My view on Car Warranties, is that it depends on the car. A three year old car just out of its maker's warranty, is likely to still be in good condition, check the log book, and general docs / invoices in the log pouch, was it a fleet car, or privately owned? the milage would give you an indication here. If it has done allot of miles for the year, then you have to take a view. Look for the signs, does it steer to the right or left when you brake progressively? is the steering aligned correctly? if it has had some bigger engine parts changed out, that could be good, or be highlighting a bigger problem. I know that’s not a perfect answer to your question, but I've always gone with paying for items as they come up, I have a good garage near me, I ask him to check the general health of mine, we both know when things are likely to go wrong on them, so between us we manage it. If in doubt, have a local garage look at it for you. Reviewers praising the company or/and slating them in equal measure, that’s not a sell to me. If it's a good company it should be apparent immediately, otherwise I'd steer clear.

John Manship Auction results 4th December 2024.

Is it that rare? I don't think so. Those turn up quite often, more demos than issues I think, but its not mega rare and all that. Why do these auction results get posted up on this site? so we can nag about the prices.... -

That’s interesting, flip side arranged by Moses Dillard. -
Think they just ‘had a go’ down under to be honest. These records did not sell, and received little radio time

What Goes up Must Come Down (Soul Inc / The Charms Unlimited

But is it the same recording, then outputted twice for a 45 and then LP track? I think it is. The differences we hear are in the final mixing and then process to press. -
The writer credited for the 66 version, is James J. Kriegsmann, same guy who did all those famous press/ promo shots. Bob Shwaid produced both the wand 45,s. According to Discogs, Members were, Joe Grier (lead), Steve Brown (first tenor), Glenmore Jackson (second tenor), Leroy Binns(baritone) and Ross Buford (bass), who had formed the group in 1957 on a street corner on 115th Street. Lasted just one year before breaking up. When Joe Grier, got drafted. In 1963 Tony Harris and Frankie Pierce were the new members of the group along with Steve Brown and Leroy Binns. In 1967 they broke up. Was aware they had re cut an earlier song to get a ‘soul sound’ my guess, is that someone at Wand/Sceptre was responsible here to employ James J. Kriegsmann. No group members seem to have writing credits on either version. In answer to my question, I’m assuming Desiree wad the play side. Did they have double A’s in 1966?

Yep same flip side as Lorraine Silver, Lorraine must have had or heard the yank copy when she nipped into a booth on Oxford Street to record her version… it’s a great story isn’t it.

smart arse...

Well they are both vinyl records, I guess we can agree on that.

Had some very nice Aussie 45s through this week, plus a big stash of orig sleeves, all in minty condition... The Charts, dead hard on Aussie Sceptre, taken me years to get a demo of this, but I noticed immediately, that the 45 I had, differed from the aussie Demo on Discogs, on Discogs, 'Desiree' is the push side with demo sticker and no release Stamp, but on my copy 'Fell In Love With You Baby' is the demo'd side, anybody know which was the official A side on this release? (popped all the scans below) Shelley Fabares - Lost Summer Love, I think the original version of Lorraine Silver, came out on Aussie Philips in 1965, originally released on Vee-Jay Records Stateside and was meant to have come out on PYE International over here, but it never came out, so as far as I know, US and Aus only on this one. Anybody know if it came out any where else? A good pop record, dare I say 'Northern' lol Malc

I haven't got the yellow 45 so I cannot listen to them back to back. You say it (Yellow Emblem) is totally different to the LP version, how so, outside running time, how is it different Gaz? I do think, it is highly unlikely there would be two recordings of WGUMCD pre the LP. I think it’s the same studio recording used for the yellow 45 and the Lp but just shortened. The problem here, is as Ken mentioned above, it's the recording dates, and release dates, they dont make sense. The only way to make sense of them, is to say they must have kept the live recording in the can quite a long time, before they put the Lp out. Then the question is, was WGUMCD recorded in the studio, or at the live gig? lable says live recording, well it does not sound like it to my ears, so again it's down to the recording dates. Outside of that tangled mess, here is my assumption. think about it, you have a reel of a live recording, and a reel with a studio recording, and you have to get them seemingly nice and level onto one lp, there is a bit of work to make that happen in the studio, not that they had many tracks or really good blending techniques back then, so the Lp is shortened. Also, no crowd on the Lp version, it sits there on its own as the first track of side two. Yellow label Emblem 45 running time 2.23 Emblem LP running time 2.18 Regarding my initial assumption that these two recordings of WGUMCD are by the same group, one morphed into the other. I don’t think so. I think there may have been some members of Soul Inc that played with the Charms, then Charms Unlimited, then as Mark mentioned 'Freedom', but outside that, I think they share a single label, and a single song. Soul Inc is not the same group Charms Unlimited, which should have been bloody obvious to me from the start! laughing Finally, I did reach out to Johnny Few, no reply I'm afraid. I think it is probably worth going through the different group’s line-ups, just so we can highlight the members that played across them. Nice touch on the pic Alan, where did that come from? -
Ohh thats good, havent hear that in yonks... good though it is, not quite as good as Jimmy Mack.

Just checking out the blurb on Tim Brown's auction this month, and at the Jimmy Mack he has up. Says still a great 'unknown'. I'm fully aware this question doesnt have an answer, we don't know who this was, Tim Brown would have stated if his id was known, Im just interested in the most upto date ideas on who he was. The above thread, to be honest just confuses me a bit, other than he isnt the guy that recorded on Hamster, and he's not likely the Jimmy Mack & The music Factory? Any other credible notes on this one, does anybody know who had been asked about this session, Mike Terry, Mickey valvano, and Mike Coleman on the label, have all those guys been asked about this 45? Was Mike Valvano lead of Mike and The Modifiers on Gordy? and Mike Coleman was Mickey Coleman formerly of the Valadiers. scan from Tim Browns
