cheers for coming back Ken, Brewtown don't seem keen to speak to anybody, which is a bit crap. They said above "all the UK orders will go in box to a friend in the UK", so I guess they are doing them in batches? I ordered a WD as apposed to the Blue ones above, Id assume those would have come through first... who knows 😞 Anybody gets anything, pop a note on here to update us all...

Absolutly Love 'Living in the Footsteps of another Man' one of my favorites by them. Tony Drake co wrote this under his real name of Samuel Garner...and recorded his version... 'I'm so Jealous', 'Love uprising' are two more classics and this version of Cornelius Bros and Sister Rose... only came out on 45 in Brazil.

I dont know mate, just going on what I heard on his show...he da boss right... I bought all their other 45's bar 'Hung up on your Love' on that advise, who knows? I will say the move saved me a few quid though, which is nice 🙂 I do Like the purple Contempo 45's, blk issues are just that, Black issues, boring where ever they come from...

I knew he brought masters with him to Stax, I'd read that somewhere, so I guess all of 'Rare Stamps' tracks, and the subsiquent singles were all 'Groovesville Music', all recorded in Detroit, realeased about 1969 into 1970. Checked a few 45's I have, The Mad Lads - Did My Baby Call, Groovesville Music, Produced by Don Davis, and recorded Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, realeased in 72, so I guess well after he had started at Stax. Do you know Robb what else Don produced at Stax, I assume he produced the Dramatics? I know he produced singles for Carla Thomas, wonder if that work outweighed the tracks he brought with him you think?

Isn't the mastering meant to be better on the Contempo 45 as apposed to the Paula Disc? Remember Richard Searling mentioning this on his show some years back...

Probably Motown for me also, but there are Stax sides that Motown could never reach, Carla's work, Eddie Floyd and Johnnie Taylor and William Bell, what can you say... And for most on here I would guess, the music Don Davis took from Detroit and produced at Stax could not be equaled even by Motown, it's that distinct and so part of the music we love, those Albums and singles underpin everything to us right? As William Bell said, I'd have to be "The Man in the Street" on this one...

The standard these days is very very good on unissued stuff, but the 'The Tomangoes - Loves Got A Hold On Me' is one of the best Ive heard in a good few years... cant wait t get this on 45 🙂 well done MD records!

Very Nice on Festival, don't have this one, if you have a spare George... 🙂 Couple on there seem to have made about £200 more than they normally do, Venturas and Volumes you could get them cheaper today if you started to look. Mel britt is a bit eye watering at that price. But that's the power of the Ovenchip Auction, quality, but at a price!!

R.I.P.Lamont Dozier at true artist, singer, arranger... Here's an early one and a 7ts one from Lamont... love 'Fish Aint Bitin' big favorite of mine, that Kent LP 'Moving On Up' was a big influence in growing my taste in soul music...

A happy Edwin Starr related story. Through 1986 and 1987 I was a a tech college in Solihull studing Graphic Design. All my class mates were from Chelmsley Wood, great bunch of guys, biggest piss takers ever, my best mate at colleage was a massive Prince fan, so abviously music was big. Anyhow we got onto Edwin Starr and he says his brother is in his band here in the UK, he knew he lived in the midlands somewhere, so this was credable. So I asked if he could get a signed Photograph of Edwin, yep his brother can do that, it would be a pleasure for a real fan... This all took a few months, with regular updates; 'Edwin has your photo but needs time to sign', 'Edwin's wife has your photo but she is back in the States visting friends', 'its with his brother the drummer, who has been on holiday, but its on its way from Edwins', 'its in the post from Edwin's to his brother, but his brother expects it any day'. All this went on for two to three months, and I was hook, line and sinker! Eventually it arrives on a Monday morning at college in a really neat cardboard envelope, its a photo copied period hand out print, which looked really good, signed "To Malcolm, my No.1 fan, Edwin Starr" and its my new prized possesion, its framed and it's on the wall !!! So after two years at college on the very last day, everybody huddles round and the deceptions are announced. As it turned out I was not the only one, but they kept mine till last, you guessed it, my mates Brother had never seen a drum kit, he worked for a local supermarket in Chelmsley Wood 🙂 Still love that photo though, in your bedroom, Johnny Wyatt blaring out, Edwin on my wall, the business. Edwin Starr still the Master!

I agree, its not as good as Leon Haywood, but really interesting to find out about from those who know the background of this label and artist. Think we all agree on Mr Lucky 😉 great 45...

It was a blind auction wasnt it, but he had the tracks, so you did it... got some good records from Lew, at pretty good prices... the trick, let the big sharks fight over the BIG titles, and nip your bids into the nicer but more obscure things...

thats the original, big hit for him.. came out in loads of countries... dunno about Mr Lucky, you mean it sounds like on the intro to that song? indeed it does a bit.. Regarding cover versions, I got sick of them, there are tons of lack lustre Aussie ones, I cannot see the point of paing hundreds for a so so cover version, waste of time... I mentioned Nora Lee - You must believe me / westwood in another post, £450 for that, you must be bonkers!! its a £40 quid record tops.. 50 maybe in M- condition, which you will never find.. probably drop me knickers and go for Mr Lucky if I was pushed... 🙂

he chucked it all in though didn't he, label, the sleeve! a mouse or two, laughing Trax 12's are very hit and miss, Ive one or two that actually jump due to a nobule of stuff in the grooves... more like Jamacian 45's...

stampers wear out Im told, so probably a stamp at the end of that run, always a bit fainter...

when was 'Eddie Daniels - Is He Better Than Me booted on the 'BOOTS' label? That was Richard Searling track at the Casino in the later 7ts wasnt it..?
