Thats a mean hit Kev! I got a load of stuff out of Neptoon on the day I visited, unopened 25 count boxes of Motown titles, loads of Canadian only tracks, stuff like Sy Risby/Chuck Flintroy, they were all cheap, under $10/5 bucks. One place I though was crap initially was Calgary but I did find one shop where I had the same sort of experience as yourself, found loads of good stuff, and the lady at the counter didnt know how much to charge, she was sitting in for the owner, so I agreed $3 each, I think there 60 records in total... I also made a sharp exit! laughing

When I walked in there, I had to walk past three tasty looking dudes who had a soundsystem in the boot of their car, the boot was open and they were drapped all over it, so he comes outs out and shots F*** off you lot, customers! I felt a right drip with my little box and harrington jacket... and your right, he had buggar all that day as well Paul ! I have posted these pictures before, but the bottom level of Neptoon Records in Toronto was an eye opener! Sure you can look, just watch out for the 'GIMP'!

Might be a bit late, but we just finished Yellowstone on Netflix. well series 1-5, ep 8, there are two they don’t have on Netflix, which was a bit crap. Really well written Characters, well worth a binge watch if you haven’t seen it.

I think the link here maybe a guy called Ellis Taylor, he owned Forte, wrote, and Produced Martha, and the Discogs link here states they were married, hense her name 'Taylor' on the Forte 45, I think his work might have influenced others at Excello, where he worked in the early 7ts, so no accident the 'sound' on Shirley Brown is very near. https://www.discogs.com/artist/1740838-Ellis-Taylor-2 They also sang together, him being the 'Gripey' husband, think he may have been saying somethibg there? laughing
-
This sounds very close to 'Shirley Brown - Even If The Signs Are Wrong' which was an unreleased Excello track that Kent put on their brill CD 'Uptown Down South', I wonder if they swapped it about a bit, the melody and tempo are very very simular.
-
Hi folks, need a nice copy of this track, allot are in bad shape as far I can see. Shirley & Her Squires - Drip Drop / Constellation Anybody got a nice one? Best Malc

Thats a shame john, I could do with those... Malc -
I love 'Don't Let Our Love Fade Away' on Excello, and her 'This is my Quest' on T-Neck is especially good deepie, written and produced by Floyd Smith, and Lennie Satin no less.

Artists recording for MANY different labels
Mal C replied to Djmelismo's topic in All About the SOUL
Maybe not in the same league as Lukie D, but Syl Johnson flipped about from local to major labels an awful lot. -

Wierd, It wasnt showing when I checked... I know we are not supposed to post 'we got that for...' but Tony Galla, Black Issue, £20 quid from a chap at the Brighton record Fair, in I guess 2006/7. Surprising, only in that Ian Clark and Mick Smith both had their tables in spitting distance from this chap, he was an Indie guy, with boxes of 12 inch Lp's, and a very small box of 7s, but he managed to not sell it at that price until I looked through his box in afternoon... I take that as a feather in my hat given those two are hardened dealers!

Bought a cheap £2 record off Richard Domar in the record bar, 'Boss Lovin' on Smash I think, walked down the few steps into the main ball room at the Old Vic in Wolverhampton, grabbed a vol-au-vent off the Buffet, we threw a few of those about as well.. lol, looked left, looked right slipped onto the dance floor, and just joined in, think it was Precisions 'If this isnt love' that was playing, great record to start off with...

You know what I'd do, I'd go on You Tube, as lots of low rider collectors post on there, contact a few via message, see what they say. There asre quite a few folks in California, I knew a few guys all into Skate Boarding collected all sorts to be honest, Garage as well, as belive it or not, there is more of that stuff than there is soul, by a country mile... Try contacting folk via Instagam as well, loads of guys post their tracks and related pics on there... Good Luck Gogger
