  4. Couple of ‘Aussie’ Blues....
  5. The Outrigger - Birmingham late eighties, 86/87 etc The outrigger was the first ‘Dayer’ I ever attended, used to watch all my mates older brothers scoot up to the legendary Sunday nights, we were all too young to go. But as soon as I could get on the train to the old Moore Street Station me and a load of mates hit the Sat sessions with loads of enthusiasm! Jocks would be Tony, Pep and Ted Massey on occasions... Skin heads on the bottom bar, Skol Beer, embassy no 10 and sticky under foot, still we were hooked! Mal
  6. The Three shades guitars still out of tune guys, I checked two separate recordings of this, sounds bloody awful... like the organ though... nice vocal...
  7. Does anybody think both the Brunswick tracks might share the same backing?
  8. Chi Lites, Artistics and third shades of soul. I get what you are saying Westender but whether it's the recording or something I hear bum notes from both the guitarists on that track, In fact who the hell asked those guys in on the session, too much! and not actually in key to my ears.... Like the vocals though Chi - Lites !
  9. Sure I’ve seen that copy of the Poets before, looks just like the copy Pete Smith sold few years back....
  10. Hope you got through SoulBoy69? Tim and his team are all top guys, I’m sure there is plenty time to get your bids in... ! great list this time out with The star pick surely being Tommy Ridgley...
  11. That’s me in the foreground, blue shirt dude is my mate Baz... and Paddy dancing in his pilot jacket... I loved the Old Vic...
  12. Freddie Cole - I had it made / Tru Glo Town. For a monstrously brilliant beat ballad nobody really seems to talk about much... unless you got one of course always thought Freddie Cole, Nat king Cole... take a listen you decide
  13. My god how did we miss Mike and the Censations for this thread! Go forth and procure !
  14. Interesting they do turn up, so I’d have to check release numbers against dates, but there seem to be a fair few that got both label designs. I foolishly sold my orange label Cry cry cry, which I really wish I hadn’t... more Aussie Bobby bland:-)
  15. Cliff Wagner - exception to the rule! My golly what a 45, both sides and still in 2019 not fetching silly money... Ronnie Savoy _ loving you / Wingate brilliant Detroit as good as loads on other Detroit labels ! Joe king - speak on up / Prix still cheap and brill ‘ lucky laws - who is she / One Dearful Will be one that will triple in price i reckon mighty marvelows / talkin about my baby / ABC 20/30 pound track but universally accepted to be TOP draw as some dealers say The kittens - How long can this go on / Chess pay twenty quid for this one still! The Four Sonics - where are you / triple B, you can get for well under half of Johnny Dixon on Boss... same record to these ears joe L - I’m not gonna worry / Cissac The Ballads - I wish I knew / Venture probably the best 20 quid you will ever spend on a 45!! Nobody will or can argue with that ! Lol And all that without straying into crossover , 7ts or modern ! Ain’t bad—- malcolm
  16. I was thinking of putting a list up as a discussion, there are literally millions of course, but here is a good list of tracks that have all been the sales boxes for ever, and haven’t as yet been picked off and risen in price, such as Robert Thomas et al... all musically as good, if not better than the now so called silly money stuff... well nearly, but all still really cheap and essential ! Utimations - Would I do it over / Marvlus Magestic - send my baby back to me / Equador TSU Toronados - only inside / Ovide Steve Mancha - I don’t want to lose you / Groovesville The Rivingtons - Your Gonna Pay / Quan The Companions - Be yourself / GA lee Harvey - Only true love / Kris the Sensations - I wont be hurt / Way Out Five Stairsteps - I ain’t gonna rest / Windy City Jimmy Delphs - Almost / Karen The Prophets - My kind of girl / Stephanyne the Vanguards - thought of losing you / Lamp Winfield Parker - I love you just the same / Ru Jac (slow version/ yellow label) so much better than the fast version!! Revlons - What a love this is / Toy, still cheap, lets face it less common than Robert Thomas day but as good, get this for 30/40 quid if you look ... Chuck Bernard - She’s already married / Satelite ( two versions of this song on the label, dirt cheap 45s) monroe Taylor - proud guy / Chesapeake / Contenders - You gotta do what you gotta do / Edge Think of more later, but if your just starting to collect, and digging deeper, go for the artists and labels, Gene Chandler, Walter Jackson, Bobby Bland, Impressions, Brunswick catalogue, etc etc, still loads of 45s that change hands for under 30 quid, to be honest you can ignore all the big money stuff and still live a very soulful life:-) mal
  17. do you the label variations Mike? Remember having Cry Cry Cry on the earlier brown/ yellow label and I’ve had one on an orange label also... maybe the time the label change was made, and the different ones crept out of different pressing plants?
  18. Here is one that gets less attention I think... great beat, cool femme backing singer:-)
  19. Predictably a few nice Aussie ones, he had tracks on Top Rank, CBS also, and I’m sure some other Aussie labels... i have a question, James Browns drummer ‘Jabbo’ worked for Bobby bland before getting offered double what he was on at Duke, anybody know what tracks jabbo played drums on? All of the below...
  20. I haven’t actually Chris, but I’ll take a look, particularly like the cover blue face beret etc, so that’s just the 7 inch right? Re new thread, Your in luck, I’ve been shopping at a local record store in Bath every Friday since I got a job back here in Blighty, I’ve had all his northern, but he gets lots of jazz and deep house, etc etc... even bought Fela Kuti last week of him, so lots to share...:/)
  21. I adore this track, but I don’t have it on vinyl, anybody got; Patrick Gammon - when will I see you I need the 12 inch with him wearing a beret... I don’t know the label, but I’m sure it only came out once, mail me on here if you do cheers mal
  22. Mostly taken from disc I believe, they are contentious in certain ways, but they were all essential buys, all of them, and the two Soul Supply sevens that came out along side the Lp’s....:-) mal
