  2. I’ve had that same experience in Florida on the three occasions I’ve been there looking, not allot about I’m afraid, If you can get to Fort Lauderdale you will start to find more, quite a few places to look there buena suerte Señor Mal
  3. Johnny for me as well, I have the platters 45 from going to that years anniversary, but I would love an original of Johnny Hampton. Think the more sparse no backing singers feel of Johnny’s version gives it a tad more to the ear, and I love his voice:-) that platters you tube link was recorded far too fast to really make that version sound right though... Mal

  5. are you replying to me here Baby boy?
  6. Of course, but I do think collecting vinyl will eventually decline, and I’ve mentioned 2030 in my post as a time by which that might happen. ‘Might’. ! But Honestly I don’t know it’s just conjecture isn’t it. I still crave some in that blokes top 500.... actually because when I was younger I’d have never bought allot of them, but now I actually like my oldies collection, I like getting them on Aussie labels, makes it a bit different... but we don’t tell people what to buy do we? that would wrong and very narrow minded... lol m
  7. Indeed, but it will be bigger, and more the norm, or not at all... ! lol who knows... M
  8. Wav's are going to kill your disc space mate, good quality MP3 should do it as Chalky says, keep the bit rate up, don't compress them and they will sound fine I'm sure.. For ages I recorded allot of my original 45's as Wavs, still got allot if your interested, or I have their MP3 counterparts if you have stuff to swap? any Genre, decade, But I'm not really into Funk much... lols Mal
  9. I don't know about 'the new soulie' and all that, but I was thinking about what kind of soul music and how we will enjoy soul music in the future. I can for see a smaller 'scene' or amount of lovers of the music, of what we know as Rare soul, or northern soul, that's happening as we speak I think as the generations get older and sell up. I think the balance of the type of music will change, If you take all the new productions that are coming out, stuff like the brilliant Benjamin & The Right Direction et al, it may well grow in terms of live acts in the flavor of their sixties forerunners, listening digitally will be the main way to 'get' the music, and the collecting scene will be smaller I think... I don’t think newcomers to soul music whether its old or new in the main are going to pay the prices that are being charged these days, that model if you like isn’t something that’s going to make it accessible, it’s always been a niche thing anyway.... We cant say with certinaly what will be happening in 2030, but it wont resemble whats gone before... and that's right, stuff evolves... what do you all think? Mal
  10. Great 45 old thread right so we all got this one now... still a fabulous track then ...

  12. Just reading some soul blurb and saw these two ‘cover ups from shifty from yonks back, think I remember him playing Clara Hardy CU on Richard Searlings show maybe 2001/2, but can’t be sure it’s the actual tracks listed below, he did find a one off acetate I think on a USA trip about then... Clara Hardy & Magictones C/ULou Pride C/U so anybody got anything we could listen to regarding these two, or have these been uncovered since and it’s common knowledge... ? be good to know mal
  13. Ohhh, Edwin Starr at the Q club in Birmingham, late 9ts I think... he was on with Steve Mancha, JJ Barnes...and a host of uk jocks, brass section on ‘Time’ literally blew me away!! Great night A close second, Mary Love singing ‘Baby I’ll come’ at the Kent label party in Kentish Town, about 2005/6 I think, don’t remember the dates now but that for me was knockout, and Maxine Brown and Tommy Hunt sang the samd night as well :-) it was a 7/8 min rendition of the song, simply awesome !!! malc

  19. waste of your time arguing about crap that don't matter... Record day is a positive thing, very commercial but then that's what its about, selling records... Count yourselves lucky, no Soul Brother records here in Southern Spain, I'd have to travel to Granada to visit a decent record store... anyhow Be careful out there people! remember 200g Weighted vinyl doesn't mean it sounds any better :-) Mal.C :-)

  23. Hey mate, I’m 48, I don’t know whether it’s an age thing, I’m too young to be one of those who are cashing in and looking to impending retirement, and I’m obviously not young and foolish as I used to be, aggressive and got to get em all... maybe it is age then... I’ve got enough records to have racks to naval gaze at... And as I’ve said I won’t pay these prices today
