.../deep3_2011.htm

  17. Besides the members of the group, also the songwriter Barbara Morr and the producer/songwriter Leo Graham out of Chicago are interviewed. Please read the 4th part of the Manhattans Story, covering the 80s, at http://www.soulexpre...ttans_part4.htm Best regards Heikki “It was a song that we were working on at home, at the basement studio, and we were just doing some creation on some things, Paul Richmond and myself, and it just kind of came about. Sometimes things just happen.” According to Leo Graham’s reminiscence above, the Grammy-winning Shining Star came into existence almost by accident. Leo was the producer and co-writer of this beautiful and haunting gem of a ballad, one of the most memorable love serenades in our music...
