Ha! like how Mick gets awarded 'SOLUTION' ! I thought music was about feeling not a means of solving a problem or dealing with a difficult situation!

Doesn't sound right to me Andy, if they were the full article as it were, they would be on for the full market value, I'd steer clear mate.. Mal

Hey Dave, does Ketty Lester have 'Westcoast' on the LP? M

Top 50...Newly played out in the last 5 years
Mal C replied to Tomangoes's topic in All About the SOUL
Just listening to 'The Impressions - Rhythm' above here, great track, and thought GOD! I forgot the The Dontells - Move On Down The Line / There Goes A Fool. How good are these tracks... not 'Norven' and all that, just brilliant Chicago Soul... -

The other one I really like is Bill Brown & the Soul Injection - Time after Time, again the others by Bill Brown Disco edits put out were ok, but no where near this. I had that Soul Injection - Stay off the Moon on Accent some years back, ten dollars off ebay, absolutely dreadful record, actually out of tune in the beginning, promptly sold it for 50 quid to somebody on here... crap track and I think I dropped a bollock on the price -

My favourite has been James Reese & The Progressions - Joker (Where Did You Come From). Just a wonderful crossover record, perfect in every sense :_0) their other unreleased on on Disco edits doesn't come near... Let's Go (It's Summertime) is brill though.. -
Wolf Moon coming this Sunday Steve, and the winds look to be westerly / SSW, I think this weekend is gonna blow fishing wise... Caught this very old Carp yesterday at my local pool, which I walked to with all my kit btw, nearly killed me! There are about 40-50 carp in this 4 acre pool, and they do not get caught regularly, so if you catch one they are always full of character and it's well worth the wait, I had blanked 8 times here before this one, thats how hard it is... they also have a big head of Tench in there as well, some well up to 8lb. Diggin' Deep Records - New 45 - Melvin Davis
Mal C commented on Sean Hampsey's article in News Archives
WOW, Melvin Davis ‘Thinking Of You' cant make my mind up whether its better than Tim Murray, its a different feel, but you gotta have both versions right? great music stuff Sean -
Very seventies 'Mecca' feel to this weeks show, Bobby Womack, Cecil Holmes, Phyllis Hyman are 3 synonymous artists with the music played at that famous club. Sammy Relford intro is from his 'Space City' Lp, I will include some other tracks in weeks to come. Mike James Kirkland does an amazing version of the Carol king song. Lawrence Carroll's Peoples band is the Inst side to Qunestine Strong on 'Rania' label out of Phoenix, Arizona, also very worth checking out Bobby Barnes recording's on that label. Two interesting tracks, Julia Holter - Hello Stranger is from 1993, & is an ethereal cover of the Barbara Lewis million seller, 'Black Fur' has been sitting in my collection for years, it has a funk flip, but I have to say its been my favourite this week! also got a release on a reissue 7 via the Numero group about ten years back, so easy cheap repro copies are out there! See you soon cheers malc # Track Listing 1 Brand New Man Sammy Relford 2 Losing you Courtial 3 Ain't Gonna Stop Willie Hutch 4 My Baby's Gone Blade Family 5 Everybody's Gonna be Alright Bobby Womack 6 Living Inside Your Love Phyllis Hyman 7 Long Time No See Leon Ware 8 Standing Right Here Melba Moore 9 Relating A Message To You Cane & Able 10 It's Too Late Mike James Kirkland 11 Living in Harmony Diamond Street Rhythm Band 12 Soulful Love Cecil Holmes 13 One Hundred Years From Now (instrumental) Lawrence Carroll's Peoples band 14 Tell me You Will Stay Jerry Bell 15 Let it Flow Camelle Hinds 16 This Is My Confusion Black and Ward 17 Hello Stranger Julia Holter 18 When We Get Together Soon Black Fur 19 otro final ! 20 Outro Moving On Up

Last weeks show had loads of response, so a BIG thank you to everybody who enjoyed it. So the pressure was on! This weeks show is therefore named in tribute to the sadly departed Mary Wilson, 'Take a Look inside' was unreleased at the time, its a cracking Supremes song. Dee Dee Sharp, Sunny Day & Liberation Street Singers give us a real lift to start, Billy Chears, Betty Wright put the brakes on, barely! Inner City is the most recent track here from 89. Dianne Reeves, Leos Sunship are two big favorites of mine, I bought Sue Barker in Australia 16 years ago, she was an 'Aussie' Jazz artist. Charles Bradley does Chicago with 'Put a Flame on It' rings of 'Mel & Tim', which is fine in book! The Camaro's are the version of that song, The Resonaires was a tip from Steve Scotney, cheers mate, Jimmy J. Barnes was cut around the same time as his 'Born Again' Lp, finishing with a killer slowie from Joe Valentine on Ronn Records. Rest in Peace Mary Wilson... ** Track Listing ** Dee Dee Sharp - Share My Love Sunny Day - Coming Of Man Liberation Street Singers - Love is in the Air Candi Staton - Get It When I Want It Billy Chears - Free your mind Betty Wright - So Long, So Wrong Inner City - Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin' (Def Mix) The 9th Creation - Rule of Mind The Supremes - Take a look Inside The Steelers - A Thousand Tomorrows Cleveland Robinson - People with their hang-ups Dianne Reeves - Welcome to my Love Jim Spencer and Son Rize - The blues are out to get me Leos Sunship - Madam Butterfly Natural Sounds - I Need Love Sue Barker - Love To The People 1619 Bad Ass Band - Where do I Go From Here Billy Butler and Infinity - Hung Up on You Carla Thomas - I've Fallen in Love with You Charles Bradley - Put a Flame on It The Avons - When The Boy That You Love (Is Loving You) The Camaro's - We're Not Too Young The Naturals - Da Da Da Da Da (I Love You) David Ruffin - Let Somebody Love Me The Resonaires - Standing With You Willie Collins - Don't Stop Now Jimmy J. Hi everybody, More Seventies & Crossover Soul for you.. Parallel Lean 'Home is Where the Hatred is' has vocals from Brian Jackson & a short rap form Gill Scott-Heron, came out 2000 really great take on Gil's original song. Jill Scott's 'Family Reunion' is from 2004, Dee Dee Gamble gives us a soaring track, sounds great loud! Rochelle Rabouin & Round Robin Monopoly are both upliftings tracks, Roy Roberts moves us with a driving 45 that came out on 'House of Fox' Records. Neil Reed's 'Not As Beautiful As You' is a great Detroit 45 I first had in the early 9ts, good double sider. The Ultimates sound to me like the same group on Capito records, an enchanting Low Fi sound. Soul Aces ft Charles Derrick is a very rare track which took me decades to get on original 45, Young Ladies is the rarest 45 on 'Stang' by a country mile. Willie Tee is as always is absolute quality, finishing with Jones & Blumberg & my favorite from 'The X Cessors'. See, Not as Beautiful as You! Mal

Hi Folks, it's back to what like best this week, CROSSOVER and Modern Soul! Two hours of brilliant, sublime, soulful music including Towanda & The Total Destruction, Johnnie Taylor, Ann Sexton and Shirley Brown! Richard Tate, Pamela Stanley & Family Circle give us some slick soulful grooves, & Freddie Terrell gets an outing with his lesser played flip 'Why Not Me' from his Capitol 45. Scorpio & His People & Rosie Lopez both have a funky edge, that Rosie Lopez is on Pulsar Records, very interesting label, worth checking. Sweet Pearl & Soulfull Strutters are both big hitters in the soul collecting world, Steven Buford Almaree West is a very nice cheapie. William Howard 'Give a Helping Hand is brilliant one from CAT records, I included Steeplechase as I just got a Spanish release of this brilliant song, Dean Parish on vocals! We finish with a great deep side from George Perkins with 'No Need For A Black Man To Cry'. Wear Your Natural Baby Mal

The Super Hit Sound of a fab selection of 'Cover Versions'. I have been collecting this little stash for a while now, and I reckon there are some really great interpretations of some of the biggest songs in SOUL! Only grey area is 'You Left Me' by Raw Soul With Frankie Beverly, I know Ive heard it some place else, reminds me of the score of Notting Hill, the Rom-Com, but I dont know why, anybody know? Hope you enjoy them Malc
