Easy Jules, lots of soul boys and girls liked Punk, psychobilly etc, for the energy I guess, House, then Rave etc etc, was the same. Believe me when I say there was allot of crap that came out, but there was so much good stuff that did. Im only really interested in mid eighties till 91, after that I would not be able to say...

ahhh, the Institute! cant remember exactly but I think House of God was either run by some of the Wolverhampton lot, or it could have been Lee Fisher and his crowd from Kings Standing, I went a few times, didn't like the club its self, even then I was pinning for a comfy sofa and small dance floor this is a bit of shamless plug, but if your interested I interviewed an old friend Martin Redmond who ran Shelleys several times about the early years, 89/90 this one is about shelleys b4 all the Cov lot got in there, bit about Soul in here and Kool Kat records... I was there that night at Amnesia, I heard there was a northern do on... small world...

The halcyon days of house were amazing, I remember distinctly coming down in car park at Shelleys playing Ted Massey tapes to my mates... some of them were 'Soulies', most were not, but I think after being blasted by 'Cubik & Frank De Wolf ' it was a welcome change of pace to listen to 'Jesse Davis and Jock Mitchell' Did I meet you Pete in Sydney? i moved out there in 2003 and lived in Waverton just off the pacific highway for a few years... appy dayz

Exactly Ady... You don't chase Big records, buy ones that are brilliant that are still cheap. Northern wise there are lots still, Spyder Turner, Majestic, tons of Chuck Jacksons etc etc etc etc, we list em every other week on here! But if you can taste the flavors outside the epicenter of your Rsoul, there are rich pickings to be had! and they are allot cheaper... laughing

I like 7ts boots and eighties ones, the look alike ones, but allot of tracks I bought because I could not afford the original, I never spin my orig Alfie Davidson, only get pleasure from playing my SOS boot... And re issues I get these days, I buy em but I hate playing them, those Big Man reissues are really great, great sound, great labels, but they just sit in a pile on the wall, I simply hate playing them because they are not original... that really is daft isn't it... it is nice Steve, we kinda want to move that way, the corridor from Newport up to Worcester, with the Wye valley areas on your left are all stunning, Monmouth is expensive, they have a Waitrose! lol but if you come out of town and into that green belt there, it gets far more affordable. Only down side is Liza has her eye on my record collection to fund some of this otherwise its my fishing gear, what's the use of having a great house and garden if you cant have a record room...?? laughing
-
I was at a gardening centre on the wkd, nr Monmouth, anyhow this place over looks 'Sugar Mountain' which you can clearly see, quite distinctive! they do a mean pot of mint tea and chocolate brownie

I have this as a White label carver, just says his name 'Duke Turner' but now Ive looked and I cant find it on the web what so ever.... I thought that was on the flip of one of his Spinning Top records tracks, sounds like his "Let Me Be Your Babysitter" probably the same session? they do sound very alike those two tracks. Good though init..

Not sure if these are in the genre - a couple of clips

No, I’m afraid not first one is interesting…. dunno about that second clip, Spanish brothers of the band Queen? -
Lol… you got a top hat for that one… I guess after all is said two things stand out for me, obviously the price but if you Had known and danced to that track for 20 years would you really wanna shell out that much dosh when you could get so much new stuff you had never heard b4? I guess so in this case, pretty boring though… but there are a few oldies I’d like again, June Jackson and half a dozen others for one
-
Cheers Ed, glad you liked it quite obscure some of those

Which Marva Josie tracks were recorded in Detroit? I interviewed her in the early 2000’s that chat is on a tape somewhere. She told me the recording of ‘Don’t’ nearly never happened as Horace Ott was really really really late for the session, maybe gave them a bit of a push or intensity to get it right.

wanted: Lonette - Mind Intruder / Dearborn. Issue or demo doesn't matter. Must be good label and play. Cheers Mal
