Mal C replied to Paraboliccurve's topic in All About the SOUL
Just got the Tony Fox LP, I know it did come out on 45, which is expensive, It's a good LP though, especially 'I Wanna Get Next to You' equally as good as 'Love Let Love'. -

Another Auger / Driscoll (Tippets) fan, I love it... found this one, which is not really a great excursion from the original, and features Auger... collaboration more like?

Ok, now I have it, 'Donnie Burkes - Why Don't You Smile Now'... it's a goodun.
-
I won’t share the title, as I can’t remember it just now, and don't have the 45 to hand, but if you have ‘Donnie Burkes - Satisfaction Guaranteed’ on Decca, flip it over, you won’t be disappointed, it’s a really good track and I learnt this yesterday, cause I flipped it, does that still count?

Here ia a few Canadian releases down Under, as some may know I collect Australian, and W&G are up there fort me. These are all via W&G and Viking Records with a few via Festival thrown in. The Regents and Contagious Sound Of The Plague are especially good, Canada Goose 'Higher & Higher' you find those all over the place in Canada... Jerry Palmers version of 'Walkin the dog' is a good one... There was an APEX (Femme) Version of Joanie Sommers - Don't Pity Me out Canada, remember tim Brown selling this one.

Try Kev Whitcombe

Always loved 'that' track, who doesnt. But 'Turn to Me' was always a special beat ballad... Rest in Peace Jerry fuller.

What have you learnt today. Oriole label UK.
Mal C replied to Tobytyke's topic in All About the SOUL
I don't know about UK prices, but you guys should check this 3/4 part interview with John Schroeder about his music, but also about the Oriole label and Motown. There are several interviews with EMI execs on this site, and some really good info about how EMI went about representing Motown. The truth is, Motown only wanted EMI, they were highly unlikely to have gone with Oriole any further after those initial releases, but EMI ignored Motown to start with.. anyhow interesting stuff... https://vinylmemories.wordpress.com/2018/03/19/a-personal-history-of-the-british-record-business-61-john-schroeder-2/ -
Most influential rhythm and blues records of the 1960's
Mal C replied to Geeselad's topic in All About the SOUL
If you are looking for JB influences, it would have to be 'Live at the Apollo' 1963, wouldn’t it? every black family in America had a copy of this LP, and I think he / they (The Flames) did Ed Sullivan show a few years after, 1966, It don’t come bigger that that does it... Gleeslad, you did already, but maybe we can define this a bit more, influential R&B / Soul releases, for the US, the UK or Worldwide, or just the northern soul fraternity? -

WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST 'MODERN' NIGHTER SOUNDS?

has anybody mentioned 'The Innersection - Let Me Love Yuh / I'm in Debt to You' yet? played first at the Highland Room in 1975, as a new release... -
Not really earth shattering that lot, some great classic tracks of course, but would not been have flapping about in anticipation of putting a bid an most of those. Lee andrews acetate was nice...
-
Just checked, The SoulSupply CD was 'Across The Board' which came out in 98... I had the Kent comp 'Sophisticated Sounds' but I dont remember it from that release... he ho, great track all the same... Maybe a bit harsh on 'I Can't Help Myself' it's not got the finess I grant you, but it's a good pounder. The flip is especially good 'Pretty Little Brown Skin Girl'. I'm assuming Marjorie Black, is actually 'Ernestine Eady - The Change'?
-
Chuck Carter, sure it’s been discussed before. I first heard this on a Soul Supply CD in the 9ts, was it an acetate spin back when guy was playing it?
