  1. If I think back it was new times for me, I dropped house stuff in 93, and went full time into soul. Went to places like Wulfrun hall / conoseurs soul club Wolverhampton, travelled upto Leeds a bit, did lots of events in the midlands, record fairs with Mick smiths ten pounders! All worth moola now.... then moved to Brighton, met folk like paul Sutton, Derek, Keith and Maxine, simon, Mary, div and all the mod crowd down there and went back to the 100 club again, first went in 87 with mates from Brum returned mid 9ts I guess... It was Beatin Rhythm, record reviews from Gene and Pete, mr potato head in manifesto, record fairs at the Brighton center, trips to the smoke on buses from Brighton, buying as much ‘Stafford’ stuff as you could... then 98/99 hit and the London thing went into full swing...Brumie mick, back door Kenny , new mates like mike Gibbs, simon from Swindon and all that lot, met my wife with the welsh lot at the 100 club, the two Nigel’s and carmen, lovely bloke he was Nigel.. loud shirts, always taking the piss!! The do’s all over London were great, we never looked back...!!! Bloody good innings! mal
  2. You should never forget how good this is ! Laughs
  3. I’m wondering whether ‘she devil’ was a Mecca spin George? Was in a box I was going through the other week, The guy who is allot older than I said Ian Levine on that one, can anybody confirm either way? Mal
  4. They still have to my knowledge tracks that have not been reissued or put out again, I maybe wrong but the first of the below two you can’t get other than on the orig 45, on a 45. If that makes sense. GS050 - Romona Collins - you have been cheatin / Martha Starr - No part time love for me The Sequins - Try my love / Majestics - I love her so much it... the early Soul Supply (pink beige) 45 that came out with Soulful kinda music and for collectors only. I treasure those 45s cause I don’t have the originals :/( mal
  5. Irma & The Fascinators, didn’t that get a released later on Grapevine as well? They did some great 45s really..... also I may have the title wrong but I thought Joey kingfisher above, didn’t that first appear on the flip of the boot of Paris / Doc the light green on that came out in the early 9ts... Mal
  6. The connoisseurs series had loads Andy, Pat Lewis - Genie and ‘If it hasn’t happened to you yet - Edwin Starr ‘ come straight to mind... i think they kept that series for the unreleased stuff and reissues to the goldmine 7s series... as always there are one or two that may have crept out before they launched the connoisseurs label. They also did 45s on white labels from their CD releases, Gotta find a new love - Inspirations and a Timmie and the Persionettes - got no time, were two they did, the Inspirations was not the acetate Butch was playing at the time that later got a benn-x release, two versions of the same song... They also did a lookalike label on Steve Mancha - he stole the love that was mine, groovesville from the CDs they did, all essential for your record collection see if I can knock the above into some sort of order, but will check discogs 45 Cat sites as I’m sure somebody has covered this already:-) Mal
  7. The little Johnny Hamilton looks like a boot to my eyes with that bevelled edge, best check the run out groove. Just a note on acetates, if they have a flip side check it against the official release, this isn’t an absolute rule but I have come across many very convincing acetates that have 2 songs cut that simply don’t belong together, I think those are vintage acetates likely cut by DJs or even collectors in the states as many did with EMI discs back in the seventies here in the uk, they smell and feel right, but are not produced in the process of getting the original track out on 45... if you get my meaning ... worth mentioning Mal
  8. Anguish guilt and self loathing, good subject for soul record... Silly thread really like allot of the rubidh we go on about on here, me included, each to their own init... m
  9. I dont think this will be heralded as one of his very best or remembered but I very much like Cornel Gunter / love In my heart on Together Heard sam played that first? Mal
  10. Well now we’re talkin! I need to hear both side by side, but the mere mention of one Mr Butler... well yalls know!!! Lol
  11. Think Chalkey has done all this, plain then two cartoon releases, first flipped labels then second with tracks and labels the right way round, think that’s correct... the Royal Imperials / mellow town 45 is awesome isn’t it... better than chartmaker 45 by a long way... fab group the orher track everybody supposidy wants wants on cartoon label is shit IMO, no where near as good as Mamie Lee, Tobie bowe I think, so crap I done remember the artist name properly
  12. This kinda reminds me of the four gents on Fros Ray, pink or beige is first, then a darker almost pink / rouge run that was confirmed to have appeared in shops not too long after the pink ones, simply a second run of the first release, and although sells for quite allot cheaper I don’t see em about much, love my copy esta differente! anyway back to counting bullet holes and sheep peeps.. let’s see more scans of original music mags! What this site is all about
  13. How many are you aware of? Greg and Dave got a copy each when they discovered it, think Greg May have sold his, kinda remember seeing a sales post somewhere. its all on Daves website but I think it’s the same mix...
  14. I’ve Not seen Dave Flynn post on here in a while, but this thread is gagging for his ‘red balloon’ magic tones 45 on solid hit... mal
  15. Sorry folks I’ve missed the recent phenomenon of ‘Rare’ White label unreleased / reissue , 10 quid for the sound, twenty quid to have it on a blank label with a certificate of residence and DJ Only printed at the side.... still I can’t say no to spend 20 when I actually only need to spend a tenner, a ‘rare’ occurace indeed !!! Lol m
  16. so what is 'Rare'!! cheap - there are no cheap records now unless you collect engelbert humperdinck. nice bit / or soul winner, a common 45 you used to pay 5-10 quid for, lots about you now pay 30/40 for Rare - a pretty common record you used to get for up to 50 quid now worth upto a ton very rare - collectible 45 probably nationally released, wait and you will find a copy pretty soon 100 - 200 quid Super Rare - all the old 250-300 quid records people now sell for double and upto 750 Mega rare - all the 500 plus sounds you now pay 1000 and above for Seriously rare or top draw the records over 1000 - 3k mark, a lot of these do seem to turn up Trophy record - still unobtainable and still as pricey as they always were. so rare is basically Common records, sold as rare for overinflated prices you could get if you could be bothered to shop about... sorry folks, the word 'Rare' has really become a load of B****ks these days, it really has. Mal:-)
  17. God that copy looks familiar. Where did you get it?
  18. Here's the boot, lighter almost 'Pink' label, the original is Purple, and a proper Philly vinyl. No raised stamp on the label of the boot, and lightly etched in T 200 -A1 / T200 B1 in the deadwax... 'Gonna Keep Lovin You' is the better side btw ;-0) Mal
  19. You might find YouTube hard these days Irish, if you want mp3's of both sides messenger me on here and I'll pip them to you... M

  23. I know allot of singers were body builders, remember there was a great picture of Timmy and the Persionettes on a Kent cd... the Ben Lee productions one... hope I got that right, cause there is also Timmie and the Empires on there, same Timmie/y?
  24. Cheers Andrew, I can get to you quite easily as I’m just outside Newport... so the Bermudas are made by GPO right, so they are up to date, the others all vintage? Mal
  25. Hi all, record collection now out of storage after two years, but little room for my technics amp etc... So I’m looking for a really quality Dancette, a few issues, recent ones are crap, sixties ones are cool but I worry about the stylus and generally picking up expensive 45,s on it... I guess sixties 45 s were throw away so the kit wasn’t much either.,, any suggestions as to the best one out there, and if you should own one, wanna sell it? best mal
