thats Soul Inc is dam hard to follow... Remember having just bought Rotations - Dime on D9 at the 100 club, took it out the sleeve, and it flew out of my hand, rolled about 3/4 feet from me, then in a circle till it came to a stop.. the frightening thing was there were people everywhere, I thought it was going to get stamped on, luckily I picked it up sharpish, and no harm came to it.. Phew....!! Mal

nightclub, furniture shop and crèche! laughs... that is brilliant. I really like this club... music is great of course, Frank Wilson was a bit too obvious for my taste, but hey music is good medicine when and where ever its played... I dont really understand the negative comments in this thread, but each to their own, if I'm in town Maryam I'll drop you a line and come on over! mal

FLOYD HENLEY Believe in me KAS-MO Ex £12 Love this 45, real quality tune, just one question, yours is red, normally see yellow ones with a slightly different cat / release number, (Kas-Mo 1001) Yellow / Pink (22 001) , pink has Amy/Bell dist, so would the yellow be first, and pink simply a distributed run by Amy Bell? i know you may not really care about this detail rob, but it matter to me... Our paths must have met then, we were always there sat morning on the circuit of record shops in town.......Don was a massive name in music in Birmingham wasn't he? strangely there were all sorts of stories about Don, I never saw him outside of the counter, I mean him behind it, me in front, but somebody told me he had half a leg or something? dunno bout that story, never confirmed by me as I only ever saw him from waist up o to speak..... though it might have had some truth., he was shot supposedly..... the place went down hill when he sold it, and we all started buying records of a very young Lee Fisher, not the northern soul geezer of the same name, this guy made a name for himself in the House scene, and released a track that went top 40.. owned a shop in Digbeth, then behind the Law Courts.. one of the Kings Standing lot... phew, memories.. mal actually I did get into the basement, after Don sold the shop, there was a ton of Italian Imports, had some nice stuff from in there, there was allot of crap as well..

Monique - Gold copies against the orange / white ones
Mal C replied to Mal C's topic in Look At Your Box
thats good to know, I have her other releases but never got this one, obviously this is from a certain auction going on on-line at the moment, which i was sure was the real deal, but as I've said, id always seen the gold one for years, then a orange/white in the mid 9ts... just out of interest Robb, who do you think Monique really is? Mal -
I wonder, Monique - if you Love me, when I first personally discovered this 45 it was always on Gold copies, then in the mid nineties Orange / white ones started to appear, was that always the case? mal

from what fair isle does this 45 fathom from?

Anybody remember Ravin Maze? basically Joey Negro, anyhow the chart release was crap, this is the version to get, drivin beats! Id imagine this is the sort of thing you will find allot of in that haul...

I collected, and still collect house, I bet there are some killers in that lot, if you go back all the British stuff that came out alone from 87-93, all the Italian Imports that came over, and we haven't got round to the yank stuff yet! I bet Jason at Hard to Find Records is kicking himself! Here's a track that takes me right there, remember asking for the 'Mars Bar' record at Don Christie's in Birmingham.. the great thing was he knew what I meant! Laughs..

Always had a fascination with Brunswick records, as I'm sure we all do. Just re reading Robert Pruter's bible 'Chicago soul' again, and it struck me that all the Brunswick 45's I love and buy seem to have come a certain period when Carl Davis was at the company and they created their own sound. According to Pruters book, once he had left the company taking with him many of the key arrangers / musicians the company's production line if you will kind of ground to a halt, and they heavily bought acts and artists songs to release. I keep coming across 45's that are so so, some are pretty bad in fact, and unless they are actually earlier releases than the Golden 'Soul ' period, I assume they fall under that category of being bought after Davis left the company... My question is this, whats the best of that period? Malcolm
