  1. I don't know about 'the new soulie' and all that, but I was thinking about what kind of soul music and how we will enjoy soul music in the future. I can for see a smaller 'scene' or amount of lovers of the music, of what we know as Rare soul, or northern soul, that's happening as we speak I think as the generations get older and sell up. I think the balance of the type of music will change, If you take all the new productions that are coming out, stuff like the brilliant Benjamin & The Right Direction et al, it may well grow in terms of live acts in the flavor of their sixties forerunners, listening digitally will be the main way to 'get' the music, and the collecting scene will be smaller I think... I don’t think newcomers to soul music whether its old or new in the main are going to pay the prices that are being charged these days, that model if you like isn’t something that’s going to make it accessible, it’s always been a niche thing anyway.... We cant say with certinaly what will be happening in 2030, but it wont resemble whats gone before... and that's right, stuff evolves... what do you all think? Mal
  2. Great 45 🙂 old thread right so we all got this one now... still a fabulous track then ...
  3. Pictures taken from out the back... A passing bird, or an Unladen Swallow, Microlites at dusk, bird appears again ?! ufo clouds and the calm before the storm yesterday... :-) Amor en las montanas!!
  4. Just reading some soul blurb and saw these two ‘cover ups from shifty from yonks back, think I remember him playing Clara Hardy CU on Richard Searlings show maybe 2001/2, but can’t be sure it’s the actual tracks listed below, he did find a one off acetate I think on a USA trip about then... Clara Hardy & Magictones C/ULou Pride C/U so anybody got anything we could listen to regarding these two, or have these been uncovered since and it’s common knowledge... ? be good to know mal
  5. Ohhh, Edwin Starr at the Q club in Birmingham, late 9ts I think... he was on with Steve Mancha, JJ Barnes...and a host of uk jocks, brass section on ‘Time’ literally blew me away!! Great night A close second, Mary Love singing ‘Baby I’ll come’ at the Kent label party in Kentish Town, about 2005/6 I think, don’t remember the dates now but that for me was knockout, and Maxine Brown and Tommy Hunt sang the samd night as well :-) it was a 7/8 min rendition of the song, simply awesome !!! malc

  11. waste of your time arguing about crap that don't matter... Record day is a positive thing, very commercial but then that's what its about, selling records... Count yourselves lucky, no Soul Brother records here in Southern Spain, I'd have to travel to Granada to visit a decent record store... anyhow Be careful out there people! remember 200g Weighted vinyl doesn't mean it sounds any better :-) Mal.C :-)
  12. Love the Frankie Valli Tony, very nice on demo :-) prectictably if you should want to sell it 😜

  15. Hey mate, I’m 48, I don’t know whether it’s an age thing, I’m too young to be one of those who are cashing in and looking to impending retirement, and I’m obviously not young and foolish as I used to be, aggressive and got to get em all... maybe it is age then... I’ve got enough records to have racks to naval gaze at... And as I’ve said I won’t pay these prices today
  16. I’ve really ground to a holt on buying, I just won’t pay the prices anymore, prefer to hang onto my collection as is... if prices go down I might start again but I won’t throw my money away anymore...
  17. Really sticky thread this, if you get my meaning, I’ll say this cause I feel compelled to do so, outside of available cash, where ever that comes from, some collectors and dealers are hiking prices right up, and in allot of cases with no more justification than they can, long gone are the days of its gone out of vogue and the price drops, if it’s a good Sound an oldie or newbie, unknouwn or not, even 1st or 2nd issue, 45s are getting inflated prices attached to them... but then it’s aleays been like that, used to feel that when you received the lists, it’s just got to a point I think where the bubble is maybe about to burst? so be warned, pay over the odds today, and in 5 years time you may find some serious depreciation.. That’s just my view folks..
  18. Pandora’s box steve, I’m not sure I can do this in under ten :-)

I'm perplexed, can you say who you are? because I don't know you at all. Are you sure you sent me some free 45's, because I don't remember that... Personally I like to pm people in private rather than taking aim on line, but hey if you get off on making statements like that, then if you did give me something for free, you can have it back..
