  2. A Real shame, RIP Marlena Shaw. One of my favorites is 'I'm Back for More', the below clip has the wrong Lp art, as it was released her Columbia LP 'Acting Up'. Also done by Leo's Sunship (Lyons), Al Johnson (Columbia) and Bobby Womack & Lulu (Dome). Although Marlena's is my favorite one... that intro!!
  3. anybody got a nice copy of this one? Shirley & The Squires - Drip Drop / Constellation Records I've seen Craig Moerer's one online.. Malc

  5. I know a track by Basic Black & Pearl, thats on Wam and later on Polydor, very nice 45 that is... all I can see in my minds eye is that Black Pearl Label, you know the one on The 'Touch Me, Hold Me'... funny how the mind throws back pictures, given our propensity to know a track, simply by looking at the label... !! Here is one which you all know of course, and is very hard on Demo, never got issued, Colin Curtis spin, I think... this acetate has the long version on it and was cut at NY Frankford Wayne, as apposed to Philly plant / location.
  6. and this crossover collectable, sounds earlier, but says 81 on the label also La'fez - No Matter, on MJW
  7. Here is a brilliant one, only on the Gordy issue, not the demo
  8. yeah the Yvonne & violets-cross my heart, is a bit much really in comparison... fair to say, the prices on some tracks on there are all over the place, and that's because they are simply not Auction items...
  9. Hi folks, I missed this when it was released last year, anybody got a nice one? Malc
  10. "You Don't need to be listed in the yellow pages! to be gifted" 'God Gifted' by Californa Flight Project...
  11. Hey Steve, hope you are well. I'm referring to collectors, not soul nights, I don't go to events any longer. I could not tell you anything about any 'Scene' today. But John Manship had a copy on Auction a while back, maybe a 8-9 months ago, something like that, about the same time I read that 'The Numbers - Got To Pull Away' was getting spins, and I know that as it 'We The People' was new to quite a few, me included, it made a stir... lot of folks after it, any copies on Discogs etc, they all sold pretty immediately.. I still need a copy
  12. Don't want to shoulder in too much, but what do folks think of this one? early 7ts track, its goes for money, and is I guess a rare one... think the writer had a bag of marbles in his pocket when he wrote it...
  13. Hi folks, Nice selection of crossover & 7ts 45's below, ----- The Drivers Ft Chuck Freeman – Blackbird in Despair / American Int Records (Demo) EX+ Great vocal from Chuck Freeman, this is a nice midtempo crossover sound, Richard Domar used to list this allot. Mixed Emotions - Am I Imposing / Rock Way EX+ Unreleased track from 75, until early 2000’s came straight from Elijah Cole when he was selling them online. Benny Johnson - Visions Of Paradise/ Today EX++ Slick 7ts swayer, not rare, unlike the LP, but absolute class Floyd Henry – Believe in Me / KAS-MO EX+ Really early Gamble / Huff song, this is the business, that opening! Tyrone Ashley - Love Sweet Love / Phil-LA-Soul EX+ Haunting slowie from Sammy Campbell (aka Tyrone), quality record The Fabulous Jades - Come On and Live / RIKA (7ts Second release) EX++ Flip of this is a great Girlie Northern sound, two classic sides. Gloria Barnes - She Wants a Stand In / You Don’t Mean It / Sun-Cut EX++ From the maple Lp, only way to get ‘Stand in’ on 7 Inch. Willie West & The High Society Bros - She's So Wise / TIMMION EX++ Sheer Class, Crossover 45 of the highest order… Flip ‘Cold In the Strom’ is a very nice slowie. Patti York - He's Comin' In The Morning / United Artists EX++ Classic from 1971, written by Jimmy Briggs, Produced by Larry Maxwell, same dude as Daddy Maxwell on UA. The Gents - Love's Such a Beautiful Thing / Paramount Demo EX+ Another classic 7ts mover, Love this track…. The Impressions - Love Me / Curtom EX++ Nice copy, brilliant record either version! (45/Lp) Ray Alexander Techniques - Let's Talk / LU JON EX++ smol Very cool 45, from his Lp, this is a nice clean copy The Johnny Otis Show - Hey Boy! I Want Ya'/ Jazz World Records EX++ Vocals from Barbara Morrison, brilliant west coast mover with a jazzy influence... Gene Washington & The Ironsides - Got To Get Through To You / Colemine EX++ Early Colemine release, and a killer midtempo crossover sound, nice 45 play & Label. The Esquires - Listen To Me / Capitol Demo EX+ Worth every penny, brilliant latin beat to this 7ts stepper, Bill Sheppard production. cheers Malc ------ Postage: £4.50 for 1st Class signed for (Within the UK) Anything worth over a £50 via Special Delivery, £8.50 (Insured up to £750) within the UK. * If you are outside the UK, just tell me where and I'll quote you via PM.
  14. The truth is, there are loads of these 45s out there, they sound real nice when you first hear them, for the most part, they are rare, but ultimately, uninspiring... that 'Exit' Ive posted above, kinda the same really? Movin on, there was another 45 that got action not that long ago, The Numbers - Got To Pull Away on Rolashed, semi rare 45, but my god it's a good one. I've gone lolly about this reciently...rare on the Noodle label 45. This cover they used isnt wrong, but it's spelt 'The Tropics' on the 45...
  15. We The People - Ain't No Way / Magnetic South Records, made big waves quite recently, and it's brilliant!! right up my street, anybody got one for sale? still dont have a copy.... Oaxaca - Stop Your Crying, is very nice, on MARIPOSA Records, Ms. Victoria Barnes - Never Too Late, Morris - Can we melt the Ice, and Mojoba - I Know, all classics that dont turn up much.. This is a good one for this thread...no idea if they are the same bunch as the 'Detroit Leaning' on IPS, I posted earlier, don't sound like it.. there is another grouop called 'Exit' on JAY Records, with 'Life is what you make it again', again dont sound the same, but they maybe.. anybody know?
  16. Checked out the first episode of 'Bones' last night via Netflix, Hhhmmmm... I like this story, it could unfold to be very interesting, but their sets, share, for the most part, the same location in Whitechappel (1941 and 1890) are unconvinsing. Period drama, in my opinion always falls down on sets / costume, some better, allot worse than others, very few convince me we are in the year the story is speaking about. Gripe over, I'll hang onto episode two tonight, see where it leads me...
  17. apologies, updated with correct images ;-0)
  18. Hi folks, few nice Impressions Mini EP's. Malcolm ------ Major Lance - Hey Little Girl / Okeh swol EX++ The Impressions - EP - ABCS 450 EX++ Side 1 Gypsy Woman Grow Closer Together Little Young Lover Side 2 Minstrel and Queen I Need Your Love I'm the One who Loves You The Impressions - Ridin High EP - ABCS 545 / Pic Sleeve EX++ (Has owner sticker on flip, the 45 has a stamp of the first owners name, see scan, tastefully done). Side 1 Ridin High No One Else I Need a Love Side 2 Too Slow That's What Mama Say _____ I prefer PayPal either Friends & Family or pay for the Pay Pal - 4% fee. Postage: £4.50 for 1st Class signed for (Within the UK) Anything worth over a £50 via Special Delivery, £8.50 (Insured up to £750) within the UK. * If you are outside the UK, just tell me where and I'll quote you via PM.
  19. Wow, really... it doent strike me as a Wigan spin, but then I was told Russ was also responsible for The Blues Busters - Love is the Answer, amongst others of course, which gets big thumbs up from me...
  20. few more that are worthy...The Rainy Tucker, I think a copy sold not all that long ago, might have been Tim Brown, again! Detroit Leanin is a good one, 'World' - you go the power, from 83 I think, I should also mention that Reggie 'S' LP, on Shasa Records, killer Lp, loads of tracks on there... but 'Baby I Love You' is the play track... anybody know Vann & Reggie - I'm Falling In Love?
  21. He's covered a few good tracks Hugh Boyton, he also did a pretty good version of 'If Loving you is Wrong I Don't Want to be Right' unfortunatly for him, Millie Jackson simply can't be BEAT!! which leaves Luther Ingram second in my book, even if he had the hit...!! sticking with the title, different track, I can see this has been done by loads of Arrtists via my I-Tunes, must be different songs but, Ron Patterson, Oscar Perry, Roger Hatcher, Irene Reid, Don Gardner, Sandra Wright... clever title...
  22. I take your point about the 'what's Modern' Derek, if it's new, it's not likely to have a massive, as allot above have, price tag... which is refreshing.... Willie Feaster, very good call! same guy as Willie & The Mighty Magnificents, kinda reminds me of Soul Chargers 'Every Beat of my Heart' in allot of ways..... Richard Lackey - The Greatest Gift, on Solid Foundation, Seville - Show Me the Way think came out twice, KAYO and a weird Coke promo thing? something like that.... The brilliant 'Benita - Time for A Change' originally on Fine-Tuned Records, a very big Ashford & Simpson production style track that only made it on Promo... and later via the 'Good Fryer' in Edinburgh of course..
  23. Me too, it's a killer track we should, well I should, throw in a absolute cheapie, that is musically as good, if not above any in this thread... gotta be the best fiver you could ever spend... love the sax / guitar break..
  24. But that (Daybreak) does turn up doesnt it quite allot, I had the boot which I could never play cause I knew it wasnt real!! just didnt feel good, sad init, but great track... There are literally loads of 1980/81/82 releases that fit the bill, think its a very good time period to collect... Free Spirit & Cal Brandon - No Finance No Romance, is very nice on 'Greeens' label, Pure Essence - Wake Up on 'Mantra' is a great mid tempo item from late 7ts. Liquid Blue - Ain't That What You Want on HDM is very nice, from 77, and it's hard to get! SOUL MIND & BODY - I Took Your Love, on Rocktown gets em going, from 1983... Sherry Richard - Don't Get Caught on 'Sherry Richard' arranged by Willie Tee no less, slightly thin vocals, but a great groove... Tim & Dave - Girl, You're Just Too Good For Me on JACAS is a blinder of a crossover record, only ever seen the one for sale, Tim Brown sold that some years back, and he also sold Sammy Lee - What Goes Around on PROMCO, right in the same ball park as Tim & Dave.. I have mentioned Solar Plex - Why Did You Walk Away a few times on here, nobody seemed interested, my ears tell me YES! If you love this stuff, Yann V is all over it isnt he, with his Epsilon label, loads of goodness coming out of E17...
  25. This is a good one, Curtis Anderson on Brown Bag, which turns up very infrequently, that said its (one copy) is on Discogs on silly money just now. Another I was told was limited copies was 'George Soule - Cross My Heart' that said I know where I could find two copies of this brilliant record this arvo... The Side Effect LP on Gas from 73, is another, features of course 'Spend it on Our Love'. That Mind & Matter 45, I can’t sand it, puffed up disco record... I get the groove, but not for me. Cornel Gunter's 'Love In My Heart' has proved to be one that turns up very infrequently, that said there was a chap on here a few years who could not shift his copy, think he had it at about £350... personally I love it… that could have been Benji? one of the German guys... I'll think up some more.... Malc
