  1. your all barking up the wrong tree,Tesco baby wet wipes is the answer, just enough soap in them to do the job, and because they are baby ones, no harmful stuff in them and being Tesco they are dead cheap. also a new needle every so often keeps the sound good, most people forget to change their needles regularly.. Mal
  2. this comes up every so often, its not rare, bought mine off here 6 months ago, and I've seen two since, £30 pounds or about that depending on who you buy from I guess...here's an anorak question, the label design is not the usual ABC for the period, well it is but I've not seen all that many Dice design labels, so whats the bag or label sleeve goes with the dice design label? just wondered. m

  5. cool, I love this song, not quite sure whether its as good as Jean's but you gotta have it... is it just the one release? they normally do them in batches.. M
  6. that Jock Mitchel - No mad Woman has been mentioned recently, George Smith was pressed with the bass blurting out, especially on a styrene pressing, god there are loads, Paramount Four is another recent 45 with interest due to the 100 club anni single, recorded way too low...its fine though just turn the loudness up, and mix with volume and hey presto!! a super rare soul 45 and all that.. Its been mentioned before, but as a rule if you go for the Demo, especially on the major label stuff your going to likely get vinyl and in some cases a far far better press..if you have very obscure tastes, like you do, yer take what ya given muff... A question not connected, The Ringleaders on Mpac - all of my life, I had that as four temples, but I can see where i got that from, was it a CD?? just wondered on the way into work this morning..sorry I always manage to go off topic... Mal.C
  7. Recognise allot of mates in the crowd, think I would have been there that night , you never missed it.. m
  8. yep we used to go there as well, it was a moody venue, Coventry always has been especially if your from Birmingham, its funny cause later on we stopped going to these do's and started at the Safari club, the ryan Brothers Boat trips, and going to Flying nights in London, Delite we heard about but never went, we used to go to Nottingham and Leeds, otherwise we would head down south, its the thing with Birmingham we could get most places easily so we did make allot of friends on the scene in other cities. For me though there always was a separation from tracks like landlord - I Like it and the real silly rave stuff Network records started to put out, Altern 8 and all that, its the difference between Outlander and Energy flash say, all of a sudden the real crap pushed us away, I mean Mr Kirk your son is dead was and is pure S***! Early on guys like Martin Red, Mickie Rose aka Unknown DJ, Lee Fisher, Jock, and Dick and Suck, (Richard and Keith suckling to people who knew them) really played music from all sources, very much like the early days of the Northern soul scene, like little Queenie with Little Antony say... I'd never bother collecting the obscure House / rave stuff these days cause only 2 out of every 50 produced was any good, I am buying back allot of the collection I sold in 93 though; but the depth with soul music really is good, there is very little I really don't like. Hey its all good!! mal
  9. Likewise, I never knew the venue had soul events. Can I ask did you go to Shelly's on Friday's or Saturdays? Friday was pretty much a Birmingham night, loads of us traveled over, Saturday all the Manchester lot were there, and I distinctly remember some of the very first spots for a certain DJ Sasha... Best memory New Years eve, either 90 or 91, cant remember which. So on the stroke of Midnight who ever was DJ'n was looping or playing the beginning part of Orange Lemon - Dreams of Santana, just wound everybody right up, and then he lets it play right through on the break...and BANG!!! place literally goes WILD!!!! we all dropped what ever to coincide with midnight, I remember being so nutted all I could do was jump up and down next to the bar....... Very Happy Days Mal.C
  10. I always shop around; it generally shocks me how much some folk on this site pay for supposedly rare 45's, that blatantly aren't, and are readily available. I go back to allot of regular dealers and collectors I've bought from before, and I'm especially suspicious of allot of the new sellers that are advertising on this site as well as eBay, you hear to many horror stories to not turn up in person and do the deal as it were.. Mal.
  11. Great stuff...
  12. Old mate of mine from Brum used to run the Lazerdrome at Shelleys... great venue, good write up linked below on Martin Red.. https://www.fantazia....s/martinred.htm Obviously this is not Soul, no where near it, but one record that epitimises those early nights was Meat Beat Manifesto - Radio Babylon, probably not to all your tastes but this record literally rocked that venue pretty much more than anywhere I've ever been, Absolute Awesome record!! Mal.C.
  13. any chance we could hear a clip? mal
  14. cool, I like how it offers you to buy them as well... greedy i-tunes Mal
  15. Not satisfied with the platters I gave you at Cleethorpes Mike.. i know what you mean, sold mine, and now I want it back... M
  16. really? shows how much I know....
  17. £80 - £100?? I don't think many LP's really go over that mark, maybe 1916 bad ass band, Rhythm machine, things like that do.. M
  18. yeah that's what i tell my self Toad........ worst example for me other than the bloody Colt 45's I always mention. I bought a black issue of Tony Galla at the Brighton record fair in the 9ts for £20, guy said he was sick of Northern, and promptly sold it for £50.............
  19. This is really sad news. That image of Kell on the beach will live on though, was a classic 45 and picture cover.. I've not read the linked interviews but did Kell ever mention which of his songs was his favorite? Mal.C.
  20. in the eighties, Second City Sounds, next to the old mod cafe in Brum was good, regular nighter sounds came and went, but he would put things like Roy Hamilton - Earthquake, Carlena Weaver, etc etc in the £2 box, As I was student and had buggar all cash i bought loads, how much do they pay for these now??? Other good shops in Brum were the Diskery and Reddingtons of course, under the subway before they moved behind Debenhams, me and a mate John Coddington used to go through it every week, always new 45's to be had...then we would travel to a record fair in town and get stuff of Mick Smith. I collected allot of house in the 8ts up until 92, and the place to buy that early on was Don Christies, which was always an experience for a white kid, proper record shop where they would play that weekend's new releases, and you knodded when you liked it and they flung it on your pile...Don was known for reggae and was the place for the Black community in brum. The flea market was always good, amount of northern I turned down cause I did not know it...DOH Mal.C.
  21. I saw this a week ago, glad I did not put something on it. m
  22. ahh, this did make my ears prick up, whats the background on this 45, British thing right ady? Mal.c
  23. I did all this comparison lark when I bought mine, both cuts are the 100% same....as Dave says just the two labels are different. Mal.C.
  24. I know Mike at golden gate quite well, he's a good guy..and his 45's are always fabulous condition...
