  1. In for a penny, alas not farthing, in for a pound. The interesting thing for me is the differentiation between what I see myself as, a Soul Music fan and a Soul collector, which the majority here are. I have therefore been happy to get hold of a vast number of tunes on CD and even some on download, which I would never have purchased on vinyl, due to the price. I have therefore always been amazed at what some will pay for records, I think my highest was £100 a while back. Especially when I think that whoever discovered the sound presumably paid a very small price. At that point I understand that DJs might pay over the odds, but I can't believe all of those currently paying high prices are DJs. I therefore always ask myself how many other great records, they don't own, in whatever format could they have purchased instead. And how often they would sit at home and play them? Thus are they in it for the rarity or the music? I always feel for most other areas silly prices, though probably not silly really, are paid as an investment or due to wanting to be ahead of the Joneses. p.s Not having a go at anyone and as Faith Hope and Charity said "To Each His Own" - (cheap as chips)
  2. Many thanks for loading Chalky. Some very nice sounds here, faves Counts, Freedom Affair, Special Delivery, Betty Swann and Lee Hurst. Neil
  3. A Change is Gonna Come - So many versions of a true soul masterpiece but think I agree Sam's is the best.
  4. Hard to pick out one, as there are many from across the decades/styles, but I often end up playing Walter Jackson - Its An Uphill Climb To The Bottom no matter what else has been played that evening.
  5. Why I don't disagree the way prices have generally risen shows there is one big circus tent out there somewhere.
  6. Not in my back garden its like a grey squirrels all-dayer!!!!
  7. Even better then
  8. Looks like you had a good time in Pembrokeshire Steve.
  9. Another cracker with Chalky's 7 hitting the right spots.
  10. Currently listening to random plays, completely across the board, on new phone having downloaded everything from PC often haven't been played for ages. One from today 'Seeing Is Believing' L V Johnson
  11. It's sad but this thread makes me happy I haven't been anywhere for eons. No problems re drinking and driving and the house DJ is a top lad (though the Mrs requests fall on death ears!!)
  12. It has never gone away, or been anywhere near it. So greater crowds, closer together means it is going to happen, The fact that the delta varient spreads easier but is less severe for the majority is a bit of a double edged sword as individuals carrying more likely to mix without being aware they have it. Time will tell whether we can live a normal(ish) life throughout the autumn/winter. Although I stopped going to do's eons ago I have been to test match/races and can't say I have been concerned, though I'm aware that I have put myself at slight risk. Not sure I would feel the same inside a sweaty, busy club. I am happy with the proposed move to show double vacced at busy events.
  13. Nope, not changing the habit of the last 19 years.
  14. I feel the need for a Peru and Chile road trip to sell the message.
  15. There was a young lady in Singapore on the Mixcloud thread.
  16. First of all many thanks to Simon for putting up the playlists at the weekend. As per normal I crashed out between 12:00 and 13:00 but I now have sets I can create whenever I fancy a singular BVAN reunion. I would then thank Simon again for the idea that spawned this phenomenon. Then fellow Aldershotonian Pete C for pointing me in the direction of BVAN. Lastly but not least everyone who has played such a diverse selection of aural delights, a large number of which were new to me and blew me away. Luckily my bank balance isn't suffering as much as some as I have still succumbe and added to my collection, probably a good idea as there would be one massive wants list, though as has been said many of these would be cheap as chips. Finally a massive thanks to my fellow request selectors and radioking banterers who have helped to give the nights a true sense of shared knowledge, passion, fun, wit (queue Len) and sense of togetherness. I love Simon's idea of an online anniversary, date already in the diary. Although I am unlikely to be there, due to distance, I would like to wish you a cracking first night when you do open up again and suggest a fans warm up session/guest slot. P.s Simon/Chalky/Len if the walk is for charity can you post a link for donations. Keep it Soulful and Take It Easy Neil
  17. Many thanks for helping to keep me sane and introducing me to so many stand out tracks, from across the board. I look forward to a celebratory chat session on RadioKing. Stay safe and keep it soulful. Neil
  18. Hi Chris, Excellent as always. Loved DeRobert & The Half-Truths, completely new to me. Many thanks Neil
  19. Nowhere to Run is a cracking read.
  20. That is one impressive legacy of music he has had a part in. RIP
  21. An interesting watch, of something I was never ever part of. Early 80's massively into Jazz Funk and plenty of acts live in the South..
  22. On a similar line to Ed, i'll go with Shirley Wahls for the voice and Kenny Smith for the memories.
  23. Never stopped playing the LP, pure class.
  24. Hi Chris, Just listened to the show having returned from Cornwall. I'm pleased to hear the selections went down well. I even enjoyed Sweet Sensation, hadn't heard it in eons, at the time it was released one of my good friends sister and her friends were their groupies!!
  25. Epitome Of Sound - top 500, overplayed etc etc. Still love it to bits, for me a NS masterpiece which should always fill a dancefloor, even if it is just the kitchen at the moment!!
